September 2016 school starters

Wondered if anyone else out there fancies a school starters thread for this September?

I'm feeling slightly pathetic about DTs starting Reception in September; they've been in nursery for years but I'm still prone to a little weep at my babies growing up when I peek at their uniforms!

We (dh, I and their nursery teacher) decided to split them up purely because they are so so different and the nursery teacher thought that they would each benefit from the different personalities of the reception teachers. They do like to check in with each other occasionally but the reception classes are right next door to each other and it's very free flow anyway so they will still see each other a lot. Their playground is also joined with the nursery one so they all play together during break etc (after the first half term, at the start nursery are kept separate to allow them to settle in).
I still change my mind daily if it was right to separate them though. Haha

It's tomorrow. Last nursery dropoff this morning.

I’m clinging onto those early bed times bigfam, not ready to share my whole evening just yet! Sorry to hear they couldn’t sort out your DS’ tooth there and then, poor boy. Fingers crossed the amoxicillin does the trick and they can do it on Saturday! Hope he’s feeling ok otherwise.

Good work on badges plant, surely they’ll get it right with all those clues!

It’s such a hard decision isn’t it pengweng! I’m not sure there’s a right or wrong answer, you just have to do what’s best for the individual children.

Have any of you seen the back to school feast thing? I think it’s an American idea, but it’s a tradition we’re going to try and start in our family. Most of the examples I’ve seen on blogs etc are religious, but I like the idea of having a family theme for the year. Ours won’t be anything too heavy or fancy as I’m frantically trying to pull everything together over the next few days ready for Saturday… I’ll let you know how it goes!

DT is coming home today, just in time! Grin

We are in Scotland, so we have been back just over a week now. DS started P1 last Monday so we are in our second week of half days, today we go in early to have lunch with them so we can see what they are having etc. DS is loving it, but the swap from PM nursery to M school has him a bit tired & grumpy.

LuchiMangsho · 31/08/2016 12:30

We start next week on Tuesday. He was at the school nursery so should be comfortable. Jan birthday so more than ready although the long days I am sure will be knackering. He's very excited although quite shy and takes his time over making friends. I told his nursery teachers that when he was settled he wouldn't shut up- it took a term to come out of his shell but by the end he was doing really well. We have also had play dates with some of his new classmates and those from his nursery so it shouldn't be too bad.
I work full time but flexibly so should be able to drop off in the mornings and pick up at least twice a week.

Bigfam · 31/08/2016 13:30

LuchiMangsho January birthday here too

drspouse · 01/09/2016 11:15

First day, no tears (though I was close) apart from DD who is 2 and desperately wanted to go in with DS!

Very cute drspouse, how's it been?

My girls are now beyond excited, they're going to be shattered by Monday at this rate!

Well done to those who've started and good luck all to those who haven't yet

Would like to hear your thoughts about St Thomas More Primary Catholic School as my kid will be starting this month in this school.

Idliketobeabutterfly · 02/09/2016 14:02

User might be easier as a separate thread

drspouse · 02/09/2016 16:12

I imagine there's quite a lot of schools with that name!
DS seems to be enjoying it but not surprisingly is knackered even after 3 hours. Also some hitting/kicking/pushing after pickup time which is something we struggle with anyway.
He's been quite clingy this afternoon but not in a bad way and that's understandable.

Bigfam · 02/09/2016 17:14

drspouse dd was like this on her longer nursery days. Glad he's enjoying himself though. Still a week to go here (for dd2), although dd1 & ds go back tuesday.

catkind · 02/09/2016 19:08

Labelling labelling labelling.
Think we might have over-estimated growing room for pinafores. Kids who wear skirts/dresses, what length do you buy them? We haven't had to deal with skirts before!

Bigfam · 02/09/2016 20:29

Dd2's skirt is just above her knee provided she doesn't pull it up past her belly button like she does with other skirts

We've not used labels, just penning the names in. Things always end up missing regardless (sigh)

ceeveebee · 02/09/2016 20:52

DDs pinafores are just over her knee - she is a shortie and I probably could have got her age 3-4 but I want them to last all year!

catkind · 02/09/2016 21:33

An inch or so below the knee here. It doesn't look quite right. Ah well, either they'll shrink or she'll grow.

I've sewn labels into jumpers and written in them too to be as obvious as possible. Ditto on always going missing. Written in most of the rest.

slightlyglitterbrained · 04/09/2016 09:58

Still haven't coaxed DS into school uniform. Anyone got any suggestions for books/films/tv episodes that include children going to school and putting uniform on? Often helps to tackle things a bit indirectly with DS rather than head on.

Peppa Pig and Nemo don't wear uniform to school so no help there...

catkind · 04/09/2016 10:01

Topsy and Tim? If you can stand them, they rather irritate me.

MiaowTheCat haha, smart answer though.

Dd2 is a smart arse as well, not sure where she gets it from though. She is the polar opposite to dd1. Dd2's teacher kept telling me she couldn't wait to teach her (she also taught dd1 3 years ago and ds 2 years ago) I told her she'd regret it & that ds (who was relatively naughty) is a dream compared to her. She still doesn't believe me but she will soon enough! Grin

Bigfam · 06/09/2016 11:24

Just found out this morning dd2 wont be starting til the 14th Shock she's been off since june the 20(something) too.
She is not impressed Grin
