My ds is starting primary this September just found out there will be another child with same name.
I do not want ds to be called his name and then his surname initial!
Any other ideas anyone.
Thanks.

I know, I thought that this first one was borderline acceptable but NOT ANY MORE. Honestly I was crushed but there is nothing that can be done.

savoycabbage · 13/06/2008 19:46

Blandmum · 13/06/2008 19:47

In DD's previous class, there were 4 Georges and 2 Georgias. The teacher only hd to start the G and half the class turned round. That's the trouble with choosing a popular name!

clam · 13/06/2008 19:49

Just wondered what thread you were on.....

Blandmum · 13/06/2008 19:50

at one point ds was one of 3 boys and 1 girl to share his name. Now he is the only one left. we got the others removed [wild cackling emoticon needed]

mydhissocute · 13/06/2008 19:50

Do one of these things

  1. Call him by his first initial (eg J)
  2. Call him by all initials (eg JDS)
  3. Call him by name conjoured from initials (Jaydee etc.)
  4. Call him by middle name only
  5. Call him by surname only
  6. Change name
  7. Invent cool nickname (poss based on one of the gladiators or a wild animal)

There are 6 kids called Hannah in DDs school year - so they are called Hannah 1, Hannah 2, Hannah 3 etc.....

No not really - it is something you just can't avoid but DS isn't at school yet and he always calls himself by his first name and second name and for some reason so does everyone else - it is a phase they will go through anyway and nothing to sweat about.

Simply explaining my ability to be precious.

clam · 13/06/2008 19:52

We had a kid recently whose Christian name was the same as his surname . His mother once came into complain that the teacher was ridiculing him by calling the register with both names (e.g. George George) and could she please just call out George (name change). Had she really not foreseen this down at the registry office???

savoycabbage · 13/06/2008 19:53

I am almost over it now also. Almost....

savoycabbage · 13/06/2008 19:55

I once had a child called Crystal Jewel but she was the only Crystal Jewel in her class.

throckenholt · 13/06/2008 19:56

she maybe didn't but the registry staff must have had a sly grin

Blandmum · 13/06/2008 19:59

A little while ago I taught a Domino, who was the only one in the class,, My best mate's sil once taught a Truly -scrumptious

seeker · 13/06/2008 19:59

Apart from all the Emilys there are also a Taylor Boy and Taylor Girl in ds's class!

What does a thicko cow do, do you think?

clam · 13/06/2008 20:06

Disagree with an OP.

Fillyjonk · 13/06/2008 20:07

see this is the other side to the "what do you think of the name x" threads

choose a name everyone likes, and this is where you end up in 5 years...

hayley2u · 13/06/2008 20:07

i agree my boy has the same name in his class and omes home to say his name and intial . when he was in nursery they used to cakll him this and really pissed me off

eekamoose · 13/06/2008 20:08

I would love to hear about any Mnetter who has a child with an original name. A name that they know no other child with. And what that name is.

8 years ago I got a kitten and named it Presley. Dang me, not more than a few weeks later, I read in press that some supermodel (Cindy Crawford, not sure) had named her son Presley.

Now I know a cat and a baby boy are not the same thing, but, honestly, once those names are out in the stratosphere, someone else somehow gets hold of them.

minorityrules · 13/06/2008 20:10

is the name Ben D?

unknownrebelbang · 13/06/2008 20:11

Mooooooooo.

hotpasty · 13/06/2008 20:11

SavoyCabbage - LOL at Crystal Jewel... I heard a missing child being announced over the tannoy at a local attraction last year. No joking - she was called Crystal Ball!
