3+4+5+7+ support thread mumteacher 2021

I know it’s a little later than usual but here it is! #letsdothis

In previous years I have started these threads to help and support all those involved in the independent school admissions process.

I wasn't going to start one this year as I know I would not be able to check back on it as regularly as I would like, which then defeats the purpose of the thread.

However, after numerous positive PM's about the threads I think it would be a shame not to start one where at least the hand holding can continue. 🤝

There are many many people who have been through the process and 'live to tell the tale' . There are also other tutors I know who read this thread and it would be great if you all could help and support and share your ideas

Becasue my friend just emailed them to decline an offer from SHHS

ISW2022 · 01/02/2023 13:11

I’d love to know how the list moves too! We are waiting on SHHS 4+ waitlist movement… we were told by admissions there is no ranking on the list(!). It’s beyond me how they make decisions in this case.

FeelingAnxious248 · 01/02/2023 13:14

A declined offer unfortunately doesn't mean movement on a waitlist as all schools over offer. I know of 2 girls that have declined SHHS at 4+ and that list hasn't moved as yet.

ISW2022 · 01/02/2023 13:36

Yes, sadly that’s the case…

Hopefulmum7 · 01/02/2023 13:40

@ISW2022 i was told the same about the wait list, seems they don’t rank it as some girls on it decline the wait list offer. I’d imagine they don’t act on the waitlist (if at all) until after the offer acceptance deadline, but that is pure speculation.

ISW2022 · 01/02/2023 13:43

@Hopefulmum7 I get that some girls will decline and yet if you’ve got more than one girl on that waitlist and one available spot, you still need SOME ranking criteria to make that offer!

Hopefulmum7 · 01/02/2023 13:46

@ISW2022 I meant they don’t rank it until they have clarity about who on the waitlist is still interested in the school. I’m quite sure they will rank it next week once they have all the information from waitlisted girls and those who were originally offered a place. Time to stop refreshing my emails!

ISW2022 · 01/02/2023 13:47

@Hopefulmum7 I got you! And yeah, me too! Haha

bbshaw · 01/02/2023 14:26

I know some schools organise the waiting list by age. So, if someone with a March birthday declines an offer they look to find someone with a March birthday on the waiting list to replace them…

mumoftwo86 · 01/02/2023 14:55

When are all the acceptance dates for

SHHS
Channing
Highgate
NLCS
Habs is next Wednesday

FeelingAnxious248 · 01/02/2023 15:29

@mumoftwo86 they're all the 8th at noon.

ISW2022 · 01/02/2023 15:57

@bbshaw yes, this was my husband’s guess. Makes it really tricky actually.

mumoftwo86 · 01/02/2023 16:30

@ISW2022 - if wait list places become available they will only let you know after acceptance deadline.

FeelingAnxious248 · 01/02/2023 16:41

@mumoftwo86 is that what the school you've been waitlisted at has said to you? Looking back at old threads it seems sometimes they can move earlier else people waiting who have an offer elsewhere could lose it?

mumoftwo86 · 01/02/2023 16:43

Yes, the registrar has said they will be in touch after acceptance deadline.

hopefulmum16 · 01/02/2023 16:48

I think you have to tell them if you have an offer that you have to respond to, so in case it moves earlier, they tell you if you have a shot. If there is no other offer, then just a continued waiting game

Ivyfly · 01/02/2023 22:41

ISW2022 · 30/01/2023 12:04

@sunrise16 We also have an offer from Channing so I would love to hear about your experience with the school. My daughter really enjoyed the assessments and I know Channing is strong in arts, music and also very nurturing. Is this your experience? What about sports/STEM? We aren’t that close to the school (QP way) so she would be taking the newly introduced coach service if she goes. Do you think not being close affects the ability to form local friendships? Are most of the girls from around Highgate? Thanks in advance!

have you found out the Channing coach service route yet? Thank you

ISW2022 · 02/02/2023 00:32

@Ivyfly not really… seems like they are further behind than I hoped… I’ll ask again at the offer holders Q&A tomorrow.

hopefulmum16 · 02/02/2023 09:51

Hey, anybody heard from the Hall yet? asking for a friend who is anxiously waiting for that result!

Ivyfly · 02/02/2023 09:57

hopefulmum16 · 02/02/2023 09:51

Hey, anybody heard from the Hall yet? asking for a friend who is anxiously waiting for that result!

The hall result is tomorrow?

hopefulmum16 · 02/02/2023 10:00

One of our nursery kids heard back - a no - so my friend is anxious now and waiting. Maybe they are sending declines one and send offer packs later/tomorrow

Hopefulmum7 · 02/02/2023 10:06

We just heard back from the Hall.

hopefulmum16 · 02/02/2023 10:08

okay yeah my friend heard too actually - I am glad they decided to finally give the results out, will help people make the decision now finally with all other deadlines fast approaching!

hopefulmum16 · 02/02/2023 10:50

Curious if people will choose Hall versus UCS?

mumof2northwestlondon · 02/02/2023 11:00

We had this dilemma last year. We went for UCS and are so happy!
