Primary school places !!!

Is anyone getting nervous for the primary school places next week? It's all I can thunk about now , the 18th simply can't get here soon enough , I would be happy if my DS got any of his 3 choices but does anyone have any idea of his chances if getting in one of them if they are all within a radius if one and a half miles from our home. My ideal choice would his first choice which is a catholic school which is 0.6 miles from home but is always oversubscribed, we attend mass every week and had all forms signed by the priest etc but don't know how much of a chance he has if getting it , any advice would be great as am worrying alot now the date is getting nearer.

Thanks for reading and sorry for rambling xxx

Knowing my postman it could be the day after tomorrow anyway AThing as he has a habit of always coming to deliver to my house via Timbucktoo! I never seen to get post when I expect to.

Hope tomorrows post goes well for you.

Want2bSupermum · 17/04/2012 21:23

I couldn't believe it this weekend when my sisters friend told me that there was little chance of their son getting into their local primary. They live one street away, about 200m from the school gates. Apparently this isn't close enough. I find it incredible that you can be so close yet too far!

Glittertwins · 17/04/2012 21:27

I do know someone who this happened to supermum :(

sunnyday123 · 17/04/2012 21:27

2 CofE schools near me take 30 per year but can have 24/25 siblings so doesnt leave many places left... - maybe a similar situation

pussycatmum · 17/04/2012 21:27

Ditto, apart from church stuff. Hoping we can get in via catchment area alone.....

lightningmum · 17/04/2012 21:30

Good luck everyone!

Does anyone know (roughly) what time the email will come?

laughinglil · 17/04/2012 21:36

Can someone help me please? So here where I live (essex) siblings are priority so would that mean that my dd would have a better chance of getting a place than someone with no siblings but live nearer to the school?

skinmysunshine · 17/04/2012 21:39

Ok having been through this before I think it is emails tomorrow and post the day after. I am equally nervous although DD, as a sibling, should hopefully get into her DB's school. Given that we were offered no places for DS 2 years ago means I am not counting my chickens as it was a truly hideous experience.

Good luck everyone - although luck should not come into it.

Glittertwins · 17/04/2012 21:41

Lil, you would get priority here. It depends on your admissions rules

sunnyday123 · 17/04/2012 21:41

yes, if siblings is higher than distance then even if the siblings lives 10 miles away they would still get in above someone closer with no sibling. Basically each category has to be filled before they move onto the next. e.g if your criteria says:
1- kids in care
2- siblings
3- distance from school

Then all siblings (regardless of address) have to get in before they move to distance - make sense?

laughinglil · 17/04/2012 21:45

yes thats our admissions criteria. Our emails go out at 00:30 so I am staying up...going to pour myself a glass of wine and really hope ! good luck everyone and to me! x

sunnyday123 · 17/04/2012 21:47

good luck! I've already had 3 glasses tonight and 6 days to go!

AThingInYourLife · 17/04/2012 21:50

You too, Never :)

laughinglil · 17/04/2012 21:50

With my ds I was so laid back. This time round though its so scary.. think its because I know this school will be really good for my daughter! (shes too little to go to school :0( )

sunnyday123 · 17/04/2012 21:55

its harder second time because its out of your control - with the first one you can accept what you have been given (even if not ideal) - second time round, its more out of your control, as DC1 is settled and so more a feeling of being 'trapped'. I really wish i'd chosen a school which prioritised siblings! I feel the school has me by the horns as dd1 will go into Y2 in sept and all the good schools are full to capacity at Y2 - thus if dd2 doesn't get in i have no choice but to do 2 school runs even if i wanted to move her (which i dont want to)!

BellaOfTheBalls · 17/04/2012 22:00

We find out on Friday. I have had a nightmare due to moving LEAs, old LEA not rearranging my application as promised so discovered last week that DS1 wasn't down for any schools in the area. They have put managed to change our choices & I am hoping this is a sign that the schools are not oversubscribed. We live in a small town with a good side & a not so good side & a school on either side of the town. We're on the good side Grin, 500yrds from the school which has just had a much improved Ofsted report.

If he doesn't get into that school we are up the proverbial creek. The others are 1 and 5 miles away respectively & I don't drive.

skinmysunshine · 17/04/2012 22:05

sunnyday you can accept if you get offered something. We got offered nothing which was horrible and I spent the whole summer fighting with the council

NoWayNoHow · 17/04/2012 22:07

IN Richmond Borough Council, but some of the schools I've applied for are in Surrey - for those of you saying that the emails go out at 00:30, are any of you in the same area? Don't know whether to stay up!

sunnyday123 · 17/04/2012 22:11

skinnysunshine

Blush - of course i forget that some areas are much more heavily oversubscribed than mine :)

No offer is terrible and a national disgrace to be frank!

sunnyday123 · 17/04/2012 22:12

did you get a positive result in the end?

AlexandraMary · 17/04/2012 22:23

Surrey is 5pm Wednesday

simpson · 17/04/2012 22:25

I find out tomorrow but should be ok as DD has a brother in yr2.

But will be relieved to get the letter all the same Smile
