Ds goes to swimming, in the class is another boy who he likes. I was chatting to this boy's mum, who I have not spoken to before. She asks me what school ds is at so I tell her. It's a private school and she replied - I don't agree with private schools.

What should I have said? I cannot believe how socially acceptable this sort of prejudice is, she just said it in earshot of plenty of other people so clearly she didn't mind who heard.

I imagine if this had been the other way round and I asked her what school her ds went to and then said, well I don't agree with state schools (not my view obv!) that she would have had a go at me and probably so would people overhearing!

Yes, I think i actually remember your thread, TAOB! My biggest issue with UQD and his cronies on many of those threads was his inability to concede that for some children with sn, state school simply doesn't work.
I remember the hounding of smallwhitecat and I never saw her post after that thread! It was awful! She had all her posts deleted as she became very upset at being derided for sending her DS who has moderate/severe asd to an asd specific independent school.
It was unacceptable.

strictlovingmum · 27/10/2012 23:22

No resentment here, one is 18 and one is 6, their age, ability and needs are very different.
DS scientifically inclined much better suited to a excellent state 6th form where he is atm.
DD had issues with hearing, now resolved was and is much better suited to the school where she is now.
Unless very close in age I am of the opinion that siblings don't have to be at the same school, but rather in schools which suits them best, works for us.

Yes peas, where he'd been himself after his grammar school education. Socialist principles with regards education are all too easy when you're Oxbridge educated, live in a leafy affluent part of his particular city and have 2 bright, feisty dds at an excellent state school.

Toughasoldboots. I think your post is very apt because people on here so casually and cruelly slag off other people's choices not realising how hugely hurtful it can be.

peasabovesticks · 27/10/2012 23:29

Totally agree Lovingthecoast. And he insisted that evening meals should be called 'dinner' not 'tea'. Tosser Hmm Grin

I remember smallwhitecat too. She was slated for her choice of school. Is she not here any more Sad

Lovingthecoast · 27/10/2012 23:31

Glad your dd is doing better, tough!
I think I will report my last post as it is coming close to being personal which doesn't sit easy with me. I may not agree with said posters pov and more importantly his stance that sn is irrelevant to the debate but his personal circs shouldn't be banded sbout casually.

I must go to bed! With the clocks and all, I have 4 kids who will rise somewhere between 5.30 and 6.30!
Night all!

peasabovesticks · 27/10/2012 23:38

Me too. I have a rugby tournament to watch tomorrow. And the forecast is that it'll piss down all day Hmm

Just to add re swc; I know she had all her posts deleted after that and I haven't seen her post since though she may have namechanged.

peasabovesticks · 27/10/2012 23:40

Don't know why we we do it Toughasoldboots!

amillionyears · 27/10/2012 23:40

There have been so many "casualties"
Is it safe to stay? Shock

Sonnet · 27/10/2012 23:41

Do you know that I never intended to pay for a 'superior education' Confused just a 'different ' one. Mn has enlightened me Grin

Op you need to accept that your choice not your words are unintentionally upsetting people. If you are in this for the long term then shrug and move on when you meet someone who states their views so rudely. You Are unable to justify it and why should you. There are some fantastic advocates of the state system on mn and some rude ones who deserve to be ignored.
Shrug and ignore. Do the best for your dc that YOU are able to.

Lovingthecoast · 27/10/2012 23:44

Oh and strictlovingmum, I average about 20 mths between children so in our case, there definitely would be resentment from the other 3.
Right, definitely off to bed now!
