3+ 4+ 5+ 7+ Support thread 2019

mumteacher · 29/09/2018 23:54

In previous years I have started these threads to help and support all those involved in the independent school admissions process.

I wasn't going to start one this year as I know I would not be able to check back on it as regularly as I would like, which then defeats the purpose of the thread.

However, after numerous positive PM's about the threads I think it would be a shame not to start one where at least the hand holding can continue. 🤝

There are many many people who have been through the process and 'live to tell the tale' . There are also other tutors I know who read this thread and it would be great if you all could help and support and share your ideas👏🏼

(Roll on 2019!) 😉

Hi..My daughter has been put on the 4 plus reserve list for Habs girls. Does anyone know how many girls are usually waitlisted and what our chances are?

user1471555162 · 29/01/2019 14:29

Got into St Helen's 4plus, very pleased.

kyra3108 · 29/01/2019 15:53

DD has got offers from NLCS and HABS and we are not sure which one to go for. Any opinions/views on this would be much appreciated.

horsemadmom · 29/01/2019 16:10

Look at the coach routes. Also, have a think about how much you'll want to or be able to pick up from Habs from sport, music, club activities in future. Both have excellent academics with very different feel.

nldnmum · 29/01/2019 16:39

@kyra3108 congrats to your DD! We got habs and nlcs offers as well plus Highgate. We are pretty far from habs and nlcs though and coach routes from us would be 7:30am pick up everyday ConfusedUnbearable to think of doing that for ten years unless we move, which we have no inclination too. So we are leaning towards Highgate.

If I was to decide between habs and nlcs, I would see what my child is like, super academic and competitive or more chilled.
My DD1 is very academic and competitive so I probably would have nlcs over habs. But if it was for my DD2 who is more chilled, I probably would prefer habs for her

Well done to all the mums and the little ones! We're are fairly new to NLondon but were drawn by the brilliant schools. We got habs and a waitlist for NCLS and a no from Channing. In terms of the schools we would have loved NCLS. It is a little further out for us but I think it is well worth it for the quality it offers. I am a little surprised that so many of you are wanting to give up your place we would gladly have it!
Does anyone know how many waitlists for NCLS there were- ie what are the chances. Also does anyone know if they over-offered in the first place.

remp · 29/01/2019 17:49

hi litan8, similar situation here for the 7+. Happy to discuss and share impressions (just pm'ed you).

Bumblebeeeee · 29/01/2019 19:09

Hi lonmum1234 we are the other way round! Loved Habs much more and the green spaces and travel to school we great, the head really impressed us. So tricky isn't it? I think commute will be the ultimate decider.

lonmum1234 · 29/01/2019 20:15

@bumblebeeee you're are so right. It's crazy... We should swap Smile!

@horsemadmum..... was just wondering from your experience...do ncls over offer and then have a waiting list or do they offer 40 and wait list the rest. All this secrecy makes thing so confusing! If so how many do they tend to over offer by

Hereshope · 29/01/2019 20:27

@horsemadmum

Also..do you have any knowledge of how the Habs waiting list works? How much do they over offer by and how many do they waitlist? Trying to work out our chances. I didn’t sit my daughter for NLCS and desperate for Habs!

whatisit12345 · 29/01/2019 20:36

We have got Highgate and Habs 7+ and now very confused as to which one to go for! Any thoughts will be good to have ...

butterstone · 29/01/2019 22:00

@whatisit12345

that's great! is that for Habs girls or boys school?

Personally i think a co-ed environment would be preferable esp in the early developmental years in a junior school...

wishthiswasmorefun · 29/01/2019 22:05

Hi was hoping to get some advice, am in waitlist purgatory at Westminster under-should I just accept this is meaningless...as no one declines? All virgin territory and have no other offers...and the DS’s school ends this year! Stupid, doesn’t begin to describe it...

wishthiswasmorefun · 29/01/2019 22:10

Us

whatisit12345 · 30/01/2019 00:12

Butterstone it is for girls school ...

Fitnessfanatic108 · 30/01/2019 00:48

@kyra3108 congratulations! not sure what other factors are in the mix for you .... i have a daughter at nlcs and at habs - must say nlcs in terms of a junior school education wins hands down. on every level x

Fitnessfanatic108 · 30/01/2019 00:52

lonmum1234 nlcs do over offer and run a fairly small reserve list

i know three that are turning habs 4+ down for nlcs so shld free up sone room at habs

lonmum1234 · 30/01/2019 02:47

@fitness fanatic 108. Thank you for the info. So do you mean they over offer by a lot meaning they often don't go into the reserve list or that they do often take from the reserve list?

Stressedmum2019 · 30/01/2019 08:24

Has anyone heard of people turning down acceptance places at ucs 7 plus? Or how long their reserve list normally is?

Skimmedmilk1 · 30/01/2019 11:15

@wishthiswasmorefun

unlikely to move I'd think at St Pauls offered before Xmas this year and most that turn down WUS will do so for St Pauls

@Stressedmum2019

big waiting list, a fair few will turn down for Habs and Highgate

Stressedmum2019 · 30/01/2019 11:21

Do say big??? Do you know how big?

wishthiswasmorefun · 30/01/2019 11:35

Thank you Stressed mum...have to gird my loins for the 8+...

wishthiswasmorefun · 30/01/2019 11:38

Sounds like WUS know their numbers are in in that case-feel such an idiot!
