Anybody taking the 7+ exam this year? I have noticed there isn't a thread on it this year. We are going to be trying for St Paul's and Kings. At the moment we are really struggling with the comprehension. Anybody else in the same boat?

Congrats!
Which day is your son’s interview?

Superworriedmum · 29/11/2021 13:58

It’s a no for us too :(
They have asked us to reapply for 8+

Superworriedmum · 29/11/2021 13:58

Congrats to all those who have passed 🎉🥳

Superworriedmum · 29/11/2021 14:00

Can anyone please suggest tutor specifically who prepares for St Paul’s

Superworriedmum · 29/11/2021 15:02

Can I please ask, kids who have passed got how much marks in Maths & english? Trying to understand what % to target next time

indiesearcher · 29/11/2021 16:21

No go fir us 😭

Curiousma · 29/11/2021 18:12

@Superworriedmum Sorry to hear that your DS could not get an offer. where do you live?
I personally think you don’t need a tutor to prepare for St Paul’s exam. You can do it all yourself. But if you are working long hours it is different.
I will PM you later for some resources and tutor names.

Lolakath19 · 29/11/2021 18:43

@superworriedmum I am sorry to hear you were not invited back. Those who have been have not received their rates yet.
Did you receive yours in the email?

Shehr · 29/11/2021 20:34

@Superworriedmum we didn't tutor as well but he did do some practice using EPP and Schofield and Sims books. They haven't yet communicated the passing marks but I will let you know if I find out anything.

Does anyone know how SPJ assign the interview dates? Is it based on date of birth or alphabetic order of names?

2minutesplease · 29/11/2021 21:52

I think it is based on current schools, definitely not the surnames.

icantbelievethis001 · 29/11/2021 23:40

It's done by schools. Your DS will be invited back with classmates on the same day. This is to make it fair and that boys who go first don't tell others what is involved.

@2minutesplease @icantbelievethis001. Thank you!

muminwood · 30/11/2021 09:04

@Shehr what level Schofield for reasoning and Comp did you go upto? For papers, we only did some of the EPP ones and sat 2 mocks. We have 2 more schools to sit so May do some of the Schofield ones. Thanks!

muminwood · 30/11/2021 09:09

@Superworriedmum not sure if it helps but DS got 43 in Math. They said he scored in the top quarter and that he just missed the interview and asked us to reapply for 8+. We didn’t get scores for reasoning and Comprehension but he scored in the upper quarter for both. My guess would be 70-75% as an average.

Shehr · 30/11/2021 09:34

@muminwood we went up to 9-10 for reasoning. I didn't use S&Sims for comprehension. We just used EPP for that.

May I ask which school are you referring to?thanks

Lolakath19 · 30/11/2021 09:36

@muminwood so does that mean that they were more than 400 kids sitting this year?
if they called back 100 for second round and your son was not called back but was in first quarter

Do someone know what to expect for 2nd round?

muminwood · 30/11/2021 09:57

@Bellaumbrealla this is for St Paul’s. From what I hear they have called back 100 students for the 2nd round. I reckon ours may have been within 130 since they specifically mentioned in the letter that he has just missed the interview as a few of the other mums I spoke to were asked to wait a few more years before reapplying. Our letter was very encouraging and the feedback was very positive but I doubt we would be reapplying at 8+. Can’t imagine going through another year of this.:)

muminwood · 30/11/2021 09:59

I should add that overall DS was in the upper quarter. They probably averaged the Top quarter for Math and upper quarter for reasoning and Comprehension. I don’t even know the difference between Top quarter and upper quarter!

muminwood · 30/11/2021 10:00

Thank you @Shehr. Very helpful. X

Lolakath19 · 30/11/2021 10:10

Maybe it goes top quarter upper quarter lower quarter and last quarter

Appreciate if anyone could kindly give some update re.St Paul’s interview please?

Curiousma · 30/11/2021 15:20

@Bellaumbrealla Mrs Shaw will give children maths lesson, asked some questions about it and give them a test. There is a creative writing too.The rest is playing similar to King’s. Not all the children is getting 1:1 interview.
