Is on 1st March. I thought some costume ideas might be helpful? Son 1 has decided he would like to go as Dracula or Pikachu (handy, as we have stuff for both of those costumes) and Son 2 is going to wear his cowboy outfit.

I'm going as Wee Willie Winkie. No, I'm not an over-keen parent, I'm a teacher and we have to dress up as well.
I was Wally last year, the Gruffalo the year before.

We're Omri from Indian in the Cupboard. Ordinary clothes, a plastic cowboy and Indian in each pocket and a key round the neck.

Done.

Ds1 is going as a "Square Sweet that Looks Round" from Charlie and the Choc Factory, DS2 is the Saucepan Man, and I am helping at school, so will be a Little Pig.

NinthWave · 29/02/2012 21:32

DS1 is in Reception and decided he wanted to dress up as the Mummy from his Spooky Story anthology - very handy as this was also his Halloween costume last year Grin

lostmywellies · 29/02/2012 21:44

Ninth - all wrapped up in toilet paper?

Sitting - how many saucepans are you tying to DS2?

lostmywellies · 29/02/2012 21:53

DD1 - Mr Gum, with brown cap and jacket, dirty trousers and some orange face paint for a beard.

DD2 - the fairy in the bathtub (who hits Mr Gum over the head with a frying pan when he doesn't keep his garden neat). Fairy clothes plus frying pan made from circle of cardboard taped to spatula, both covered in tin foil.

DS - a pirate dinosaur from the Captain Flynn book(s?). Pirate costume plus green face paint.

Basically, I would be lost without my face paints! Actually we seem to have lost all our dressing up clothes in the recent move, so pirate costume is a jumble of stuff - it's been a busy afternoon, but a fun one. :o

dd is Milly-Molly-Mandy (sundress, pound shop straw hat)

she requested the same packed lunch MMM takes on her fishing expedition

I had to go and check the book but luckily it was bread and butter, a boiled egg and a banana, not bread and dripping [phew].

kaybags · 29/02/2012 22:38

eandemum - that made me laugh a lot

breathedeeply · 29/02/2012 22:57

How do I make a Clarice Bean costume?

AwkwardMary · 29/02/2012 23:29

Breathe....just an ordinary dress...a pinafore type one..you know, the nes that are kind of triangular in shape. With a white blouse under it and socks! that's easy....give your DD a Clarice book to carry.

DCs school are having a book swap / share instead of dress up. So lovely! I love their school.

keepingupwiththejoneses · 01/03/2012 00:41

ds3 is wearing a pair fo the most fab pj's I got from Asda. The top is a complete scene from star wars. Not exactly a book character but he has asd and would never wear fancy dress, and loves star wars, he has the annual so is technically a book. it's great because he can wear them again and again.

Mirage · 01/03/2012 08:16

DD1 Albert from War Horse,flat cap,white shirt,neckerchief,brown trousers,boots.DD2 my naughty little sister,flowery dress,cardi,hair in bunches.

gingysmummy · 01/03/2012 08:25

my ds is going as dudley the purple dragon, skiiny purple jeans, purple hoody headband with eyes attached and a fork tail made out of an old tight

ohyouBadBadkitten · 01/03/2012 08:35

My poor dd! She got all dressed up with long flowing cloak, flowers in hair etc and then we remembered that she would have to get the bus as dh is commuting today.
What a way to humiliate a 12 year old!
I dont know whether it was worse when kids from her old school drove past or when the bus load of kids from a rival school got stuck at the lights next to us. No-one else seemed to be dressed up.
Poor love, she has to walk across town at home time

lucjam · 01/03/2012 09:00

DD is going as Gangster Granny from the David Walliams book, she has some of her great grandmas old fashioned jewellery, a blouse, scarf skirt and cardigan. I have sprayed her hair with that dry shampoo stuff which has made it look grey, just need to find the black eye mask (from Robin as in batman and robin) costume and she's sorted. We have to go to physio at the hospital first so goodness knows what they will think!!

lucjam · 01/03/2012 09:00

Oh and she is currently walking with one crutch which adds to the outfit nicely!!

exrebel · 01/03/2012 09:11

sending DD (year 4) as Little Miss Whoops! blue face paint, blue top and trousers, blue hat and gloves, ripped old bedsheets for bandage in the head and chest. Spent £10 on face paint though.

Juney B Jones -AGAIN -

thankfully actually, as DD insisted it was next week - until last nightHmm - so its pretty easy clothes wise - mis matched bright colours & rara skits, big hair bows, scruffy hair & a bit of face paint for rosy cheeks & freckles -

phewGrin

Balhamum · 01/03/2012 12:21

For all early morning dressing up emergencies / face painting etc are annoying, it was quite funny walking to school down the high road with Lord Voldemort. Got to school to find Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter were already there...

Elibean · 01/03/2012 13:20

Mog the Forgetful Cat made it to school on time, in spite of frantic face painting at the last minute...

Amaretti · 01/03/2012 14:20

For those with older children and not much more than Halloween stuff - Dracula is a book!

Shutupanddrive · 01/03/2012 14:23

Ours have all gone in their welsh or red clothes as its also StDavid's day in Wales on 1st march, so no problems here!

MrsNotPrincessKate · 01/03/2012 15:05

DD 6 has gone as Alice in wonderland a disney store dress I got off ebay, only a few pounds. DS 10 has gone as the big bad wolf which is a wolf mask (from halloween) and a granny nightie from the market with a stuffed sock tail sewn on, leggings and chunky dm boots.

MothershipG · 01/03/2012 15:10

I sent an "Illustrated Mum" off to school this morning, a combination of temporary tattoos and me drawing a snake up her back and marigold on her front.Smile

She has her first Karate grading this evening so that'll be an interesting look! Grin
