3+4+5+7+ support thread mumteacher 2021

I know it’s a little later than usual but here it is! #letsdothis

In previous years I have started these threads to help and support all those involved in the independent school admissions process.

I wasn't going to start one this year as I know I would not be able to check back on it as regularly as I would like, which then defeats the purpose of the thread.

However, after numerous positive PM's about the threads I think it would be a shame not to start one where at least the hand holding can continue. 🤝

There are many many people who have been through the process and 'live to tell the tale' . There are also other tutors I know who read this thread and it would be great if you all could help and support and share your ideas

Excited time everyone! We didn’t go through 2nd round both Habs and NLCS hehe so still waiting for others…congratulations you all who now have the offer(s) on hand!

Rangsrocks · 31/01/2022 09:30

Anyone heard from Highgate for 4+

ZaphodBeeblerox · 31/01/2022 09:42

Got waitlisted at SHHS, got an offer from NLCS, both on email. We’re happy since NLCS was our first choice. Good luck to everyone else waiting! Still have to hear from St C’s and Channing.

Buppalo · 31/01/2022 10:05

Congratulations! Are you able to describe how’s your dad behave both socially and academically? I just want to know what NLCS is looking for at age? I know 1 girl who didn’t get in from today result but I couldn’t find any reasons why?hehe so we share our experiences to the parents next year

IdealisticCynic · 31/01/2022 10:17

Just got an offer from Highgate pre-prep by email. Good luck to all who applied. Still nothing from Channing (our preferred school) though - has anyone heard from them yet please?

Buppalo · 31/01/2022 10:38

Oop. DD not dad!

StrawberryMom · 31/01/2022 10:58

anyone waiting for St Helens?

FunnyBear · 31/01/2022 11:23

Though the Schools say they want children who are more teachable, curious, and naturally independent etc. .. the 4+ is a sheer lottery. One only sees certain patterns ---> the Nursery setting, nearness to school, parents' education & occupation, siblings (current/future girls?), month cohort, bi/multi-lingual?

habsboys2020 · 31/01/2022 11:30

@FunnyBear completely agree with you!

Got Habs 4+ offer today

tiktokontheclock · 31/01/2022 11:42

@StrawberryMom

anyone waiting for St Helens?
St. Helens say on the website they will post today so we should find out tomorrow

We are also still waiting to hear from Channing and St C’s
Chattog · 31/01/2022 12:19

Has anyone heard from Channing? Either way. On tenterhooks...

ZaphodBeeblerox · 31/01/2022 12:30

We’ve heard back from St Christopher’s, but nothing yet from Channing. Don’t seem to know anyone who got an offer from SHHS - everyone we know got waitlisted. Who knows what they’re looking for!

Heard from a couple of schools that they don’t have any kind of numbering in their waitlist and that it might be worthwhile calling/emailing to express interest again if you’re on a waitlist and it’s a top choice.

ZaphodBeeblerox · 31/01/2022 12:36

Have now heard of at least one non-sibling SHHS offer and the girl I know is unabashedly confident (and very bright to boot). My own DD takes a little bit of time to warm up to people, and needs to be reminded to speak up sometimes - might be the sort of thing SHHS at least were looking for.

Bertie1812 · 31/01/2022 12:37

Channing results are out

Chattog · 31/01/2022 12:38

Channing offers are out.

We have an offer from South Hampstead. My daughter is a very late August birthday. She is extremely confident and went in to the assessment without looking back - I think they are looking for a mix of kids, introvert and extrovert and how ‘teachable’ they are as well as how good they are at filling instructions
partygate · 31/01/2022 12:56

Hi, does anyone know what the waiting list is actually like for South Hampstead? I don't want to spend too much headspace on comparing offers if the waiting list offer from South Hampstead is unlikely to materialise into an actual place.

phopa · 31/01/2022 13:20

@partydate
From my experience, there is very little movement at the SHHS waiting list. 1-2 places if any.

thanks @phopa. Does that apply to 4+ (I should have put that in my original post)

Nervousfranticmom · 31/01/2022 14:19

Hi, any idea if SHHS waitilist moves at 7+? DD has been waitlisted and it’s all too stressful. Appreciate your inputs. Thanks!

phopa · 31/01/2022 14:32

yes, I only have experience of the 4+.

user1493067404 · 31/01/2022 14:44

Does anyone have any experience of the Channing wait list? Are they operating exploding offers this year or is it a genuine wait list?

Nervousfranticmom · 31/01/2022 14:52

Thank you so much!

partygate · 31/01/2022 15:25

@user1493067404 I had thought all the North London Schools no longer did exploding offers due to the previous bad press?
