My ds is starting primary this September just found out there will be another child with same name.
I do not want ds to be called his name and then his surname initial!
Any other ideas anyone.
Thanks.

Good grief gladbag what a hoot! Do you think they will make representations to their children's future employers or uni mates if they dare to shorten a name or heaven forbid invent a nickname in the years to come!

oh yawn.

I have what was, back in the mists of primary-school time, the most common forename ever PLUS the most common surname ever.

There were three girls in my class with the same forename, one of whom also had a surname beginning with the same letter.

There are ZILLIONS of women with exactly the same complete name as me - several dozen of whom I have met.

We have survived quite nicely, thank you.

A school of porpoises. How lovely.

buntyjajas · 13/06/2008 17:33

I have two friends with the same name and as we are all horsegals we get called after our horses which is hardly flattering! We cope though by and large.

PMSL at MI vanity googling

When I do that I come up with a surgical support......

Earl E?

Both boys can be known by their full names (Mark Smith and Mark Jones, etc.). Would that be okay with OP? That's what would happen at our school (lots of duplicates, with Alex, Jack, Isobel, Amy, Daniel, Thomas, etc.)

I can't think of ideas unless I know his name.

But it's really not a problem having two or more kids with the same name.

littlerach · 13/06/2008 17:40

There are 4 Joshuas in dd1's class, out of 25 children.

Yesa, they are Joshua Lastname, Joshua Lastname etc.

CaptainUnderpants · 13/06/2008 17:46

My eldest has a popular name , last year there were three of 'his' name in his class , so they were all called by their name followed by inital .

The thing that made me really laugh was when he brought home Mothers Day card and signed it with his name and inital !

Now that could really upset the OP

Whats going to happen when the child ( hopefully not) gets called nasty names in the playground !

buntyjajas · 13/06/2008 17:47

CaptainUnderpants that's exactly what mine does, I think it's quite sweet!

DarthVader · 13/06/2008 17:49

you could ask them to use ds surname eg Johnson like in old fashioned public school days?

EffiePerine · 13/06/2008 17:51

Johnson major and minor, surely?

pointydog · 13/06/2008 17:51

Wait till you hear what other parents call him. I call two friends of dd2's silly names - Davster and Doigster, based on their surname.

CaptainUnderpants · 13/06/2008 17:51

Just say 'Oy you , you in the blue sweatshirt ' ops they will all be wearing blue sweatshirts etc if uniform school.

the child will have no identity !

lucykate · 13/06/2008 17:52

in dd's nursery, there were 4 including her with the same name, they had to use their surname initial, there was A, I, G, and R.

for years dd signed cards as A, but i always thought it was rather sweet, can't understand why it would be an issue.

CaptainUnderpants · 13/06/2008 17:54

I sometimes call my son affectionately his name and inital.

He just grins and goes all coy .

Doodle2U · 13/06/2008 17:56

Mark U?

Doodle2U · 13/06/2008 17:56

Dan D?

Doodle2U · 13/06/2008 17:57

Larry L? (Because he's worth it)

ComeOVeneer · 13/06/2008 17:59

Was going to put that at dd's school they are called their first and middle name, ir there is a second one eg she has a Katy and a Katy Mae". But I am sure due to the length of this read it has gone on to discuss other things, but can't be bothered to read it all

tortoiseSHELL · 13/06/2008 18:00

At our school there were two girls with the same name and surname, so one of them used her middle initials to differentiate. It happens!

TheFallenMadonna · 13/06/2008 18:00

LOL at this.

DD's friend has the same name as her, and both families use the same diminutive (which is one of many for the name - typical!).

Everyone, including themselves, calls then firstname lastname. They are not bothered in the least.

And the other mother and I have stopped scowling at each other eventually too
