Just got email today ; extra round of city junior for 7Plus

Candyfloss2 · 24/02/2023 20:19

Whilst we had a record number of applicants this year, after very careful consideration, we did not make as many offers as in previous years. We will be running an additional round of 7+ assessments next month, with six places available for boys.

JHB23 · 24/02/2023 23:23

I also received this email, we didn’t even register to sit the City exam, very strange.

ItsRainingTacos79 · 24/02/2023 23:56

So they're running low on acceptances from boys?

Candyfloss2 · 25/02/2023 05:15

Is this scam just for £250? But I did check their email address seems genuine

Hi @Candyfloss2

were you on the waitlist? Are you able to share more about this extra round pls? Thank you

Candyfloss2 · 25/02/2023 06:01

we didn’t even register .

Candyfloss2 · 25/02/2023 06:02

Now everyone paid deposit . Who would do this ?

Monsoon1 · 25/02/2023 06:48

Yes we also got the email and we hadn’t even registered for the City exam. It’s interesting. I do know a couple of children who were rejected from City at 7+ this year though. So maybe they have just set a level that they don’t want to fall below, and are sticking to that? We’re actually considering it…. We only sat Westminster and made the wait list but didn’t get a place (he’s at a to 13 school that is sweet but not very intellectually challenging for him, and he’s very bright.) So it’s worth considering for us. Don’t know if we’ll go for it or not, or just focus on WUS 8+ next year though…

Stick to your 8+ plans (unless current school is terrible) you can always look at city occasional places applications at the same time this autumn.

taj0112 · 25/02/2023 07:55

How did they get all your email addresses?

Monsoon1 · 25/02/2023 08:13

@taj0112 I signed up for information when it was first announced. But decided not to apply

Monsoon1 · 25/02/2023 08:15

@elij yes we might well do that. But it’s worth considering…

Ah that makes sense! Interesting for 6 places they’ll create new papers etc? Sounds like record number of rejections perhaps.

Candyfloss2 · 25/02/2023 10:11

it is off putting to see they don’t even have enough teachers yet /

5ourgrapes · 25/02/2023 13:13

This approach just doesn’t put them in a good light. Rather than reconsider those on the wait list and those who have made it to the second round, all those applicants who were interested enough to apply and would like to attend there, they are trying to appeal to those who did not even like the school enough to apply. It just stinks of another scummy attempt to make more money.
Their application fee and their deposit is by far one of the highest and they have large class sizes as well.
All the talk about wanting kids with potential and not the full ticket blah blah is just complete nonsense.

Candyfloss2 · 25/02/2023 14:09

Last sep was £160? Now it’s £250

i don’t recall others top 3 schools are nearly as high .

Candyfloss2 · 25/02/2023 14:10

It’s now in discussion in others 7+ topic on mumsnet

Candyfloss2 · 25/02/2023 14:12

I am more concerned about the immediate surrounding than the school itself .

It’s full of civil / criminal solicitors chambers and office and their CLIENTS . ( maybe some clients on bail ?)

kids playing on public ground were those mentioned above people walking passing by daily ? They have a gate at least ?

bstrong0805 · 25/02/2023 19:36

That seems so weird - doing another round of assessment for 6 boys ? We had an offer from City and it was in our top 2 schools but we choose the other one in the end. Quite surprising that they under offered !

Candyfloss2 · 27/02/2023 14:38

This is a joke . I just got Email from city addressing to another parent and her child for registration & payment for this round of 7+ .

Catchme · 27/02/2023 19:04

Hopefully someone has gone back to city to check if these emails really originated from them. Could possibly be a scam?🤔

Tiredmumofthreekids · 27/02/2023 21:04

@Candyfloss2 i think i have spotted a large number of duplicate posts
from you under various 7+ threads (and this thread is not even about City Junior! ) expressing various concerns about the school. and you mentioned here you haven't even applied for the school in the first round of assessments? i get some parents frustrated with the experience/rejections but i cant imagine someone spending their precious time writing various multiple posts about the school they haven't even applied for and not going to apply to? do you have any vested interest in this school/personal experience with them?

Candyfloss2 · 27/02/2023 22:10

And tired mum of 3 has precious time in her life to stalk me at Monday evening 9pm ? And read all my historical posts and summon me to explain myself exclusively for her highness online ? Lol get a life .

Parent2023 · 07/03/2023 10:08

Has anyone joining WUS 7+ received any info about joiners meetings or been receiving the weekly newsletters?
