Is on 1st March. I thought some costume ideas might be helpful? Son 1 has decided he would like to go as Dracula or Pikachu (handy, as we have stuff for both of those costumes) and Son 2 is going to wear his cowboy outfit.

I'm going as Wee Willie Winkie. No, I'm not an over-keen parent, I'm a teacher and we have to dress up as well.
I was Wally last year, the Gruffalo the year before.

Help!!!

DS wants to go as Peter from Secret Seven. Anyone any ideas what colours the SS badge is? I'm going to send him in with a bottle of ginger beer.

What would you put him in clothes wise?

Anything else to complete the outfit?

PastGrace · 26/02/2012 20:51

Secret Seven members MUST have their rubber soled shoes Wink

GrimmaTheNome · 26/02/2012 22:56

What would you put him in clothes wise?

Shorts with a shirt. V-necked jersey maybe. Old-fashioned school cap if you can find one.
I believe the badge is 'a green button with red embroidered SS on ' - but I'd use cardboard with a safety pin taped to the back every time.

I wonder whether any inattentive parent will send their child looking like this: Smile

lionheart · 27/02/2012 07:22

A simile? Wow! That is tricky but really rather cool.

Nowtasstrangeasfolk · 27/02/2012 07:59

Grimma thank god that's not my son's school, I read it as smile and couldn't get the green as grass thing. Then saw your post - then lionheart's reiterated it. Blush

ds is going as the hobbit. I have been tying bits of fur through the holes in his crocs all weekend. Dd is going as Alice in Wonderland - blue dress, white apron. Have to say, dd loves it and has been planning her costume for a whole year - I am so glad that she dropped the idea of going as a rainbow fairy!

PatsysPyjamas · 27/02/2012 22:36

This is my DD's first year (reception)- do all the girls generally turn out in princess costumes? Mine isn't, but I am struggling what to make her that she will be happy with if everyone else looks very girly. Most of her favourite characters seem to be male, now that I am thinking about it.

SlightlyJaded · 27/02/2012 22:41

DD is going as Cat in the Hat
DS is going as Tintin

Phew

KandyBarr · 28/02/2012 08:03

DS wants to go as the tiger from Ten Apples up on Top ( a lesser known Dr Seuss book that he absolutely loves). I've got to work out how to stick ten apples on top of a tiger costume. Confused

MummyDoIt · 28/02/2012 08:09

DS1 is going as Sir Walter Raleigh (just read Michael Morpurgo's "My Friend Walter). Black tights, black shorts over the top, white shirt with ruff made of card and a black half-cape. Gold buckles made of cardboard on his school shoes and a sword through his belt. Job done! DS2 is going as "Aliens Love Underpants". He'll be dressed all in black with a silver tabard or cape and a pair of big pants over his trousers. I'll probably paint his face green and give him either a sparkly wig or deely-boppers or maybe just another pair of pants on his head if he wants! Then I'll make a little washing line with pants on and pin that to him, to trail behind him (got that idea from another MN World Book Day thread!).

noseynoonoo · 28/02/2012 09:19

School have only just told us about this. I have no time to sort it out. DD does have fairy, princess, doctor's or fireman's outfit. I'm sure lots of boys will go as fireman and lots of girls as princesses. Are there any literary doctors?

PastGrace · 28/02/2012 11:16

Could the doctor's outfit pass as a vet's outfit? Animal Ark books are all about a vet's daughter. How old is DD?

Oggy · 28/02/2012 12:25

Daugher going as rapunzel, it was a fairy tale LONG before Disney stole it for their Disney Princess collection. I have made a loooong platt using yellow wool.

Son going as BFG, will fashion him some large ears and put him in old looking shirt and trousers rolled up. Any other bright ideas for BFG? Worried it won't be at all obvious who he is...

FYP · 28/02/2012 12:44

Ds2 (10yo) is going as an Oompa Loompa. Orange face paint, green hair spray dunarees and white fluffy eyebrows Hmm hope they get here in time!

bumpy06 · 28/02/2012 13:03

DS2 wants to go as the Smartest Giant in Town when he is back in his old clothes. We have the sandals and can make a crown. I can't seem to find an old nightshirt (his gown) that will fit him - any suggestions? I could give him an old shirt belonging to his dad but it will be far too big and uncomfortable to wear all day

GrimmaTheNome · 28/02/2012 13:23

Could the doctor's outfit pass as a vet's outfit?
Yes, so long as you add shoulder-length rubber gloves Grin

Rollergirl1 · 28/02/2012 13:29

DD wants to go as Wendy from Peter Pan (despite having numerous Disney princess dresses). Would it be too much of a cop-out to send her in a long nightdress, dressing gown and slippers? She wants to sleep overnight with her hair in plaits to give her hair a bit of a bumpy look (i think she is envisaging the Wendy in the most recent Peter Pan).

ripsishere · 28/02/2012 13:40

That sounds OK to me Rollergirl.
My almost 11 DD will be either the girl in the red pajamas with gingerbread men on (no striped ones) or the girl in the long black dress who doesn't have a character assigned to her yet or, I may nick yours.

Phlox · 28/02/2012 13:41

DS's school have announced they have to go as a character from their favourite non fiction book - just to make it even more painful. I dashed to the library and got out a book on rugby and DS is going to wear his rugby kit - job done!

GrimmaTheNome · 28/02/2012 13:48

the girl in the long black dress who doesn't have a character assigned to her yet
Grin that's the way to do it.

In a couple of years when the long black dress is outgrown, you've got Sara Crewe (A Little Princess) ready and waiting.

Chandon · 29/02/2012 12:16

This is a GREAT one for boys, which I learned on MN btw!

Just dress him in normal boys' clothes and let him bring a tiny bottle which has a label with " Medicine", and hey presto, you are George from "George's Marvellous Medicine"!

There must be one for girls too.....think think

ripsishere · 29/02/2012 12:30

Right, I'm going to buy a toilet brush in the pound shop and she's agreed to be moaning Myrtle.
According to DD, there are already four Hermiones in her class of 9 girls.
