3+4+5+7+ support thread mumteacher 2021

I know it’s a little later than usual but here it is! #letsdothis

In previous years I have started these threads to help and support all those involved in the independent school admissions process.

I wasn't going to start one this year as I know I would not be able to check back on it as regularly as I would like, which then defeats the purpose of the thread.

However, after numerous positive PM's about the threads I think it would be a shame not to start one where at least the hand holding can continue. 🤝

There are many many people who have been through the process and 'live to tell the tale' . There are also other tutors I know who read this thread and it would be great if you all could help and support and share your ideas

@tiktokontheclock

What school is this for?
I'm not sure if that directed at me? If so, Channing. If not, sorry!
tiktokontheclock · 27/01/2022 16:15

I don't know a lot about channing. However, I listened in on an NLCS virtual open day (which we didn't apply for) and one of the team was asked about the importance of nursery references. They said they only give them a cursory glance - the lady specifically said if there is someone who hasn't done so well, and the nursery is raving about them, they may go back and have a look at them, but they're not the be all. I would assume channing do the same...I hope that helps.

IdealisticCynic · 27/01/2022 17:57

Thank you, tiktok. Sadly I fear we may well be in that position. I didn't need them to rave about her, I just wanted a true reflection of her ability. As I say, maybe all 3 years olds can do what she does, but that isn't what we were told by her last nursery.

tiktokontheclock · 27/01/2022 18:31

But how do you know she hasn't done well? That's the thing with these assessments - we're not in the room with them! Which in some ways is easier, some not. Did the teachers say anything to you on the way out? I assume you've done a round 2?

tiktokontheclock · 27/01/2022 18:33

Sorry just saw you did round 2. Well, I wish @Mumteacher1 would come along with some advice but I'm sure your DD did better than you thought. Getting to round 2 at these schools is an accomplishment in itself.

IdealisticCynic · 27/01/2022 20:03

I know it's impossible to tell so perhaps I'm driving myself mad unnecessarily. But it's the sense I got and so I was wondering how important the nursery report is. I am conscious of how ridiculously precious and pushy this all sounds. But we have been told by so many people that she is exceptionally bright so I am feeling frustrated with the nursery (including now worrying that they aren't paying enough attention to the children more generally) and I guess I was hoping someone would say the reports are irrelevant! I do appreciate you taking the time to engage though, so thank you.

tiktokontheclock · 27/01/2022 20:06

I think from what NLCS have said, it seems that they are. I mean this is all supposition, but I get the impression that the less selective schools are more reliant on them, and the more academic ones want to make their own minds up. IMO!!

StrawberryMom · 28/01/2022 12:40

Has anyone heard back from St. Helens or NLCS? Although they've mentioned the results will be announced on 31 Jan, I've heard they send them out a couple of days earlier.

Bertie1812 · 29/01/2022 12:21

SHHS 4+ results are out

Rangsrocks · 29/01/2022 12:55

Has anyone who has got rejection from SHHS , also got the letter ?

Herts56 · 29/01/2022 13:00

I haven’t received anything from SHHS yet. No email or post.
How have they let you know? Letters or emails?

Rangsrocks · 29/01/2022 13:04

Same here. Some people received post this afternoon. Don’t know if this was just for offers or rejections also.

tiktokontheclock · 29/01/2022 13:36

I haven't even applied there and the suspense is killing me. @Bertie1812 was your letter an offer?

How weird they would say 31 Jan but send out earlier

Bertie1812 · 29/01/2022 13:45

Yes, it was

horatio2 · 29/01/2022 18:17

Anyone received a habs boys 4+ offer through the post today? I understand offers were posted yesterday

tiktokontheclock · 29/01/2022 19:31

Who told you that?

horatio2 · 29/01/2022 20:33

@tiktokontheclock

Who told you that?
At the parents Q&A I thought they said offer letters were being posted on the 28th and everyone would be notified by email on the morning of the 31st...I might have misheard/misunderstood though
tiktokontheclock · 29/01/2022 20:37

We haven't gone for habs boys but for girls, I thought they would be emailed on the 31st Blush

ZaphodBeeblerox · 29/01/2022 21:32

We haven’t heard anything yet from SHHS. The people who had heard back, was it through the post? Or email?

Rangsrocks · 30/01/2022 12:47

Post.. but I guess only offers have gone out by post.

tiktokontheclock · 31/01/2022 08:30

Offers through for Habs

StrawberryMom · 31/01/2022 08:32

@tiktokontheclock - was that in the post or email?

tiktokontheclock · 31/01/2022 08:34

Email but they say they will also post

StrawberryMom · 31/01/2022 08:45

Just received the NLCS rejection email :-( waiting on St Helens now

Bertie1812 · 31/01/2022 09:08

Results from NLCS and Habs were by email
