Primary school places !!!

Is anyone getting nervous for the primary school places next week? It's all I can thunk about now , the 18th simply can't get here soon enough , I would be happy if my DS got any of his 3 choices but does anyone have any idea of his chances if getting in one of them if they are all within a radius if one and a half miles from our home. My ideal choice would his first choice which is a catholic school which is 0.6 miles from home but is always oversubscribed, we attend mass every week and had all forms signed by the priest etc but don't know how much of a chance he has if getting it , any advice would be great as am worrying alot now the date is getting nearer.

Thanks for reading and sorry for rambling xxx

Yes, our CC keeps multiples together for their nearest school only. This is why we had to put our 3 nearest schools down on the forms as they have already changed their minds over which school is nearest! We took a flier on putting down our first choice but we're not too fussed.

Glittertwins · 17/04/2012 20:33

For 2013 reception entry, multiple birth children get priority over non siblings nationwide, not just in Herts.

sunnyday123 · 17/04/2012 20:35

wow glittertwins ive never heard of that before!

mommabee you should def use all 3 choices to give yourself the best chance of decent school - some people think by naming same school 2 or 3 times, the lea will give it to them but that doesn't work - you may end up with rubbish school miles away as it'll be the only school with places left after everyone else's choices have been honoured

sunnyday123 · 17/04/2012 20:40

i thought the new code only allows the second twin to get in if the first twin would have got in anyway? i.e if 1 twin gets in then the school can go over 30 to admit the 2nd twin - not that they get priority?

my friend has twins applying for next year so would def be interested in this as she wants a very oversubscribed school - can you point me to where this is written so i can forward to her:) thanks!

Getting worried too! Where is everyone? I am in Surrey.

DamonSalvatoreIsMyLoveSlave · 17/04/2012 20:43

Omg we don't find out until the 1st May Shock

I am Envy of you all. Good luck with getting the places you want though Smile

happyhorse · 17/04/2012 20:44

I feel positively sick with worry. Our emails go out at 6pm tomorrow. Our first choice is the furthest away of the three we've put down but we liked it so much more than the others. I'm in Herts.

sunnyday123 · 17/04/2012 20:45

1st may!!! Oh poor you thats so late :(

We are the 23rd April (Lancs) - lots of people seem to be getting theirs tomorrow so may avoid MN tomorrow as only making me more nervous :)

Glittertwins · 17/04/2012 20:46

It was in the news Oct time last year. Whole shake up on admissions criteria for SN, adopted/fostered and military too.

sunnyday123 · 17/04/2012 20:47

happyhorse - i do too! Just started on the wine as i can't sleep. Spoke to LEA briefly yesterday and keep relaying conversation in my mind to see if there was any hint of anything! We are preparing for 2 school runs as DD2 unlikely to get in DD1 school :(

AThingInYourLife · 17/04/2012 20:47

I think we should hear tomorrow by post, which means they should have been posted out today.

Fingers crossed for everyone :)

I feel ridiculous to be so nervous about this.

Glittertwins · 17/04/2012 20:53

Comes under rule 5 in Herts.

laughinglil · 17/04/2012 20:53

I am worried too about the two school runs. Physically impossible in my case. DH has the car during the day and its at least 25 minutes probably longer walk between each school how could I be in two places at once? arrrghhhh stress!

sunnyday123 · 17/04/2012 20:56

Thanks Glittertwins :)

I have read it and it says only what i thought? That if one of the 30 kids admitted is a twin, then they can go over the 30 infant class size to admit the other, but not that they get priority over others? e.g if the last child admitted is a twin, then they can go to 31 for the other twin but there's no mention of them going above others?

bebejones · 17/04/2012 20:58

We find out Friday (20th) (Gloucestershire), I am 99% sure we will get our first choice, but I just need to know so I can get my head around the fact my baby is starting school & start sorting stuff out & stocking up on uniform! (DD will be 4 on August 9th, so I don't want to have to buy everything all in one go in August...it's already an expensive month)

Fingers crossed for everyone waiting for places. :)

sunnyday123 · 17/04/2012 21:00

laughinghill - is it likely you will have 2 school runs? Does the school not prioritise siblings? Ours doesnt. We are out of parish and last year no out of parish siblings got in so a very real possibility for us :( I have never been so nervous in my life - first time round it wasnt as big a deal as all my choices were okay but this time its worse as we are trapped with school choice 1 and i cant move dd1 as she will be Y2 and is very shy and settled.

Glittertwins · 17/04/2012 21:00

Maybe we're lucky in Herts then. We only get guarantees of them together at our nearest school, which is our second choice. The council called us last Thurs to confirm that we wanted them at the same school, even if there was space for one at our top ranked school. We don't want to run the risk of not getting the second one in as there is no way I can get them in opposite directions for the same time. Let's hope they don't muck up!

Glittertwins · 17/04/2012 21:02

Sunny - get your friend to talk to Tamba if she is a member. They are very good for this. It's worth membership alone for this.

sunnyday123 · 17/04/2012 21:05

i will thank you :)

Just wish my school offered siblings priority - i'm sure its supposed to be easier the second time round - i've gone through several bottles of wine these past few days - i'm embarrased to nip back to tesco! Grin

laughinglil · 17/04/2012 21:07

Hi sunny, we have moved, only 4 streets away from where we used to live but this school is the most popular in the area, and seriously over subscribed. Siblings are prioritised here but i'm just thinking maybe we live too far away. Fingers crossed for us both x

lemniscate · 17/04/2012 21:12

Just wanted to wish you all luck. We found out our places at the end of March (West Sussex) - such a relief to get the news. We got our local school which is very popular and we're on the edge of the village so I was a bit nervous. Hope you get what you want!

Neverlandpirate · 17/04/2012 21:14

Wishing positive vibes for everyone here. I'm due to find out I think tomorrow by snail mail. Is anyone else here from N. Ireland?...as just wondering if I have got the date right?

AThingInYourLife · 17/04/2012 21:19

Never - yes, I'm expecting to hear tomorrow too.

Although maybe they post tomorrow and we hear Thursday? Confused

GwendolineMaryLacey · 17/04/2012 21:22

Surrey here too lightning
