Anybody taking the 7+ exam this year? I have noticed there isn't a thread on it this year. We are going to be trying for St Paul's and Kings. At the moment we are really struggling with the comprehension. Anybody else in the same boat?

@shehr congratulations to you and your DS and a huge thank you for starting this useful thread.

7PlusPP1234 · 21/01/2022 21:43

Unfortunately we didn’t make it . DS got through 2nd round of both WUS and SPJ but no offers . We will try again at 8+. Well done to everyone successful !!

Jesse21plus · 21/01/2022 22:32

Congratulations to all! Hope those on waiting list will get offer soon in the coming days! Thanks all for sharing thoughts, excitement and pains together which has made this process much more bearable.

@7PlusPP1234. As long as DS can move into the second stage, it shows he is almost there and probably only marginal difference. Good luck for 8+

Examsrus · 22/01/2022 03:36

Just gathering some stats on the top three of Kings, SPJ, WUS from the forum.

Applied for/second round/offers/waitlist.

DS applied for all of the big three, made 2x 2nd rounds, received 1 offer, no waitlist would be

3/2/1/0

elij · 22/01/2022 07:43

3/3/3/0 (8+)

Bogummy · 22/01/2022 08:19

2/2/1/0 if anyone is going to SPJ tour on Tuesday, would be good to connect.

waitlist7 · 22/01/2022 09:03

Hi everyone, congratulations on your sons' achievements!
Please do let me know if you are planning on giving up your WUS offer next week. We are on the waitlist, and it's our first and only choice due to location, so every glimpse of hope counts and will be much appreciated! thank you x

Shehr · 22/01/2022 09:09

@waitlist7 we will be giving up ours. All the best to your DS

@waitlist7

Thank you so much for letting me know and huge congratulations to your DS!
Do WUS tell your wait position number?

Thanks

waitlist7 · 22/01/2022 12:10

@Examsrus no, they didn’t. Not sure if they have ranking.

Muminmum · 22/01/2022 13:44

Hi all, we also got through 8+ at WUS. If anyone is joining year 4 in September and would like a playdate before the start of the school year so the kids can get to know each other, drop me a pm. Huge congrats to all that got an offer and best of luck to all on waitlist!

puzzledmom · 22/01/2022 14:29

Congrats @Muminmum . Would you be able to share how you prepared for 8 plus?

Examsrus · 22/01/2022 15:16

@Muminmum Did DS also try at 7+?

I'm not sure we could go through it all again at 8+!

7PlusPP1234 · 22/01/2022 15:58

Similar position . Not sure if we would want the child to go through the same process again . Although he got through round 2 in both so he is very close but not enough for 7+.

Do we need to register / apply again for 8+ ?

Examsrus · 22/01/2022 16:33

I think for 8+ , the whole process is reset and you have to start again. There is no fast track for 7+ second round people.... however would be interesting if @Muminmum did apply at 7+ previously!

Dingdong44 · 22/01/2022 17:11

Hello mums. Recently joined mumsnet. Congratulations to all who got their desired choice of school. It is indeed difficult when almost there and no offer on the table. 8+ is a different ball game and often works in favour of previous 7+ students as they know the ropes. This is true for those who have had interviews but no offers. It also comes down a lot on the feeder schools esp for WUS and SPJ. So if your DS comes from top 5 feeder schools- Wetherby, HHS, Eaton House, etc it makes a world of a difference as you would already know. Almost all the 3 top schools (Kings, WUS and SPJ) look out for the shining state school students even if it’s in very small numbers comparatively. The truth however is that majority of the seats belong to top feeder schools. It is definitely harder at 7+ if not from top feeder school however at 8+ you are competing with the already higher benchmark ‘almost there’ kids. So it’s definitely a good chance to go through 8+ again especially if you come from a feeder school.

Muminmum · 22/01/2022 18:12

@puzzledmom sure! we did the usual EPP and Schofield and Sims books for 8+ and some 9+. For VR and NVR we used bond books too. He’s always read a lot and usually books that are 2-3 years ahead of his age and has a big vocabulary so that def helped with comprehension and creative writing. Hope this helps.

Muminmum · 22/01/2022 18:17

@Examsrus no, we did not do 7+.

puzzledmom · 22/01/2022 19:49

Thanks @Muminmum . Appreciate it

AmandaThomp · 23/01/2022 08:41

Does anyone have any insights on what type of "families" there are in WUS? Are there many mid-class working families or ? Thanks

elij · 23/01/2022 08:54

@AmandaThomp can't speak for all families but we start in September and we're just 2 working parents
