Wondered if hand holding for Sept newbies would be nice?

Just that really. Like an antenatal thread but for parents of children starting primary in Sept.

We have our taster afternoon in a couple of weeks - it all feels so alien. Haven't felt this out of it since I bought my 1st pack of nappies and got the giggles at the checkout!

hi tinkisback!
How do you feel about her being the youngest? Do you think she's ready?

tinkisback · 04/08/2009 17:36

not too worried about her being the youngest and she i definetly ready.
she is very bright into everything

PinkTulips · 04/08/2009 18:33

i don't use wraping paper, i just cover them in plastic... the cool sticky back stuff that makes books shiney and child proof

hi tink, my ds1 will be the youngest next year, like our dd i think he'll be more than ready though, tbh he'd be more able for it right now than dd!

simpson · 04/08/2009 19:36

golgi DS only has brightly coloured socks with either a super hero on them or a monster of some kind!!

tinkisback My DS is 4 on 31st August and will be the youngest too.

golgi · 04/08/2009 22:07

Simpson that's why I went to get some black ones - wasn't sure whether "Jedi socks" were part of the dress code.

treedelivery · 05/08/2009 13:58

Ok I give up.

Navy shorts, age 3, for a girl.

Where? Anyone?

M&S just fell straight down.

Have tried Asda yesterday, amde the special trip to York - none there. Next too big. ALl other shops are 1.5 hours away so I have to specially go, I can't just hope to bump into them.

Where did you get yours?????????

Name tapes. Must do name tapes.

golgi · 05/08/2009 14:58

Would anyone notice/care if she had boys shorts? Assuming you could get those in age 3 size.

I got mine in ASDA.

treedelivery · 05/08/2009 15:36

Think we have found some on yourschooluniform.com

Asda only had black yesterday. Boy or girl wouldn't bother me at all. Just size! These ones are an 18" waist so have high hopes. SHe is either a 16 or an 18, she is at nannas so can't measure her just now.

Will order anyway, and see how we go.

Have the Asda plimsoles, I really hope they aren't too wide. It's gettiong silly, my duughter seems far far outside the normal measurements!

hi tree delivery

good luck with shorts

we ordered atlantas through her school she is tiny for her age so my mum will be taking them in.

today ordered her winter coat, white school socks, grey tights and some leggings and tops to change into after school

golgi · 05/08/2009 19:56

It occurs to me he's going to need fewer clothes this winter than last, as he'll be in school uniform five days a week. Must remember this when buying winter stuff....

treedelivery · 05/08/2009 22:41

That occured to me too, when in the Monsoon sale yesterday. Didn't stop me though

AM visiting Goddaughter in Manchester tomorrow. Exciting! Will try not to bring back some piece of uniform!

OP posts:
tinkisback · 06/08/2009 09:21

i have been wondering how many less clothes she will need 2 .
thinking of getting them from boden this year for winter with discount it comes to £300 !!!

only getting :-

3 pairs of trousers
3 dresses
3 tops to go under neath
4 pairs of tites
pack of 2 pjs
4 logo tops
a jumper

Acinonyx · 06/08/2009 10:23

Tops and leggings for after school sounds like a good idea. If they change out of uniform and play outside they'll still need quite a lot of winter clothes.

Just popped into M & S - it was heaving up at the schools section. Got another pinafore and a weatherproof coat. Can't decide whether to get another lightwieght coat as well. Probably will. I always get confused about coats and never seem to have just what we need.

I think maybe a couple more polo shirts and some black shoes when we get back from holiday week after next and we're done.

teafortwo · 06/08/2009 11:48

Yaaaaay - labels sewn in dresses and cardis due to a fab sewing night in with my Mum!!!!!

We are both really crapido at sewing so it was quite a giggle!!!!!

golgi · 06/08/2009 13:49

I'm going to try and enforce changing out of uniform when he gets home - to try to make it last more than a day without needing to be washed!

My local M+S has helpfully sited the schools section right by the escalators, between the old-lady clothes and the shoes, so it's on the main route for old lady traffic. They can't get past because of all the harrassed mothers with hoards of children.

treedelivery · 08/08/2009 10:47

Hello.

Very at those who have done the label sewing.

Am putting the uniform through a wash as we speak,as the weather is good. Not looking forward to ironing those blouses, got 100% cotton as she has skin issues and I'm unsure about manmade on her all day in the central heating, plus the teflon/non-iron etc chemicals and coatings. But then what a pita to iron plain cotton.......

I got the black wool coat, it was the lcosest I could find to the mental image of a school coat I had. From the early thread days! Ahhhh!

Apparently BHS do navy gym shorts Have ordered some online but might try get through to city to see them. Can't face another journey just yet though. No BHS here. Of course.

Read through the stuff from school, and actually there is a fair bit of info in there. It just didn't feel like it before. So feeling a bit calmer, but still worried. Especially about food. I wish I coul dgo for dinner times, even for a week. Justto help her negotiate it all.

hi

tree do i need to wash dd1s uniform

not doing labels here yet

going to get dd1s school schools next sat

bought lunch bag and flask in the week and bought her pe bag today

treedelivery · 08/08/2009 13:59

Hi Tink.

I pre wash all clothes, but only because a) dd has bad skin and is quite sensitive, so I am aware that the pesticides and anti-dirt sprays they use before shipping might not be the best for her, and b) I've seen the storage areas of clothes shops, and the warehouses are filthy and the clothes are fairly exposed to all manner of dust etc. So I do a wash to freshen up and remove the coatings used in manufacture.
However, I have no evidence that the dirt or coatings will do her any harm, or that the wash will actually get rid of the chemicals!

Size 7 Asda plimsoles fit ok! Hurray! She is a 7.5 but never mind . Got the 8 too because they are so hard to find and at £1.50 it just doesn't matter really.

tinkisback · 08/08/2009 18:39

plimsoles are so cheap arent they my dd1 is a 6f has always had tiny feet her plimsoles are velcro ones

golgi · 09/08/2009 21:19

Hello, just marking place again. Have spent the weekend on the beach, September seems like a long time away. However, just realised there are only three weeks left! Better get sewing.....

Aranea · 09/08/2009 22:24

Hello golgi, are you me? Marking my place again, fresh from the beach...

golgi · 10/08/2009 08:58

Hello

Apologies if this has already been covered, but this thread is huge and I'm short on time...

My little girl starts in September. I was under the impression they start the year in the summer uniform. Now I'm having doubts and the school is obviously shut for the summer so can't ask.

Leaving aside the fact I've pretty much left it too late already to buy a new school uniform, can anybody advise what I should buy for now until the school uniform shop opens?!

Thanks

Liz x
