Primary school places !!!

Is anyone getting nervous for the primary school places next week? It's all I can thunk about now , the 18th simply can't get here soon enough , I would be happy if my DS got any of his 3 choices but does anyone have any idea of his chances if getting in one of them if they are all within a radius if one and a half miles from our home. My ideal choice would his first choice which is a catholic school which is 0.6 miles from home but is always oversubscribed, we attend mass every week and had all forms signed by the priest etc but don't know how much of a chance he has if getting it , any advice would be great as am worrying alot now the date is getting nearer.

Thanks for reading and sorry for rambling xxx

Another nervous parent here. 18th is the date but I think emails go out at midnight so I'll be waiting up tomorrow night.

Our first choice is our closest school, only 300 metres away but it's not our catchment school- so it could go either way. I have a horrible feeling we might end up without a place but high up on the waiting list so we'll have even longer to wait in suspense.

The hardest thing is knowing that DDs two best friends will definitely get a place... I know friendships at this age change, but all 3 of us mums are really close and can rely on each other for childcare etc if needed, so it'd be so much more convenient if they were all together.

BsshBossh · 16/04/2012 20:45

Oh, can I join too? We find out via email on the evening of the 18th. I will be constantly refreshing my email account!

We're 0.1 mile from our first choice but it's oversubscribed and there are alot of siblings so I'm nervous. DD is at the school nursery so has made friends already (her friends all have older siblings there). We'll be fine with any of our other five choices but this school really is fantastic and it takes us a minute to get to.

Eek, one more day. I wonder what they class as 'evening'?

AlexandraMary · 17/04/2012 12:38

Mine is due to let us know 5pm tomorrow (Wednesday), cunningly waiting until the county council offices phones are closed for the night.

BsshBossh · 17/04/2012 12:45

Do the schools know already, do you think?

AlexandraMary · 17/04/2012 12:47

I'm fairly sure they do. Friend knows the head of one of our local schools, and the Head told her they were putting in a bulge class this year to help 'all the local children who didn't get any of their preferred schools'. Which made me feel a lot better Confused

allyfe · 17/04/2012 14:22

Goodness, I'm nervous and excited and I'm not even applying this year. That is just wrong. We will be going through it all next year, so I'm desperately keen to find out what the inclusion distance is for this year. I don't think they will publish that pretty much until we start thinking about applying next year.
We should be totally fine in all honesty, but I'm already obsessed. We live 0.1 miles from a very good school. But last year there were 60 sibling places for a 90 child intake, so the catchment area was 0.1 miles. As a result, the houses at the end of my road, which is on the same road as the school, weren't in the catchment area. So many people I know are in the process of moving in order to achieve school entry, which I think will mean tiny catchment areas for a good while yet.

Good luck to everyone, I hope you all get what you want for your DC's.

eddiedontlikefurniture · 17/04/2012 14:35

We find out tomorrow evening. Our nearest school is Ofsted Outstanding, which is great, but means that everybody wants to go. They've added a bulge class so 120 intake but we're 0.33 miles away and there are 65 siblings who get in ahead of us. I saw something on ITV London tonight that said that our borough (Barnet) apparently has 800 more children than places.

I've only just managed to calm myself down enough to eat something today.

Aaaaarrrrgggghhhh!

laughinglil · 17/04/2012 14:52

NERVOUSLY waiting too, e-mails here go out after 00:30 . Seriously hope my daughter gets to be in the same school as her brother otherwise we will have serious problems :0(

shelley72 · 17/04/2012 14:57

I am feeling more and more sick as the week goes on. As well as it being unlikely we will get our choices, have just realized that my baby will be going to school .how did that happen?!

laughinglil · 17/04/2012 15:00

Exactly shelley! My daughter is only 3,just 4 when she starts, feel like she is being taken away from me far to early :0(

blueberryboybait · 17/04/2012 15:52

Do you all find out by e-mail? Out here in the wildest sticks on Wiltshire ours are sent by snail mail on Friday so may get them on Saturday if the postie decides to come this direction or we may have to wait until he comes at about 3.30 on Monday! Just to make things worse I am working on Saturday and won't be home to get the post if it does arrive!

DD1 is down for our local RC school, 1 class entry and the only other school on that side of school has just moved to the opposite side of town so there are 2 children for every place! Our second choice is a village school 2 miles away and our final choice is a school 3 houses down but unfortunately it is the town sink school.

blueberryboybait · 17/04/2012 15:53

Laughing - my DD1 turns 4 on the 31st August, I can't believe she is going to school, if we lived in South Africa where i am from she wouldn't be heading for school for another 2 years at least!

shelley72 · 17/04/2012 16:13

Crikey just 4 that does seem too young! Wilts here too, hadn't thought that the post may be delayed til monday - the agony!

sunnyday123 · 17/04/2012 16:23

lancashire is Monday 23rd - says w can access in the "evening" - is this after 5pm or later or do we just keep trying?!

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 17/04/2012 16:25

DD will have turned four just over a month before she starts school - seems bizarre that they will all be so young!

sunnyday123 · 17/04/2012 16:45

my dd is the opposite - she's 5 in sept and has been ready for school since december !- she can't wait to go! They may seem young just turning 4 but they'll grow up quickly in those first few months of school. Initially i was glad dd was going to be one of the oldest but having struggled to entertain her this year, i (and DD) wish she'd have started last sept!

Iamnotminterested · 17/04/2012 16:46

27th April here. 99.99% sure DD will get in as sibling there and live 5 minutes away; however I do know that the school is very over-subscribed for September so the ones currently in nursery who travel a fair way may be disappointed.

blueberryboybait · 17/04/2012 16:57

Sunnyday - DD is most definitely ready for school academically but we are having to work on the dressing/undressing and fine motor skills as she is struggling with these. She is very excited by going to big school although due to her school closing down at easter we are having to head for a school she knows nothing about!

I think 4 is so young . I would be so grateful for just 1 more year with my dd . Offers go out tonight after 00:30... Late night for
Me as I know I won't sleep! So many things going through my mind. What if she doesn't get into the same school as my ds? How can I be in two places at once? Really am so nervous!

Glittertwins · 17/04/2012 20:20

We will apparently be emailed after 6pm tomorrow. I'm fully expecting them not to get first choice since it's not the nearest by the measurements but will be ok with second choice which is the "nearest". At least we will get our nearest due to twins unlike others I know who did not get a place at any school they applied to (their nearest)

sunnyday123 · 17/04/2012 20:23

does your school prioritise twins?! Shock

mommabee · 17/04/2012 20:25

Oh gosh I'm going to be in your places in 12 months time with my DS feel nervous for you all!!!! and for myself already!!! Hope you all get in where you want :) Can I ask did you all put down 3 choices as we've been looking at schools ready to apply in sept. but was only going to put 2 choices down as don't really want any others!? Thanks, have hopefully diverted your attention & worries for a few minutes! ;)

BonkeyMollocks · 17/04/2012 20:28

I find out on Friday

I am hoping I get the first choice because I really didn't like the others :( I don't think they would suit ds at all!

Good luck to everybody!
