Only a few days left until we hear the outcome/offer for primary admissions (to reception). Anyone else finding the wait tricky?!

I think ours is midnight, hope so!

We've just moved house which is giving me something else to focus on, but all the new neighbor children on our street go to the second nearest school from our new house which I very nearly put as a choice but didn't and now I am regretting that!

My first choice is 0.6 miles from the new house, but was 1.6 miles from our old house and we didn't exchange on time. We would have got in from our old house twice out of the last 6 years.

2nd choice we have zero chance as we we didn't exchange in time and no-one has ever got in anywhere near as far as our old house.

Third choice is 1.6 miles from the new house, and a great school but I don't drive and do most of the school runs so it will be a hike, would have to cycle I think. Used to be very oversubscribed but they added a form last year and all applicants got a place.

@Spinningaround18 - I hear you, 2 of my choices have wraparound care & 2 have no provision.
The school allocated makes such a difference practically - school runs, wraparound care & holiday clubs! Then there's all the reasons why it's a good fit for the child! 🤞

@user64325 - fingers crossed it's midnight! Sounds tricky that the house move was delayed. Good that it's a positive focus. I'm focusing on renovating my house - great distraction!

You don't consider all this before you have kids, do you 🙊 in a way I wish they just allocated you a school based on your address to save all this stress!

user64325 · 14/04/2021 22:19

A Spanish mum I know always says that @Spinningaround18 that where she is from in Spain, kids always go to their neighbourhood school automatically, and consequently the intake in schools is evenly mixed. The catchment system should work the same way here but it clearly doesn't.

We don't even have the catchment system here (Lancashire way) so it's all just done on distance - wish I'd thought about this when we bought our current house!
RachelSq · 15/04/2021 10:41

No catchment area can make things much more unpredictable, especially if there’s lots of siblings.

All systems have their own downsides and I know there’s a ‘black spot’ in the middle of a triangle of primary schools near me (they use distance only) where it’s unlikely you’d get a place in any of the three schools and have to travel miles away to very unpopular schools. It’s become a huge issue and people with kids that are in the know only buy houses there after sibling 1 is in a school....

HolmeH · 15/04/2021 19:29

I didn’t know some places didn’t have catchments, I thought that was the norm in England! I kinda wish ours was distance as our first choice is equidistant to our catchment school! In terms of travelling too it, it’s actually far easier to walk too than catchment as well. But 1st choice catchment is tiny so I’m hoping so much we squeeze in on distance outside catchment anyway 😬🙏🏼

I’ve got no idea when ours are released, but I’m waiting up until after midnight to check as I’ll not really be sleeping well anyway!

TheGriffle · 15/04/2021 20:09

I’m waiting to see if dd2 gets in our current school with a sibling place. The school dd1 is already in isnt in our catchment but is undersubscribed (I think? Not enough right aged kids in catchment so they take children from further out) so hopefully we should have no trouble getting a place but you just don’t know do you!

feliznavidad2 · 15/04/2021 20:10

Ours have been released early...

TheGriffle · 15/04/2021 20:12

I wish ours were! I’ve just checked and nothing yet.

Did you get your choice @feliznavidad2?

feliznavidad2 · 15/04/2021 20:14

Yes! 🙌🏻 I'm overjoyed.

Fingers crossed for you.

OverTheRainbow88 · 15/04/2021 20:16

I didn’t realise you could apply for 4 schools!

Libertinex · 15/04/2021 20:28

Good luck everyone!

Buckinghamshire Council send emails from 11am and allow you to log into the portal from 2pm.

Does anyone know when Maidenhead & Windsor Council release their allocations?

EduCated · 15/04/2021 20:35

@OverTheRainbow88

I didn’t realise you could apply for 4 schools!
It varies by area. I believe the majority of the country can list 3 preferences, some areas 4, and London areas 6. Its set by the local authority.
BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 15/04/2021 20:51

On the off chance any of you are Warwickshire, I just logged on, on the off chance & they're out!! We got our first choice, I'm very relieved & am now off for a nice relaxing shower.

National Offer Day!
Libertinex · 15/04/2021 20:59

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 15/04/2021 21:09
