7+ exam

Anybody taking the 7+ exam this year? I have noticed there isn't a thread on it this year. We are going to be trying for St Paul's and Kings. At the moment we are really struggling with the comprehension. Anybody else in the same boat?

@2minutesplease is SPJ your first choice?

@Shehr location wise KCS is much more convenient but there are more interesting clubs in SPJ… DS liked KCS more, my DH liked SPJ more. I loved SPJ’s transparency and Mrs Shaw’s lovely attitude, but on the other hand she’s leaving to another school.
How about you, what are your thoughts?

Shehr · 07/12/2021 16:43

@2minutesplease location wise SPJ is better for us but I really like Kings as well, it's a tough choice. Is your DS sitting Westminster? I don't know what to do. We went to their open morning and I wasn't blown away but of course it has a great reputation.

Mrs Shaw is leaving?
Do you know who is her successor?
Thanks

2minutesplease · 07/12/2021 17:33

@Shehr, no, we are not sitting Westminster due to location and I generally think that my DS wouldn’t probably be a very good fit.
@Bellaumbrealla I think no one knows yet who is coming after her. I mean current and future SPJ parents.

Are you current parent, so when is she leaving?
The head is so important to a school, any school…

sunshineclouds24 · 07/12/2021 18:06

@Bellaumbrealla , she is going to Danes Hill near Esher in Sept 22, it was announced last June.

2minutesplease · 07/12/2021 18:33

@Bellaumbrealla, no, I’m not a current parent but I spoke to some and they told me that they were not advised who is a successor.

Parent123456 · 07/12/2021 19:45

I think both schools are amazing. Our first choice is kings although we are waiting to see if we will have the choice. The fact that Mrs Shaw is leaving and no successors have been announced yet is the main reason for our choice.

Jesse21plus · 07/12/2021 20:30

I heard from a current parent that the successor was just announced today

Kitkatbat · 07/12/2021 20:34

Oliver Snowball from Eaton House is mrs Shaw successor next year.

Lolakath19 · 07/12/2021 21:37

@2minutesplease interesting you said that about club, I had the impression that the clubs were very similar at both school in terms of sports, languages, music and other activities like debating, coding, green team, art etc?

2minutesplease · 08/12/2021 00:51

@Lolakath19, maybe it’s about first years - Kings tend to not to overload kids with extracurricular activities after school as they want them to settle smoothly and have plenty of rest (that’s what I heard). Later on the amount of clubs builds up.

Curiousma · 08/12/2021 06:31

I agree with all of you that it is a very tough decision. Both schools are great.
I also think you can’t go wrong with your choice. Club wise I feel the same @2minutesplease.
But clubs would not be on the centre of my decision the children are still very young ( junior school) it may be very tempting to sign up for a whole host of exciting clubs. However, I think these are very busy schools and the children need to balance their co-curricular commitments with what they are doing in class and also they need to have time to relax, socialise and play at regular points.

Anyone else getting anxious about the SPJS results coming out?

Shehr · 08/12/2021 21:04

Is it true that she has verbally offered to some parents already?

OP posts:
7PlusPP1234 · 08/12/2021 21:08

Don’t think she has offered places to any one at St Pauls. I think with all she gave a rank of top some thing . Hopefullly results come sooner than Friday

Shehr · 08/12/2021 21:20

Someone on this thread commented that she verbally gave an offer to top 20 boys so I was just wondering....

OP posts:
SWLParent · 08/12/2021 21:27

My understanding is that the ranking is less relevant post- interview. The reason that a hundred odd boys are called back is that they have already achieved the academic standard required and the assessment stage then determines the final offers. I have heard that they do not want to miss out on good candidates hence they don't automatically offer to those who achieved the highest rankings.

muminwood · 08/12/2021 21:28

One of the parents whose DS was in the top 50 was told by the head that the interview did not go well for their DS. I was of the opinion that the meeting with the head and group interview of boys was being done simultaneously 🤷🏻‍♀️

2minutesplease · 08/12/2021 21:49

My DS definitely didn’t take part in anything which may be called an interview. Mrs Shaw spent mb an hour with the group of kids (parents were waiting in the conference room) and then I assume she had a quick chat with other teachers and came back to speak to parents. When she spoke to me she not only shared her thoughts but also those of other teachers.

Shehr · 08/12/2021 21:59

Likewise. My DS didn't have an interview in any form. Mrs Shaw only gave her feedback from the maths session she had with the boys.

OP posts:
muminwood · 08/12/2021 22:07

I suppose that’s what it was. They did get told the interview/activity day didn’t go too well.

Parent123456 · 09/12/2021 13:54

Has anyone heard anything yet? the email said on or before the 10Dec..

2minutesplease · 09/12/2021 14:15

I heard that emails will be sent tomorrow - that’s what my friends were told on Tuesday by Mrs Shaw.
