Anybody taking the 7+ exam this year? I have noticed there isn't a thread on it this year. We are going to be trying for St Paul's and Kings. At the moment we are really struggling with the comprehension. Anybody else in the same boat?

@Bellaumbrealla, regardless of what 10 means I think it’s fantastic :) congratulations, hope it’s all done for your DS and he can now relax. Our interview is today, will share later on!

Shehr · 02/12/2021 09:56

@Bellaumbrealla congratulations on the superb rank. Did your DS have an interview in any form?

@Bellaumbrealla congratulations! Can I know if you are given the ranking for each paper (maths, English, etc) or just overall ranking? Thanks

Parent123456 · 02/12/2021 12:20

For the fairness of the process please don’t share any info on the second stage until the process is over ie 8 December.
This is the reason the boys are group by school for second round: ie to avoid some boys knowing in advance what they will be doing and having parents prepare them for that.

Parent123456 · 02/12/2021 12:21

The headmistress will provide prospective parents with the overall ranking of the boys and discuss any spiky profile.

icantbelievethis001 · 02/12/2021 12:26

Ranking is everything. We know a DS who was ranked 2 and didn't get an offer. Similarly there are boys who were ranked lower than 54 who got offers. There is a lot of emphasis placed on what happens on the day

icantbelievethis001 · 02/12/2021 12:26

Sorry meant to say that ranking isn't everything!

Curiousma · 02/12/2021 13:02

@Parent123456
Don’t worry every groups do different activities. They are having assessment for their behaviours and team work they have already assessed academically.
All this info people share here is to get other moms nerves done.
Our children will be a classmate very soon they will be friends to the 18 years old like brothers and as a parents probably we will be spending all our retirement together everybody need to be sensible. This platform is for sharing:)
You should believe your DS don’t worry about sharing.
Mrs Shaw is very professional she knows who is over tutors who has already prepared for the assessment who has potential who is clever who is cleverer.
All close friends already sharing their experience even though they are from different schools.
Sharing is caring don’t be afraid of it.

@Curiousma completely agree x

I can see where @Parent123456 is from and when people share info, please do consider there are quite a few children haven’t completed their process yet (including mine). guess the parents who have completed will make sensible decision on what they can share - it’s for their own DS interest as well

2minutesplease · 02/12/2021 13:35

I agree that tasks are different- what my DS described is different from what other posters mentioned above. And I must honestly say that my impressions that they do not assess academia at this stage as @Curiousma suggested.
Mrs Shaw did give a detailed ranking and advised what impression the DC made on her and other teachers during morning assessment. She also gives an opportunity to ask questions.

Curiousma · 02/12/2021 14:05

@Jesse21plus of course everyone need to be sensible what they are sharing. So far all our sharings are sensible no body wrote any details information about their experience. Just a general info that you could find on another blogs or from current parents for that reason I wrote that long message @Parent123456.

Jesse21plus · 02/12/2021 14:31

@Curiousma sorry don’t think my post suggested your sharing wasn’t sensible so don’t get me wrong. Think @Parent123456 just tries to remind people not getting details given quite a few haven’t finished theirs yet.

Curiousma · 02/12/2021 14:55

@Jesse21plus I got @Parent123456 ‘s point too. All of us wants a fair assessment for our children. I just wanted to say sharing sensibly helps us to feel not very anxious.

Good luck everyone for tomorrow’s assessment and the next week.

For those already had their assessment it seems long time to wait for me.

Parent123456 · 03/12/2021 10:59

@icantbelievethis001 - We know a DS who was ranked 2 and didn't get an offer. Similarly there are boys who were ranked lower than 54 who got offers.
Mrs Shaw did tell the top 20 boys parents that they could have a glass of wine in the evening.. which suggests it will be pretty much automatic for them to have the offer.
Probably for boys between 40 - 70 the decision is quite not as straightforward and emphasis will be made on the second round.
It would also probably take a lot for a boys between 80-100 to be offer a place, ie he would have to strongly impress the head and the other teachers.

muminwood · 03/12/2021 11:24

Good luck to all waiting on SPJ offers! Not too long to go now.

Anyone sitting for Highgate/City/Habs this week?

Does someone know what tranches St Paul communicated in terms of ranking ie top 20, 40, 60 80 or 100 or was it more granular than this (top 10, 20, 30,40, 50 etc)?

It will be your ds actual ranking. Can't be more transparent than that
Parent123456 · 03/12/2021 16:45

Well it was not the case for us, we had a top something as the other parents in the same school as our son.

Shehr · 03/12/2021 18:14

@Parent123456 yes it was a top something for us too. Not the exact rank.
