Wondered if anyone else out there fancies a school starters thread for this September?

I'm feeling slightly pathetic about DTs starting Reception in September; they've been in nursery for years but I'm still prone to a little weep at my babies growing up when I peek at their uniforms!

I'll join you! How old are your DTs? DD is still 3, 4 at the end of August. She's also been in nursery for ages but I'm it's such a big change!

Have you got old their uniform? How do they feel about starting? DD is excited and prancing about in her uniform most days this summer...

Yay, thanks for joining me tootwee!

DTs will be 5 in November so they're very ready, but they're quite small for their age and look so little and drowned in their uniforms. Yep, I've got all the uniform sorted, but they're definitely not allowed to wear it yet; it cost a small fortune and I want it looking brand new for a week at least! They look adorable in their uniforms, but if I had my way they'd still be in babygros! ...PFBs! Have you got older DC at the school already?

They are excited though, and they're going with some friends from the neighbourhood and their nursery so they'll be completely fine, I'm much more worried than they are!

My DTs (just turned 4 a few weeks back) are starting Reception in a few weeks. They were at the school nursery though so know their way around and have a few friends in each of their classes so i think they will be fine.

I'm a bit worried about one of them falling asleep in the afternoon as it's a really long day (8.45 until 3.20) but I've been assured that the book corner is very comfy for a quick nap .

DH has taken the day off work so we can take them and pick them up on their first day not at all so we can sneak off and have lunch on our own so i think he might shed a few tears as he is a big softie.

My DD2 starts school in a couple of weeks. It coincides with me going back to work full time (for the last 5 years I've been working from home during school hours). So not only will she have to cope with a new school routine, she will also be in breakfast club from 7.45 and then with a childminder until I collect her after work.

She's very excited to be at the same school as her older sister but I feel dreadfully guilty that I won't be around as much as I was when her sister started school and will miss the daily interaction with her teacher.

She's an Autumn born so she is old enough to cope I think but she is still SO petite even though she's almost 5. All of her new uniform is 3-4 and I had a real job finding school shoes in a size 6.5! Uniform is mostly all sorted though I have a few name tapes still to sew in.

Dd1 starts in 2w at 4.3yo. Quite anxious as she is challenging. She has a staggered start so 9-11:30 first 2 weeks.

It's so exciting isn't it! Elodie you definitely have the right idea with saving the school uniform for the first day. DD's white PE polo already has chocolate stains! I'll need to have a go at it with vanish. We bought a lot of second hand stuff though so none of it is pristine...

Roughmagic my DD will experience a patchwork of before and after school care arrangements... Hope she'll be ok, I'm trying to reduce my hours but we will see how it goes. I'm reliably assured though that I won't miss out too much by not being at the school gate every day..

DD is also absolutely tiny. I think she could actually fit into her book bag

My DD starts in September. I'm worried about how much DS will miss her on my days off and at nursery.

DD is very tall so just looks like she should have been in uniform for a few years.

My baby starts too. She was 4 in Jan so at the older end of the year. She's very ready for school. I'm not...

My DS starts in September too, my third one to go but my last and my youngest, only turned 4 at the very end of July.
He's looking forward to it and to be honest so am I, although a little unsure how he will cope. He's ready in most ways but still seems emotionally younger than he should.

Can't wait to take those special pictures tho.

My little one is starting too - she'll be 4.5ish and is counting down to September with great enthusiasm. She will be at the same school as her big brother, and a good group of preschool friends, and they also had lots of visits last term. So hopefully nothing too surprising for her.

I'm just a bit nervous about how it will work for her academically, she is very enthusiastic there too and I don't know if she may be thrown by having to start from a-is-for-apple again.

Uniform is a bit huge - she didn't fit in 5-6 size jumper so had to have 7-8 size, the same as her big brother! Oh well it may come in handy if she gets paint on all hers.

Yep me too. Our daughter was 4 in July so still seems young but is very excited and has been at nursery. I do worry that she's going to get frustrated with others being "ahead" of her due to being almost a year older than her xx

Anyone else's DC going to a school where they don't know anyone? DD has been at private (not school) nursery and none of her friends from there are going to the same school. I'm hoping that she'll make some new friends fairly quickly!

My son doesn't know anyone from his new school - but he (unlike me) is reasonably outgoing and should make friends quite quickly.

I am a bit nervous. We'll be getting the bus to and from school (not, like, miles and miles but far enough) whereas we used to walk to and from nursery.

Not my current school starter Twee but DD1 was in that situation. We'd moved house so everything about her new school was unfamiliar. She settled in really quickly and made friends without any problems.

Oh that's reassuring Rough, thank you. And Cru sounds like your DS will be just fine! I know how you feel though...

DD is vey confident and outgoing at nursery, but she's been there since she was 1! I just don't know how she will feel in a completely new environment. Thankfully the school seems really focused on teaching kindness etc so fingers crossed it'll all be fine!

Her nursery going but the other 4 are all in one class and she's in another.

My ds doesn't know anyone. Does from other classes but I don't think they have much whole school interaction at first. It took him 12 months to get used to nursery so I do think there will be a few tears along the way.

Yay! Hi all! So glad I’m not alone in feeling quite worried about this step.

We’re planning to do the same Pengweng, I have an antenatal appointment that afternoon and if it runs over I’ll struggle to be there for pick up but DP will definitely be able to do both.

RoughMagic I know what you mean – I’m really aware of all the change at once for my DTs too; we’re also moving their bedroom and have a new baby on the way so there’s a lot going on in their little worlds. Lots of children do go to breakfast club and have childminders though so she won’t be alone. Will she be with her sister at those things too?

Catkind, mine had taster days and visits last term too, but no staggered start in September so they’ll be straight in at the deep end in terms of full days. Having said that, the childcare arrangements for a staggered start must be a nightmare Naty.

The younger ones will soon catch up beanhunter and you won’t be able to tell the difference soon.

Aww mog, a few tears along the way are inevitable I guess, poor little mites though – it’s a lot to take it and they seem so little still.

I know this is random but do any of you know whether we have to send them in with stationary? My Mum said Yes so I've pulled together a pencil case, ruler, pencils and pen. However, I think her opinion may be based on what schools in the US do.

We were told not to send any stationery with reception age children. Aparently the school are quite specific about what they need to use.

Me too - nervous child and nervous mum as nursery has been a massive struggle (anxiety and very young for age)! Hand holding would be nice

Caster, fwiw my older DS was similar about nursery, but loved school from the start. Hope it works the same for your DD.
