Wondered if hand holding for Sept newbies would be nice?

Just that really. Like an antenatal thread but for parents of children starting primary in Sept.

We have our taster afternoon in a couple of weeks - it all feels so alien. Haven't felt this out of it since I bought my 1st pack of nappies and got the giggles at the checkout!

aranea... i think if i do that ds1 will be reading sooner than dd as he's fascinated by letters and reading. I also have a 6 month old, if i have time to do homework with her we'll be flying, never mind extra reading!

We bought school shoes and PE runners yesterday so dd is delighted with herself and i'm as the runners were reduced from 50euros to 19.99!

I have a ridiculous amount of uniform stuff as dd is so rough on clothes i don't want to be stuck at xmas with her having ripped her last pinafore and not be able to buy one for love nor money!

she has:
2 pinafores
2 skirts
1 pants (unlikely to be worn as she hates pants but cold winter days might change her mind)
1 cardigan
3 long sleeves shirts and 3 short sleeves (dd has a reputation as the messy kid when they do art so rather than have to send her in stained shirts i bought extra)
2 PE pants (got one but it wasn't the style i like, too thick and awkward and found nice ones on friday)
1 PE jumper
5 polo shirts
lots of tights and socks

think she's got enough?

PinkTulips · 16/08/2009 12:00

tree, where did you find kids over the knee socks? I'm desperately searching for some for dd but can't find any

treedelivery · 16/08/2009 13:43

Hello!

Got then in M&S which I was really surprised at. They are navy though I didn't see other colours.

You should be on thread with Tink and me - Jan 09?

Also have crazy amount of uniform. But ended up with some for free! M&S were a total pig about returning some blouses that were wrong size [tried to repay £4 instead of £20] and so they refunded and let me keep them! Hurrah.

They are too small though, so will try sell or echange them

4 organic cotton age 3 blouses anyone? Never worn!

Still no labels sewn on.

God it's not that long now is it, and dd doesn't start till 15th. I'll feel a bit left out when yours all start

Don't forget to come and hold my hand 2 weeks in

Next have overknee socks but only black or grey here

Got a bit excited at this page I can't believe this is relevant to me.

It's not 2 seconds since we were looking at cots.

feb 09 thread

It's navy i need so might have to think of an excuse to drive the 1.5 hours to my closest m&s.

Know what you mean about it being a bit surreal, i'm losing both my babies at the same time, dd to school, ds1 to playschool, yet in my head they're still teeny ickle newborns

tinkistheresidentshopper · 16/08/2009 19:41

yes please tree would definetly be interested in blouses

smeaky · 17/08/2009 09:00

Hooray for M&S, managed to get hopefully all I need this weekend. 2 x pinafores, 4 x shirts, socks, plimsolls and vests. The rest coming from school uniform shop, at some unspecified point.

One more probably silly question from me then I can relax. Do the little ones bring bags with them to school? I'm thinking they probably don't?

xx

tinkistheresidentshopper · 17/08/2009 09:33

our school just has a book bag

PinkTulips · 17/08/2009 11:04

Ours do due to the huge amount of schoolbooks obviously, the teacher also asked us to send seperate lunchbags as the kids get a bit hysterical if drink spills in their schoolbag.

Checked with my friend yesterday and no-one in the village knows what day the school is starting back, we're all supposed to be good catholic mummies at church on sundays to hear the announcement

tinkistheresidentshopper · 17/08/2009 13:04

dd1 will have book bag for work etc
lucnch bag and flask and pe bag. teacher is dead against rucksacks - says too big etc

Aranea - I am planning on hearing ds1 read not long after he comes in from school when ds 2 is playing on his own ( this is my fantasy land!!) He cant read yet of course, but his school sent home books to 'read together' after his taster sessions so Im sure they will continue with that, and I will start with that to get into a routine. As a teacher Ive spent all my working life telling parents how important it is to hear their children read every day and now Ive got to do it myself!! I can hear my words coming back to haunt me.

PinkTulips · 17/08/2009 14:39

startrite frenzi black

they have a pink flower on the back and a big pink flower on the sole.... not to mention they were the only ones in her size that fit her right

And we got her these trainers for PE.

tinkistheresidentshopper · 17/08/2009 16:35

had same problem pt with shoes see top post. brown was all we could get. tried on 4 pairs of brown shoes dd1 liked the ones we got best.
will be getting her boots in a month for winter so if her feet do grow i can easily exchange would order into shop the ones we got in 6.5f just incase and will prob order in 2 pairs of boots 2. collect in store service is great
dd1 only a 6f. they only had one pair of actual school shoes in her size didnt fit width ways properley!! typical.
her school states dark shoes so brown will be fine.
luv the sketchers very cool

re - reading dd1 can alreay read some words in books cant wait to read with her

treedelivery · 17/08/2009 16:44

these are our shoes, only last season's patent. I love shiny shoes . We got them on holiday for a bargain price so hope to goodness they fit as there is no where within 60 miles that sells anything but Clarks. And Clarks don't fit!!

HushPuppy can make a C/D fitting by putting 2 foot beds together, so thats good for my skinny footed one. All the Clarks were too wide or too long or too 'flat' I have same trouble there, girls have inherited my high instep. Lucky them. Great if you want to do ballet, not so great if you want a pair of shoes form the one shoe shop in our town!!

Book bag here too. I bought the school one, and their PE bag. But I really want a personalised PE bag that I will make [in all that spare time I have] from cutesy fabric and with her name appliqued on

OP posts:
Acinonyx · 17/08/2009 17:39

School bookbag here, lunch bag (probably a rucksack) and a school PE bag. I also have a fantasy about personalising her PE bag after I've sewn on all those labels... (better get on with it!).

Off to get shoes this week.

sooey76 · 17/08/2009 18:13

Reading this takes me back...... My eldest is 12 so some years since his first day. Child no 4 is starting in september, he'll be 5 just after he starts, so eldest in class. Our school only has one start now, so some kids who have only just turned 4 are going full time. I bought him 5 polos trousers and jumpers as when they first start, when they get home they will be knackered, and it's not worth the fight getting them changed, plus he'll have spilt dinner, paint mud etc all over him anyway. My only concern is that he's been home since May as he broke his leg and missed the final 1/2 term at nursery, and suddenly he's in at the deep end, at school all day-they'll probably find him asleep in a corner! Oh and slightly concerned about playtimes as he can't run or jump - I wish they'd try telling him that!!

Ixia · 17/08/2009 21:37

Hello I've been lurking on this thread for a while, thought I'd better jump in, before d-day. My PFB starts in Sept, she is only just 4

I'm not organised, have all her stuff to label. Desperatley searching for a cotton pinafore and I've got her skirts to alter...not much then

For the narrow feet children- I bought the Clarks shoes in the link below. DD is an E, but had to go up to a G in these shoes as they were cut so narrow. So the E fitting one must actually be a D or narrower.

I also harboured dreams of a Kidston-esque PE bag. But cheated and got a handmade bag from Ebay instead . This seller, although she hasn't got a PE bag listed at the moment.

Aranea · 18/08/2009 10:33

missmapp - I really hope I can convince dd2 to play by herself when dd1 comes home! She's 10m at the mo though, so I don't know how that'll go down. Currently all efforts to sit down with dd1 and a book while dd2 is awake result in a rather soggy half-eaten book.

It's tricky as I really enjoy reading with her and she is doing well I think, but I don't know how we'll manage when we can't do it during naptimes! Oh well, maybe I'll discover the perfect toy for dd2 to keep her entertained for long enough?

Poor little sooey's ds! That sounds rotten for him.

I haven't bought bags or shoes or anything, as I haven't been told that we need anything at all! I keep asking other mothers if they know more than I do, but nobody seems to. So I hope we don't suddenly have to do mad shopping on week 1 of school!

Aranea · 18/08/2009 10:33

Welcome Ixia!

4 weeks today before the big beginning!

Hello Ixia - will check out the bag [smie]

two and a half weeks to go here It feels as though it's rushing at us all of a sudden. Feel a bit sad about it.

moodlumthehoodlum · 18/08/2009 22:21

Not long to go now, and I'm having one of those late night wobbles about him going to school, and fretting over whether I've chosen the right school for him (ie not with dd).

Aranea · 18/08/2009 22:55

Why is he going to a different school, moodlum?
