When did you/your DD start periods?

I was 13 and DD is now nearly 13, but not started yet, though she’s needed a bra for a couple of years and is already as tall as me. She’s still very slim though (unlike her mother!). I guess it won’t be long until she starts and I feel a bit as if I’m on standby.

How old were you in comparison with your DDs?

vroom321 · 04/09/2022 19:48

I was 13 dd started 6 months ago age 11.

Hesma · 04/09/2022 19:59

I started 2 months before my 12th birthday, DD started 3 months after her 12th birthday

mommatoone · 04/09/2022 20:03

Mine was aged 10

TooHotToTangoToo · 04/09/2022 20:05

I was about 11, my dd was 10

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 04/09/2022 20:08

I was 13; DD was 10 ½. Still at junior school, not a great experience.

Upwiththelark76 · 04/09/2022 20:09

I was 10 DD was 10 !

CatLadyDrinksGin · 04/09/2022 20:09

Dd and I were both 11.5. She’s shorter than me, similar build.

Goldencup · 04/09/2022 20:11

Both my DM, myself and Dd started aged 13 and a couple of months.

MissPinkCakeyBun · 04/09/2022 20:11

I was 11 and a couple of months. ( back in 1979 ) I started wearing a bra at 10
My DD started hers at 11 too.
I went into peri-menopause earlier than my mum I started at 47 but she was in her early 50's. Though she had a late baby at 42 ( back in the 80's that was a very late baby)
My gran started hers age 15 but lived through the hardship of the 1st world war so was ( in her own words) a skinny little rake of a girl.

golddustwomen · 04/09/2022 20:13

As some other pp's have said I was also 9. It was horrible and I felt HORRIBLE as no one had had the chat about periods with me before I started. I just remember feeling so disgusting and alone. My dd is 8 and we have had lots of chats about it. I am hoping she doesn't start as early as I did but I am confident if she does I have done enough to make her not feel how I did.

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 04/09/2022 20:13

DD and I have the same build and the same birthday. I started about a week before I turned 15, she’s not started yet and is about four months away from that date so I’m interested to see what happens. We are both tall and slim.

libbytrois · 04/09/2022 20:15

Me 14y6m dd 12y4m

JanuaryParty · 04/09/2022 20:16

I think it's supposed to be roughly 2years from the very first appearance of breast buds.

I was 12 DD a similar build to me although very slow in physical development teeth etc so wondering if she'll be later - lucky her!

WhatIsThisPlease · 04/09/2022 20:17

I was 14 and 4 months DD was 14 and 10 months

Didiplanthis · 04/09/2022 20:18

About how long after first period did your daughters stop growing ?

Teand · 04/09/2022 20:19

11

Fink · 04/09/2022 20:19

Same age. I was 10 in last year of primary, so was she.

Meredusoleil · 04/09/2022 20:20

I was 10.5 and in last year of primary.

Dd1 was 13 in Year 8.

Dd2 is 10.5 and thankfully not started yet, but think it will be before she is 13 as she is very tall (albeit very slim too).

Helpel · 04/09/2022 20:24

I read somewhere (a long time ago and no source so not exactly scientific!) that a girl had to be approx 7 and a half stones to start her periods. Was true for me - I was 15 and very skinny! And as a PP said, periods can stop if weight drops below that later in life for what ever reason. Don't think I'll ever have that problem 😂

Blaggingit123 · 04/09/2022 20:26

I was 13, my dd is 9 and has advanced signs of puberty so I am expecting it to be in the next year. She is currently just over 6st and almost 5ft tall.

incidentally, she has a separate unrelated medical condition so her development is monitored, her consultant expects her to stop growing in 2-3 years time (2 years after periods start) but the peak growth is in the 6-12 months before they start.

sunandheatwave · 04/09/2022 20:29

I was 13 my daughter was 7. Luckily I had prepared her as she had developed early, but honestly it was one of the most upsetting things to go through as a mum and for her

Leafblow · 04/09/2022 20:33

Both me and my oldest daughter were 11 and still in primary school, but both small and skinny so my mum didn't suspect it with me, and even though we looked exactly the same, I still didn't expect it with my daughter.
Younger daughter was later at 13 and although still very slight she was a lot taller and seemed to develop earlier so I had expected her to start from a younger age. Its so hard to predict sometimes
It is interesting though as me and older daughter stayed at 5'1 as soon as we got our periods while younger daughter kept growing until she was 15 and is 5'7

sunandheatwave · 04/09/2022 20:34

My daughter is tall for her age and was only 5 st 1 lb when her periods started

Goldencup · 04/09/2022 20:36

Dd grew for about a year and a half afterwards. Stopped by the time she was 15.

Hesleepswiththefishes · 04/09/2022 20:39

I started on my 12th birthday and dd was 13 in March and no sign yet

we do have the same size feet and the same dimensions ( just measured for school uniform) and sh is about 3 inches smaller…..I’m 5’6)
