3+ 4+ 5+ 7+ support thread 2015

I started the below thread last year and have had so many people find it useful I thought it might be worth doing it again.

I have had a number of messages asking if I have any spaces in my classes. I'm really sorry but I have been at full capacity for some time now.

However, I do appreciate that this is a very stressful time of year for parents who have children sitting these private school assessments in January. So, I'm hoping that by setting up this support group thread I can help by answering some questions you have about these assessments.

Hopefully this thread will also contain some useful insight from the experiences of parents who have already been through the process.

Hooray for you, 4PlusMum. Time to think of a new name now. Haha

examnewbie · 08/02/2015 21:45

Congratulations 4plusMum your daughter will have a ball there.

Oh I've enjoyed reading this thread! Brought back so many memories - this was me a year ago - the stress, the sleepless nights! I was on here desperate to get dd through and got so much advice and tips. For those asking for a tutor, I was recommended someone off here and am happy to pass on details (she doesn't post on here all the time though). I know she prepares for 4,5,7 and 11+ assessments. My dd loved her and am absolutely convinced dd wouldn't have got our first choice if it wasn't for all the support and advice we received from her. Good luck to everyone still waiting - it's THE best feeling when it's over and you're waving them off at the school gates (albeit misty eyed!)

bringon2015 · 09/02/2015 21:30

obsessedwithinteriors please could you pass on the tutor's details. I am currently looking for a tutor for the 5+ in 2016.

Nuttyma · 10/02/2015 03:05

Hi all. I would really like details of anyone who could help with 5+ at a Herts school. Thank you for opening this thread. I have been desperately looking for some guidance.

Adimom · 10/02/2015 08:22

@obsessedwithinteriors, Thanks for the information. Can you send me the details of the tutor. I am looking at tutor for 5+ in 2016. Thanks.

obsessedwithinteriors · 10/02/2015 20:37

I've responded to all the pm's. If you want her details, pm me as I don't have the time to monitor this thread, so won't keep track on who's posted on here for details.

Glad to know I wasn't the only one obsessing over this - lol!

I have followed this thread with interest as my DD has just (successfully) completed the 4+ at Habs. Although the support provided by other parents has been invaluable, the help from mumteacher has been conspicuous by its absence once again, yet here she goes trawling for business using posters such as Aarmum to do her bidding for her.

We used a fabulous tutor (based in Herts) and I would be happy to provide her details to anyone facing 3+, 4+ or 5+ in 2016. Please PM me if you would like further details.

Hi, is anybody here on the UCS reserve list for 7+? How does it work? Would be grateful for some help I have been looking but I did not find anything.

NorthLondonMum2 · 11/02/2015 19:11

As a parent of daughters in a top girls school in North London, I'm strongly against the use of tutors to help children get into these highly competitive schools. It is not fair to parents with kids already in schools. We want our children to be with naturally bright kids, not those who get in with the help of tutors. It is also not fair for parents who choose not to use tutors or who just find tutors too expensive.

4PlusMum · 12/02/2015 17:07

What makes you think that your children are any brighter that those who have been tutored?

Aarmum · 12/02/2015 17:44

Would like to recommend brightideas as a tutor for anyone looking for a tutor .
Excellent professional tutor who is very caring and keen on the student skill development.

My son was successful in 4+ assessments he took and a very big thank you goes to brightideas for preparing him.
My son's confidence significant improved along with his verbal skills.

I will continue to have brightideas as my son's tutor and mentor as it takes a big heart to change a little one's heart.
I would definitely check her availability if anyone is looking for a good reliable tutor .Smile

FrankWelker · 12/02/2015 18:43

Aarmum- didn't you write this about mumteacher yesterday before getting mumsnet to delete your post????

Aarmum · 12/02/2015 19:09

Frankwelker,
I did post about mummteacher by error. It was brightideas that I wanted to post about . But got the MN names wrong.Hence had to take out the post and repost.
Apologies for the confusion .

FrankWelker · 12/02/2015 19:31

No worries! Unlike mumteacher, brightideas has actually been very helpful!

lovedimsum · 17/02/2015 18:27

Hi, has anyone got an offer from St Margaret's hampstead for reception yet? Thanks

vvnsmum · 17/02/2015 19:18

lovedimsum - my daughter got an offer from St Margaret's Hampstead, but we opted for another school instead.

lovedimsum · 17/02/2015 19:33

Thanks vvnsmum- do you mind me asking when they offered you the place and was it by email or letter? Thanks!! We were a late registration so not sure whether we have missed out or not.

mommyabby · 19/02/2015 13:53

mommyabby · 20/02/2015 10:47

Ilovemykids33 · 22/02/2015 20:32

Long shot but does anyone know of any other girls who are going to Habs from N20? My dd will be starting year 1 in September.. Thanks.

letsplayscrabble · 23/02/2015 23:18

My daughter used to be at St. Margaret's, the offer came by email followed up by a letter in the post.

Yeeyin · 05/08/2015 00:32

mumteacher

I have read in your previous threads which mentioning teddy bear picnic for 4+ assessment. Is that the song that you refer to? or is that a specific book?

Also, my little girl is due for 4+ assessment in October (she's a February baby). She is a bright and happy girl (I think)...She knows the basic shapes, alphabets, numbers etc but she is very shy and I am not sure how to help her in her assessment. She probably will just sit very quietly during the assesment.

Not sure if you can help in anyway
