Hi there,

Just feel it's been very quiet here this year on the 7+ exams and no thread has appeared wrt to those two schools.

Anyone out there also prepping?

We got next stage too

walkinpark · 12/10/2022 14:01

good for all of your DCs..I was not expecting but am quite disappointed anyway
:(

ItsRainingTacos79 · 12/10/2022 14:36

So sorry to hear that @Candyfloss2 and @walkinpark 😔. Fingers crossed for the next lot of assessments.

Do you get any feedback?

Our recent prep work is making me increasing lose hope. DS is being very unpredictable with comprehension. Almost as though he can't be bothered anymore.

User19876 · 12/10/2022 14:41

Best of luck to those going on to the next stage and sorry that some are disappointed today :-(

It’s interesting to hear several posters saying their DS’s left questions blank or didn’t feel they did well but then end up going through to interview. To those who got through King’s today - did you expect it based on what your DS said about how they did? Just wondering what the passing standard must be for these schools. I guess they add questions they don’t expect most of the kids to get, even the ones that are accepted.

walkinpark · 12/10/2022 14:51

I think they look for consistent performance across the papers...so for example...if someone is at 30% for writing and 90% for maths versus 60% for both...so they would prefer the latter profile...am not sure...just speculating...

I am sorry about the results @Candyfloss2 and @walkinpark

My son left 3 questions in comprehension empty. And verbal reasoning around 6-7. So i have no idea how they select the kids. Does anyone know how many are selected for the next stage?
And also what to expect?

SevenPlusforFY22 · 12/10/2022 15:14

My DS told me he attempted almost all the questions except for 1 in maths, 1 in reasoning, and 1 more that he was unable to explain.
TBH us that he did good and was happy with his attempt.

WoodlandWalks123 · 12/10/2022 16:48

So sorry to hear that @walkinpark @Candyfloss2 - onwards and upwards to the next ones! When are your next ones?

@ItsRainingTacos79 i also feel my DS is hugely inconsistent and getting fatigued - just got to keep going and hope for best I think!

walkinpark · 12/10/2022 16:57

@WoodlandWalks123 thanks for the encouragement. next few in Dec now. yes got to keep going and practising. think my son gets distracted with peers from his class in same space and was a bit overwhelmed before the Kings exam. onwards and upwards as you say.

Candyfloss2 · 12/10/2022 17:13

1st December city test
3rd December St. Paul .
is it too close the dates .

Candyfloss2 · 12/10/2022 17:14

9 jan wus
10 jan Latimer
too close dates also .

User19876 · 12/10/2022 19:07

Agree @Candyfloss2 I wish they’d spread them out a bit. Alleyn’s is 9th January too. It has meant we’ve had to cut our choices down to only 2 because of the clashing dates. It seems too much to make them sit exams two days in a row at only 6 years old.

hockeygrass · 12/10/2022 19:13

The schools both at 7plus and 11plus put the dates together or clash to encourage parents to narrow their choices. You need to think about travel time and recommendations from pre-preps and tutors to keep your list realistic. Not many parents would consider KCS and City and Latymer as you would probably need to move house for 1 of them. Take on board all the feedback you get even from a school rejection at first stage as it helps you manage everyone's expectations.

Candyfloss2 · 12/10/2022 19:15

I will skip city and latymer this year.

if failed .
will just try 8+ next year.

After clock change : it will be dark cold 8am test until 12:30

like u said too cruel 2-3 days in a row for 6 years old .

my DC only just turned 6.
to visit total strange place with all strange faces .

Candyfloss2 · 12/10/2022 19:22

this is city boy last September . Not sure what is alike now .

Are you referring to City which starts at 8am for the test?

We are taking City but also not sure yet due to close exams soon after. Any clues on how tough / easy it is relative to WUS/SPJ/Kings?

What is the format of the City assessment?

Thanks

Candyfloss2 · 13/10/2022 12:11

From what I saw, all the kids I know of whom didn’t get into top 3 all went to city and carrying on trying for top 3 at the same time for the next entry point .

user34254356 · 13/10/2022 16:42

Oh so mass exodus at City at 8+ then this year.

I guess it's not the most convenient location wise. I've also seen boys switch from wus to st. paul's or vice versa for location too

Candyfloss2 · 14/10/2022 07:08

I heard of a boy didn’t get into kings bike to city daily for years . ( who lives next to kings)
