Why are teachers so patronising?

I am a 42 year old mother of two. I am often judged on my looks and did model while I completed my Masters.

The teachers at my youngest's school talk to my husband and I as if we have learning difficulties. I am going to start the next term just doing the same back unless anyone can offer me an explanation?

I have an older child (12). The baby is now in reception. I have been quite forthcoming about my career as has my husband. We earn much more than teachers. They actually said 'well done' to us for taking some photos of the boy looking at autumn toadstools during our usual weekend dog walk. Then they clapped. They also have given me no progress report for my child since he started Reception in September. We both work and they only meet with parents/ have open events between 9 and 3.

I've met a lot of teachers and those with talent and integrity aren't like this. [edited by MNHQ] Do feel free to call them up to experience that unique 'you've got special needs' approach to communications first hand.

In the meantime, what do I do?

May I add my congratulations on earning more than teachers, that makes you so much better than them doesn't it.

And thanks for giving me a good laugh when I can't sleep.

singarainbow · 22/12/2013 04:09

It's school holidays, do nothing. Relax and enjoy the break Xmas Smile

NigellasDealer · 22/12/2013 04:13

I could possibly have related to what you were saying but do not see what your looks or earnings have to do with it.
do you mean if you were plain and earnt less than them, it would be OK?

MrsChristmasBungle · 22/12/2013 04:14

Are you drunk?! Grin

I suppose my advice would be if you don't like the way they are communicating with you, tell them.

Sirzy · 22/12/2013 04:14

Sounds like your just busy looking down your nose at the teachers tbh.

Not sure why what you earn is relevant at all.

oldbaghere · 22/12/2013 04:21

If they're in reception they're not a baby.

If you were a munter and skint would they be more pleasant do you think?

MidniteScribbler · 22/12/2013 04:42

I can't imagine why you think the teachers don't like you. Baffling, really.

Just what I needed before work today- a good laugh!

Seriously OP, sounds like you need to pull your head out of your backside. They probably speak to you like it just to see the look on your snooty face.

Enjoy the Christmas break!

Onesleeptillwembley · 22/12/2013 07:38

What can you do? I'd love to tell you.....

AuntieBrenda · 22/12/2013 07:41

Right, realistically, please just say something.

Would it be possible to get a progress report for my child? As I work, i don't get to pop in and chat so I would like to make an appointment with you to discuss how X is getting on.

JollyGolightly · 22/12/2013 07:56

I hope they're getting as much enjoyment out of it as I am reading your account.

Snargaluff · 22/12/2013 07:58

Ha!

Snargaluff · 22/12/2013 07:59

Also not that hard to earn much more than teachers

noblegiraffe · 22/12/2013 08:04

I have been quite forthcoming about my career as has my husband

Maybe you could have spent that time discussing your child's progress instead.

adoptmama · 22/12/2013 08:09

Why are teachers so patronising....

You have been 'forthcoming' about your career, modelling and the fact you earn more than teachers do.

That a) doesn't make you their superior

And b) probably explains why they don't like you.

If you are a genuine parent - which I sincerely doubt as I struggle to accept anyone could make a post like this for real - then you clearly do deserve to be spoken to slowly, clearly and in words of one syllable. Do you realise by naming the school and providing the information you have, that you have made you children and yourself identifiable to all the staff at the school?

Whilst you may not mind highlighting the fact you are a shallow moron to your school community, your kids probably do.

Hilarious. If you're a model, surely you could pop away inbetween shoots? It's not a 9-5 is it? Failing that ask for a later/ earlier appointment.

Twighlightsparkle · 22/12/2013 08:17

How do these people think up such posts!

Deary me. Not particularly imaginative though, but not bad for 4am.

LaurieFairyCake · 22/12/2013 08:22

They are so going to work out who you are Grin

This will go viral and be in the Daily Fail

vestandknickers · 22/12/2013 08:26

Ha Ha hilarious!

It should be "When teachers talk to my husband and me" by the way.

Absolute puzzler why the teachers think you're not that bright.

Well done on earning so much money though.

SeaDevilscanPlay · 22/12/2013 08:29

Have you realised how patronising you sound??

LaurieFairyCake · 22/12/2013 08:33

If you're so wealthy why aren't your kids at some posho school?

Instead of a bog standard primary in a rough-ish town.

Do you live near there instead of somewhere nice like Bromham?

NearTheWindmill · 22/12/2013 08:34

Oh dear. How were they with your other children and did your other children get at least L4's at the end of KS2? Why can't you take a day off once a term so you can interact with the school?

TSSDNCOP · 22/12/2013 08:41

I think it happens when you are really, really good looking and rich that people think you're a bit of a wanker. It's a cross.

You need a plan OP. what about taking some time off to make that semi annual 20 minute parents meeting?

And as to your comment about "special needs" that makes you a particular kind of c*nt really.

missinglalaland · 22/12/2013 08:48

Um, just had a horrible thought. Maybe somebody wrote this up maliciously in order to stitch up some other parent at their school and make them look a fool for posting this.
