3+ 4+ 5+ 7+ support thread 2015

I started the below thread last year and have had so many people find it useful I thought it might be worth doing it again.

I have had a number of messages asking if I have any spaces in my classes. I'm really sorry but I have been at full capacity for some time now.

However, I do appreciate that this is a very stressful time of year for parents who have children sitting these private school assessments in January. So, I'm hoping that by setting up this support group thread I can help by answering some questions you have about these assessments.

Hopefully this thread will also contain some useful insight from the experiences of parents who have already been through the process.

habs 4+

the people who got offers have a while to reject. Once they do they will go onto the waiting list, depends how far down you are on that waiting list?

hertsmummy1979 · 03/02/2015 13:10

did you get hABS 4+?

Only4Child · 03/02/2015 13:12

Yes - Habs 4+. No clue how far down the reserve list we are. Is that even information they will divulge?

sunnyriver25 · 03/02/2015 13:32

Hi all,

My DS will be sitting 8+ cc exam in 2016, I really need help to coach him .Advise will be appreciated :)

hello23 · 03/02/2015 13:48

Apparently NLCS does not have a reserve system. Wait list for next year at 5+

4PlusMum · 03/02/2015 14:06

That is not correct. There is definitely a reserve list for NLCS and there is no 5+ entry at NLCS.

hello23 · 03/02/2015 14:34

Hi 4plus. Thank you for confirming. Do you know how to get on the reserve list?

4PlusMum · 03/02/2015 14:42

You can't. The school has already decided who is on the reserve list and informed those families that their daughters have been waitlisted. If a place becomes available then it will be allocated to those who are already on the list. Unfortunately, if you have received a 'no' there is nothing you can do except focus on finding another wonderful school for your DD and maybe try again at 7+ of 11+.

hello23 · 03/02/2015 14:46

Ah right - thanks for this. We didn't make the wait list either

letsplayscrabble · 03/02/2015 14:56

Yes I'd agree - NLCS offer a "yes" "wait list" or "no". A no won't turn into a wait list unfortunately.

mumteacher · 03/02/2015 19:58

Congratulations for all those who got positive news today.
Good luck to those still waiting! The last few days are always the hardest.

As has already been said Nlcs offers yes, no and wait list offers only.
Girls on the wait list maybe offered a place if someone from the yes list turns down their offer.
This is for the 4+. And usually there is movement at 4+ on the wait list so hang in there!
There is no way of knowing how far down the list you are.
Fir the 7+ there is a girl or two on the edit list but my experience has been that the wait list doesn't result in as much movement as the 4+.

And there is no standard assessment at Nlcs for 5+. They only test occasional if there is someone leaving.

Good luck to all those on waiting lists - the end is in sight!

Hi mumteacher! Do you know if there's been any movement on the wait list for Habs 4+ so far? Has anyone on the list got an offer yet?

mumteacher · 05/02/2015 11:10

No not yet. They'll wait till the deadline and have had all the replies back before opening on the wait list.

I do know two of my students will be turning down Habs so there will be at least two places up for grabs.

MortaIWombat · 05/02/2015 13:26

Only if they don't over-offer, surely? And I thought everywhere over-offered. Confused

letsplayscrabble · 05/02/2015 15:58

NLCS say that they don't over-offer, as they are often first choice and don't want to end up with more than they have space for. I'd imagine Habs would be similar.

MortaIWombat · 05/02/2015 16:19

Ah, I see. In the wilds of South London here, where JAPS, AJS, etc over-offer as they have the same pool of candidates and are pretty much equally popular.

Only4Child · 05/02/2015 16:21

Oooh mumteacher - you are heaven sent. Let's get past this weekend and hope some good news is on it's way to everyone still waiting :)

hello23 · 05/02/2015 16:41

Hi mumteacher. PLS can you send me your details. Need help for next year. Thanks!

mumteacher · 05/02/2015 21:09

Only4child fingers crossed for you x

Not sure how helpful this is but my DD sat 7+ 2 years ago. She was wait listed for Habs and was offered a place I think on the Friday (ie equivalent of 6th feb this year). We had already accepted a place at NLCS.

I am aware that 3 girls for 7+ got into both NLCS and Habs this year and are taking NLCS which means at least 3 on the wait list for Habs this year will be offered.

HTH

4PlusMum · 06/02/2015 15:10

Anyone heard anything about Habs 5+ yet? Going....slowly.....c r a z y!!!

Ilovemykids33 · 07/02/2015 09:31

Good luck 5+ people...

4PlusMum · 07/02/2015 13:29

Just accosted the postman in the street. It was good news for Habs 5+. I just can' believe it!
