@Candyfloss2 have a chat with admissions re headphones and that your DS doesn't like them. I've found admissions staff really helpful.

Wishing your DS good luck for the next round 🤞🏽

Candyfloss2 · 14/10/2022 18:22

Just got WUS email iPads. ( doesn’t repair headphone)

happy with iPads in WUS .

And bit surprised who nowadays still use laptop with plug in headphones ? In this 2nd tier school.

Candyfloss2 · 14/10/2022 18:22

Sorry typo.
WUS using iPad doesn’t require plug in headphone

ItsRainingTacos79 · 14/10/2022 19:48

Just sharing what I have from WUS...

7+ WUS and SPJ 2022
Candyfloss2 · 14/10/2022 19:54

We just tried the link. Seems very straight forward.
huge relief that first round is only 20 20 10 10
than kings 45 45 45 ish .

taj0112 · 15/10/2022 08:17

I’m imagining you mean Hampton 7+ which needs headphones? If so let them know - they seem quite approachable but I don’t think it’s unusual now to use headphones as they do some of the tests of computers and questions are read out.

Candyfloss2 · 15/10/2022 08:25

Thank you. Yes.
it is very popular school with English families. I even met a dad who wants to move here from Chiswick for this school.
only thing is it’s lack of diversity than zone 1/2 and even sw19 Schools. So I am bit on the fence as we r mixed heritage family.

Candyfloss2 · 15/10/2022 08:26

But its not the school’s fault.
the whole Richmond is lacking diversity than sw19. we as adults still love here.

Candyfloss2 · 15/10/2022 08:32

Hampton will want reply to offer on 13th jan .
wus first round offer is 12 jan .
Thats only FIRST ROUND.

so even if we got into denmead/ Hamptons prep . We will lose £ deposit if lucky with wus . Or to lose the Hampton prep offer if unlucky with wus .
or end with a Hampton prep offer but not wus . But still need internal exam for assured place for 11+ .
or none of above . Then keep trying for 8+ wus.

I feel like this is alike horse race gamble . Lol .

Candyfloss2 · 15/10/2022 08:41

Actually just checked most schools giving offer just before Xmas break . If we must reply and pay deposit by 20th jan ( before whs offer)
some £3000 will be lost .

Wus is the latest offering date .

taj0112 · 15/10/2022 09:13

I’d just wait and see what offers you get and then make a decision?

ItsRainingTacos79 · 15/10/2022 10:13

@Candyfloss2 sorry, just noticed you mentioned 1st Dec for City assessment. I've got Friday 2nd in my diary for City, based on an email from Admissions (although they did mention they everyone registered will receive correspondence in due course re the date, time, location etc).

Basically the day before SPJ 😭

ItsRainingTacos79 · 15/10/2022 10:20

Also, just wondering what WUS admissions policy re sitting both the 7+ and 8+ is.

When my eldest was sitting we were told that if a child fails the 7+, they cannot sit the 8+ the following year. Or perhaps I misunderstood and it's more to do with having a fresh application and paying the registration fee for the 8+ if the 7+ didn't work out. We were given the option to defer the 7+ until 8+ and from conversation with admissions I was under the impression that you can't sit both.

Is anyone able to shed any light on this before I pester them again? 😬

Candyfloss2 · 15/10/2022 10:32

sorry you are right . 2nd not 1st.
What you mean defer 7+ until 8+

Candyfloss2 · 15/10/2022 10:33

You mean summer born kid can defer 1 year or you mean like do 7 + for 8 + entry?sorry I an confused .
some school 8+ or 9+ is for state school only.

Candyfloss2 · 15/10/2022 10:44

Boys may enter Westminster Under School at ages 7, 8 or 11, and the Great School at age 13. Please note that applicants may only apply for entry at either 11+ or 13+ but not both.

ItsRainingTacos79 · 15/10/2022 10:46

Sorry I didn't mean to confuse you. It wasn't anything to do with summer borns. A couple of years ago my eldest DS was registered for the 7+ but I decided to withdraw my application due to lockdown as DS was out of school for almost a whole academic year and I didn't feel he would have managed.

WUS gave me an option to withdraw entirely or defer my application to the 8+ if I wanted to. This led me to ask the question whether he could sit both to which they replied no. If he were unsuccessful at the 7+, he could not go back and sit their 8+. But I wasn't sure if this was more to do with registration fee or that the school's policy is not to let children resit the following year if they were not successful (I guess if they have all the unsuccessful applicants resitting the following year, they don't have capacity for fresh applicants). So just wondered if anyone knew what the policy was.

Candyfloss2 · 15/10/2022 10:53

If u find out the answer pls let me know
:)

ItsRainingTacos79 · 15/10/2022 11:13

The admissions lady is going to love me 😂

Candyfloss2 · 15/10/2022 11:25

Kings basically says no thank u come again but its not that: you are so close and so special that you have invitation for 8+ . It’s more like : don’t forget to pay by deadline for 8+ .

elij · 15/10/2022 12:28

ItsRainingTacos79 · 15/10/2022 11:13

The admissions lady is going to love me 😂

You get invited for the 8+ process from 7+ if you didn't make the cut but were promising. If you don't perform at 7+ the rejection letter explicitly asks for you to not apply for the 8+.

ItsRainingTacos79 · 15/10/2022 12:38

Thanks @elijz good to know 🙏🏼

Candyfloss2 · 15/10/2022 12:46

Dear Parents

7+ and 8+ WRITTEN ASSESSMENTS

Thank you for bringing …..to the written assessments on Saturday 8 October. We enjoyed meeting him but, unfortunately, we will not be inviting him back to take part in the activity session and interviews. We are sorry to disappoint you in this regard.

If you would like …….to take part in the assessments for possible entry in September 2024, it will be necessary to submit an online registration form and fee, together with all the required documents (including, for those who do not hold a British or Irish passport, proof of visa or settled status). The registration deadline for our next set of entry assessments (2024) is 20 September 2023.

above is kings.

SevenPlusforFY22 · 17/10/2022 10:11

Hello, Would someone know what King's asks the child selected for the activity days? I am struggling to prep my DS for the activity day and Interview.

Any pointers will be much appreciated.

ItsRainingTacos79 · 17/10/2022 10:22

Not aware of King's activity day but DS has one at another school and we're told it will involve a bit of reading and answering questions and working in small groups to complete a task. Very vague but sounds like they want to observe how the child interacts within a classroom setting. Not really sure you can prep for this.
