Only a few days left until we hear the outcome/offer for primary admissions (to reception). Anyone else finding the wait tricky?!

I'd completely forgotten! Thanks for the reminder!

pastabest · 12/04/2021 16:23

No but I have a recurring nightmare that I have forgotten to apply for a place.

It's been a stressful year and I've generally lost all track of what I have and haven't done.

Is the offer day this week some time? We are fortunate to live equidistant between two village schools which have never been over subscribed so I'm trying not to think about it too much.

Mokaloli · 12/04/2021 16:27

It's this Friday, 16th April. I think I might have liked to forget 😂 & be made aware by the email on Friday!

I can't think of anything else, if I'm honest!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 12/04/2021 19:43

Good luck! Currently stuck in In Year Admissions limbo and we are guessing the reason we can't get through to the School Admissions office at the Council is the Reception Admissions.

Mokaloli · 12/04/2021 20:01

I'm with you Spacemonkey2016, I'm trying to distract myself by keeping busy! I looking forward to the wait being over. It's so long between application & offer.

How many choices have people put down?

Thanks, Aroundtheworldin80moves. Oh sorry to hear you can't get through, that sounds frustrating.

We put 3 choices, none of which are catchment 🙈 but our catchment school is inadequate & always undersubscribed so I know that’ll be the school we get offered if all else fails!

We poured over council admissions data & measured how far our house was in both road miles & as the bird flies. In any other year in the past 8 years, we’d have got into our top 3 both road & bird flies miles (not sure how the council actually measure!) .. so we’ll be so unlucky if we don’t but who knows! 😬

Good luck everyone - do you know when your councils release the info? Our portal says 8am on Friday morning!

Friday 16th is all we know but apparently it’s around midnight!! Totally will not be able to sleep now I know that! Good luck everyone x
Spacemonkey2016 · 12/04/2021 20:34

I only put 2. Literally all of the schools near us are oversubscribed, and you need to live very close to get in (under 0.5 miles tops), so I just put the two closest, one of which is catchment. Both good schools, just one is a whole primary school, the other an infants/juniors, which I slightly prefer, as I think DS might be daunted being thrown into a school with 450 odd pupils straight away.

I'm staying up to log in to the portal at midnight. I have no idea what time we can see, but won't be able to sleep anyway! Good luck, everyone.

AnnaSW1 · 12/04/2021 20:43

I can't wait. We're 0.2 miles from our number one choice but it still might not be close enough due to where we live.

Ostryga · 12/04/2021 20:58

Just had a massive panic. DD’s catchment is awful, but the exact same distance away as our first choice - both 0.2 miles. It doesn’t make any sense.

I’ve also clearly lost my mind and chosen a second choice as one that’s a 30min walk away in the apposite direction of work (but still catchment - which again makes no sense to me)

Might have to mainline wine and pretend it’s not happening tbh Confused

Mokaloli · 12/04/2021 21:52

It's stressful isn't it?! Yes I'm planning to wait up until after midnight. Fingers crossed we may get the news late Thursday. Wine sounds like a good plan!

I applied for 4. Our first choice & nearest is 0.4 miles away but it's oversubscribed. The top 3 of 4 choices are the nearest schools to us.

The first choice facilities wraparound care too! 🤞

There is another post going about this too.

But yes, I'm agonising. I also applied for three schools out of catchment. Also live next to a requires improvement school with a three form intake that is always undersubscribed. Can't decide if we don't get any of the three choices if we should go with that one for convenience or go to a slightly less worse one further away.

Also none of my three choices are perfect either, all have good and bad points so there isn't really a perfect possible outcome, but I can't stand the not knowing.

ellesbellesxxx · 13/04/2021 06:45

We put 4 down, first choice 0.2 miles, second 0.5 miles (both oversubscribed) then I have gone for schools where I work! One we would get into as it’s under subscribed and the other is too far... really hoping for choice one but it’s a high sibling year

OhShitShit · 13/04/2021 06:52

Every time I think about it I freak out that I’ve filled out the form wrong.
Can’t go back to check now. It’s too terrifying a thought.
I’ll just have to have intermittent panic attacks for the next 3 days...

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 13/04/2021 09:45

I'm nervous despite it being my 5th time doing it! Waiting for dc5's offer, my older 4 are there currently, will be 3 in September. We have sibling priority & there aren't that many other siblings going up this year but I'm still nervous. Last year 3 families with sibs didn't get younger dc in so I'm aware it doesn't make it a certainty. I'm not as nervous as I was last month with the secondary offers for dc1 though. I'm going to be a mess on 6/9, I'd been hoping they wouldn't have the same 'first day'!

Mokaloli · 13/04/2021 10:02

3 days to go! 2 if we're lucky & get the results late Thursday 😜

Thanks for letting us know about the other post, I've had a look now 😊

This will be my only application (one dd), but it's tense. Can't imagine 5 applications! 😳 Hopefully sibling priority will help get your child into your preferred school.

My youngest starts reception this year. We live in a small village and the local catchment primary is a 5 minute walk away. It’s a lovely school, it’s the only choice I put down. I know that parents from the 2 big towns near us apply for places out of catchment. Fingers crossed! Good luck for Friday.

InsideNumberNine · 13/04/2021 17:39

Like @HolmeH and @user64325 our nearest school is ‘Requires improvement’ and an always undersubscribed three class intake. We’ve applied for five slightly out of catchment and I’ll be delighted if he gets into any of those. I cant see me sleeping much Thursday night...

Mokaloli · 14/04/2021 09:19

Two days to go! First thing on my mind this morning... I'm looking forward to helping something else to think about.

NatalieH2220 · 14/04/2021 09:31

I can't wait! We have put down 3 options but I only really want the first so a bit anxious in case we don't get it.

I'm waiting for this to then work out my return to work plan / childcare for DS2 after maternity leave so getting impatient now.

Mokaloli · 14/04/2021 09:37

I know that you mean @NatalieH2220, I'm waiting to find out which school so I can arrange leave. I've put down 2 schools in 2 districts as I'm on the boundary of two counties - the two counties have different term dates! I'm feeling impatient too. I put the application in at the start of November - it's such a long wait.
I really want my first choice too, I'd really like to be able to walk to the school 🤞

We’re super nervous here too!

We moved to a new area prior to nursery and we were meant to exchange on our house prior to the deadline to use this as the address for application. Needless to say, that didn’t happen and now we’re due to exchange next week.

I’ve already spoken with admissions and it’s been confirmed that as we’d be moving closer to choices 1 and 2 it’s no issue if we get those schools but if we got choice 3 it’s slightly further away so would need to be reassessed.

I’m only moving 100m down the road but I’m so nervous that the ‘new’ address would have got in our top choices and the ‘current’ address didn’t, when I’d be cursing the sellers for holding things up!

CeibaTree · 14/04/2021 15:04

I've read that Surrey/London don't release the results until 5pm on the 16th, so that's going to be a loong day. Other LEA's release at midnight though, so a lot of people won't have to wait that extra day!

Spinningaround18 · 14/04/2021 21:12

So nervous, this last week has lasted an eternity! Won't get first choice as so popular, but would be happy with other two choices. Worried about wraparound care now, going to be a nightmare when I'm back at work as don't think either have provision on-site...
