3+4+5+7+ support thread mumteacher 2021

I know it’s a little later than usual but here it is! #letsdothis

In previous years I have started these threads to help and support all those involved in the independent school admissions process.

I wasn't going to start one this year as I know I would not be able to check back on it as regularly as I would like, which then defeats the purpose of the thread.

However, after numerous positive PM's about the threads I think it would be a shame not to start one where at least the hand holding can continue. 🤝

There are many many people who have been through the process and 'live to tell the tale' . There are also other tutors I know who read this thread and it would be great if you all could help and support and share your ideas

Hi everyone, are there any parents on here with their kids currently in Habs girl reception / KS1 ? I have a few practical questions and would love to get a bit more infos on the school, I am seeing there is no coach until Y3 : do families usually move to the area ? No afterschool club in reception : is there anything alternative locally for parents who are both working ? Thanks a lot and have a lovely day all!

What is the normal drop off time and then what time is breakfast club?

What is the normal pick time and in reception how late can they stay in after school care?

My brain feels like mush, today was an eventful day. Waitlisted at our top school and now a wishful waiting game to see if we get our top choice, before we accept our other offer. Exhausted and defeated!

Sorry you are feeling like this @hopefulmum16 The extended wait can’t be helping. Do you have an indication of when you will ‘know’ by. Assuming you have called the school and expressed how much you would like a place etc…

I have called them, but I am not sure if they over offer and if there is any chance to move up the waitlist. We have a great school that has offered us, but it wasn’t our top choice and I am seriously struggling as the clock is ticking on the other offer :( I don’t know how much calling/contacting the school is okay, don’t want to pester them but also want to show we are keen.

Sure! The school starts at 8.30 but the breakfast club is available from 7.30am, in Reception they have infant enrichment club available daily after school, like a late room, basically, it goes till 5.30. Really lovely, nurturing school and I am a huge fan of Mr Webster.

@Mamusik20 - thank you! This fits with what others I’ve asked have said, including rave reviews of Mr Webster from everyone. How does your daughter find it in a small class size?

i also see it’s leaver destinations at sixth form (and those few at 11) are top notch

She loves and it works for her, she is 29 August born. But the class is great, full of confident and bright personalities.

No direct experience. Only aware of one boy who got a place from the waitlist for 7+ in the year when my daughter got in.

Hi @Mamusik20 , if I didn’t get it wrong, you have two girls with the younger one going to St Margaret’s Hampstead and the older one at Highgate?

I assume that you are based in Hampstead area? Would u mind sharing your experience of school run? As I have 2 kids as well and am working out the logistics before making my decision. I heard that parking near Highgate pre-prep during school hours is tricky and I am thinking of using public transport. My DS has got 4+ offers including Highgate and we r based in NW3 (swiss cottage).

You got it right! It works fine for us, we actually live at Hocroft estate, where the UCS playing fields are. We drive the girls, St Margaret’s stop first and then Highgate. No probs with parking. When they are in the junior school you can start dropping the kids off by the fields entrance, security guy let them in, you don’t even need to park. Works pretty well for us.
