Primary school places !!!

Is anyone getting nervous for the primary school places next week? It's all I can thunk about now , the 18th simply can't get here soon enough , I would be happy if my DS got any of his 3 choices but does anyone have any idea of his chances if getting in one of them if they are all within a radius if one and a half miles from our home. My ideal choice would his first choice which is a catholic school which is 0.6 miles from home but is always oversubscribed, we attend mass every week and had all forms signed by the priest etc but don't know how much of a chance he has if getting it , any advice would be great as am worrying alot now the date is getting nearer.

Thanks for reading and sorry for rambling xxx

eeek Tfor3 where is the Oxfordshire schools info online?? I've been waiting anxiously for an email!

EmmieMac · 20/04/2012 13:32

lucysnowe - if you registered on-line you can log in to your on-line application and you will see a button that says "offer details" at the bottom of your application.

ooh thanks! hmm that is interesting - have been offered place at top school but not at other two. That is good but we have kind of changed our minds and want to go to the second school on the list. I realise that makes us complete idiots. So what, if I reject the top offer and go for the other two, will that be possible? I am sorry to ask this when people haven't got their top schools, or haven't got a place, but would like to know, any advice appreciated!

lucysnowe · 20/04/2012 13:42

Oh of course if we got first offer, we wouldn't get the other two would we...

Glittertwins · 20/04/2012 13:45

Emmie, I have just found out that our school, which went from a 30 intake in Sept 2010 to a 60 in Sept 11 is now having a 3rd class for Sept 2012 only. On the plus side, the school buildings are twice as big and there are enough facilities to take 81 in their year and there will be a max of 27 per class rather than the std 30 everywhere else.

EmmieMac · 20/04/2012 13:47

Schoolsnightmare - They do actually have unusually small classes, so there may be a bit of leeway. Anyway, whether they can do anything or not, it stopped me crying! I have done the "appeal and go on waiting list" bit on the council website but can't do a proper appeal until I get the email with the details of why they rejected us.

EmmieMac · 20/04/2012 13:51

Wow, Glittertwins. That must be quite a strain on the school, to grow so much so quickly I would have thought.

My head hurts from crying. I am such a wuss.

timetochangeagain · 20/04/2012 13:55

can anyone tell me, if we are allocated a school >2 miles away, what they would do about transport?

I sent off DDs proof of residency yesterday, they recieved it this morning. Being the impatient person I am, does anyone know how long it takes them to get back to us with the official acceptance?

FrothyDragon · 20/04/2012 16:03

DS got his first choice. Which would be brilliant if we were definitely staying in the area...

FrothyDragon · 20/04/2012 16:08

Hope those with problems get these sorted. Emmie, you sound so worried. :(

lilly38 · 20/04/2012 17:48

Totally GUTTED ... I didn`t get any of my 6 !

I have been so upset as the school i have been given would not even be in my top 20 list, it was named as one of the school for "least added value to your childs education" by the Guardian last year.

I already have 2 childeren in one school (just @ the end of our road), I know it is what is is but that doesn`t make it any less frustrating.

On top of that I had a meeting with the nursey teacher just before Easter and she informed me that she has never had such a bight little girl in her class and said that i must make sure she does not get bored in reception.

She has been reading since the age of 3,5 and now reads the same books as her 6 year old sister (who is average).

Now I am so worried her time in reception will be a waist of her time.

The words "Least added value" keep flashing before my eyes .....

5madthings · 20/04/2012 18:21

finally managed to log in and check and ds4 got his place at the only choice i had put down, he has siblings there.

BellaOfTheBalls · 20/04/2012 18:54

Today is D-Day but still none the wiser. We moved LEA's shortly after closing date so don't have log in details to get onto their portal so have to wait for Royal Mail. Angry

Although my clearly useless previous LEA still have DS1 on their system. He got offered a place at the local catholic primary, despite it being one of the top 10 oversubscribed schools in the city, having had endless arguments with them about the catchment area & having not provided a baptism certificate. Hmm

piprabbit · 20/04/2012 19:14

BellaOfTheBalls - a family somewhere are going to be very, very happy when you decline the place at your old LEA.
I hope your hear from your new LEA very soon.

BellaOfTheBalls · 20/04/2012 19:17

pip I said to DP could we ask them to pick the most deserving family for our place. He laughed I think he thought I was joking

Cerinthe · 20/04/2012 22:19

My DD got into Bathwick St Mary's infants school today. I can't even imagine how this happened. Everyone has said it's impossible to get into. We didn't pretend to be religious and I didn't even think we were in the catchment area so I really don't know how this has happened. I am in shock.

Woooooooooooooooooooooooo!

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 21/04/2012 00:24

Ah, so pleased for you Cerinthe - perhaps it's a reward for integrity ?! Smile

Cerinthe · 21/04/2012 01:00

I'm just terrified it's an admin error!

Really I am.

Just got an email to say that DS hasn't been offered a place at the 4 schools we listed (3 catchement, 1 is the next closest).

Nothing in it about an offer elsewhere. DH feels sick, I'm holding it together.

Schools Nightmare - thank you for the advice. We had no other criteria besides being in the catchment area for the schools. I was trusting that the council would do all the measuring correctly, but you're right, errors can happen so we can ask, and check.

It did say that a letter would follow, we are all sat in the house waiting for the postie!

I am nagging DH that he has to set up a free school ASAP, and also considering finances for a closeby private school.

Thanks again.
