I don’t know why another thread hasn’t been created yet , so here you go. Now as we prep ourselves to the peak of this pandemic, let’s all face it together and appreciate how fragile our lives are and how we need each other to survive and flourish.

fruity I assumed Boris Johnson would be doing a press conference at 5pm again?

I did a (manual, paper based) inventory yesterday which was very helpful. Identified gaps in spices and frozen proteins. For meat, we only have a few chicken thighs and diced beef. Dried and canned goods we are much better for, and lots of tinned fish. Think it may be difficult to get hold of meat atm but fortunately we are happy to be mainly plant based.
Got a Tesco delivery booked for this week but after that nothing booked.

tryingtoprep · 23/03/2020 16:51

Thank you @Weedsnseeds1 I'm looking forward to giving it a go. Bit nervous but it's something to do whilst being inside so much. Luckily I have lots of malt vinegar. I'm a bit addicted to it. I plan to use emrpy pickle jars and the lids.

@Vaki How is your son today? I hope he's ok.

@echobench Wishing you and your family well. I hope whatever it is, it's mild.

@Sprayitall I'm sorry you had to (temporarily) close your business. I definitely intend to do what I can to support local businesses.

I'm nervous about what this week brings. I want lockdown in a way but feel a bit panicky about the prospect of being trapped indoors. I really hope we'll allowed brief exercise slots even if only for those of us with no outside space.

fruitybum · 23/03/2020 17:06

@TiddleTaddleTat it's been delayed until tonight due to the cobra meeting

Sprayitall · 23/03/2020 17:34

Had this funny instance today. Part of the Costco order was delivered this afternoon, the parcelforce driver mistakenly delivered someone else’s Costco parcel and came back after it was sprayed in 15 min. I said sorry I am spraying everything and he said it’s fine and apologised as he was working for 14 hours in a days so mistakes like these happen. Then half an hour ago there was an angry woman who barged in to my property saying her parcel was with us as it was wrongly delivered to us and showed the parcelforce in her phone. She was so loud that the neighbour came out to see what’s wrong. I was just cleaning the hallway by then and my dh ran inside from the garden to see what’s all the noise was about. She then went away after dh said the parcel was taken back by the driver himself. I’m utterly disappointed with Costco as well as parcelforce now - I don’t know which one but whoever it is how can they give off people’s address like that to a stranger? Is that even the norm here? I was thinking how safe it is especially at the given situation.. especially with elderly and vulnerable people isolating themselves now? I have now lodged a complaint with Costco who has given me a complaint number and said they will follow up with parcelforce. Should I also contact parcelforce about that?

That woman sounds quite rude Sprayitall People are getting very scared and stressed but really there's no need for so much unpleasantness.

I'm wondering if she got one of those Your Parcel Is With A Neighbour cards? Sorry she was so rude to you. I was very grateful to my neighbour when they took in a delivery for me once.

Vaki · 23/03/2020 17:49

He seems ok today, went into work but was told to work in the back warehouse etc away from customers today.

He works for the largest supermarket chain in a big store, but our town isn't massive. All staff were told about the incident and have been told if they feel threatened, dk whatever is necessary and the company will back you up. They've been banned, they stupidly had come in earlier and used a clubcard, so that account is now banned and if they try use the clubcard it sets off an alert at the checkout to warn the staff member. The persons detail has been sent to the police too.

Son really appreciates all your comments too. I'm doing ok btw, thursday is the day of surgery so hopefully it doesn't get cancelled

Sprayitall · 23/03/2020 18:05

@tryingtoprep she is not my neighbour . And she lives few estates away. That’s what was scary

I had ordered few things from Costco to donate to a local charity that’s close to my heart who are volunteering to deliver food boxes to the elderly and frail who are self isolating. And it’s arriving part by part in separate boxes. What a waste of packaging and plastics. I would have gone to buy them all but because the queue last weekend was until the further end of the car park to get in and an even longer line to come out (it was even in the local papers lol) I thought the better thing to do is to order online. I fully empathise the delivery drivers though. Please don’t be unpleasant to any of them, they are doing their best. People who react unnecessarily like this and get angry for silly selfish reasons - please don’t. It might even cost the delivery man’s job at this hour / remember they also have family.

And I don’t know what she thinks.. I am getting seriously annoyed by this “unintentional self assuming” questions like “tell your landlord” “can I talk to the lady of the house” “tell your boss that my parcel was wrongly delivered here”. I didn’t bother to reply anything to her because I was shocked as well as amused at her behaviour. Yes I was wearing gloves and was cleaning because my daughter dropped her bowl of coco pops. My hair is a mess because I am not well and having a fuckin af that won’t stop. It’s my home and I will be in my comfy pyjamas all day - yes I am from India, no we don’t run cash and carry, no we don’t live in slums back home neither we are millionaires , yes most of us are highly educated and skilled,I can’t be bothered to prove it by dressing up always with nice shoes and dress to show my social status. If you can’t assess by looking - be polite. Lol funny people. Dh was amused too to see a woman angry like that at the delivery people rolling her eyes and swearing at them. Everyone is scared and stressed alright, but no one is going to keep a random parcel of a stranger that’s even more risky - mistakes happen. We are humans. I felt very sorry for the delivering person today.

Second day on a row that numbers of new cases have decreased. 🤞

BlackeyedSusan · 23/03/2020 19:35

I hope so too Veneto.

Watching the dickheads sitting together on a wall outside a church hall earlier...why the people running whatever service it is don't tell them, I don't know. I am scared we will have to go for strict lock down, though if that was just a month it would not be too bad. Just when you have started early on lockdown it feels tougher.

More and more stuff is closing. More and more telly/ radio is going off.

Legoandloldolls · 23/03/2020 19:39

That's some good news vento at last

Sprayitall · 23/03/2020 19:40

@VenetoResident Hopefully it decreases and goes away. I just want the normal days back. Suddenly a boring trip to the mall doesn’t seem bad after all. Sitting in a coffee shop with crowds chattering away won’t be annoying to me anymore atleast to me.. I’m so thankful for everything I have received so far in life and want to get through this much more stronger. But sitting inside all day is so stressful. May be a little more gardening is on the cards.

Legoandloldolls · 23/03/2020 19:40

Our local.radio is presenting from.their homes. It's so nice to hear their normal voices. It's the only constant we seem.to have

Sprayitall · 23/03/2020 19:57

Ok I am sharing a tip here which I am sure many would have done already but after seeing a video of my friend who has posted their dc’s hand washing Video I wanted to share this tip which is more essential now, to save liquid hand soaps being used off too quickly -Either use solid hand soaps or Please use a rubber band on your hand wash pump. This will make sure kids get less soap and if you need more you can always press again. Attaching a picture so you can see what I am trying to say. Thank you

Could anyone help me please? My parents live in a remote area. The only supermarket that does online shopping in their area has no delivery slots available. They refused to get one when I suggested it a couple of weeks ago. Does anyone know of any online shops that may send items to the back of beyond? So far I've thought of Baxters for soups and Amazon pantry. It isn't a problem if they have to buy in bulk because they have lots of space for storage.

applesandpears33 · 23/03/2020 20:09

I should have added, my parents are frail and nervous about going to the supermarket.

lexloofah · 23/03/2020 20:17

applesandPears any local farm shops that could deliver? Milk delivery? (often do eggs, cheese, yogurt, bread, potatoes), our local grocers and butchers deliver

planningaheadtoday · 23/03/2020 20:17

@applesandpears33
Do they have a small local (ish) shop.
We are rural and our lovely farm shop has organised boxes that can be delivered or collected. They take payment over the phone.

Our other shop is the post office and they deliver essential supplies after closing but I need cash to pay.

Your parents might have a unknown resource near them. Ours came about with people asking them to deliver. It's all a bit early days yet, but our community is pulling together and protecting the vulnerable.

Could you join their local face book community? You could ask on their behalf.

I've 'met' so many lovely people whilst isolating, I wave from the window.

tryingtoprep · 23/03/2020 21:06

@applesandpears33 your parents sound like my elderly relatives except mine are in a city. They too refused to let me get them anything weeks ago. I think planningaheadtoday has some brilliant suggestions. My relatives lovely neighbours helped get them food. There are horrible people like those who attacked Vaki's son but luckily there are also some nice people out there who want to help others.

I miss going out for a coffee @Sprayitall Just on my own after a shop or meeting friends and family. So much I used to take for granted.

@Vaki I'm glad your son is doing ok and back at work. It's really good to hear how supportive his manager and colleagues are being - and great news those responsible have been deservedly banned.

@VenetoResident Fingers crossed the numbers keep going down.

So this is it. Finally - weeks later than it should have happened, we have a kind of lockdown. It feels weird. As we have no outside space in our flat I'm very glad we're allowed daily exercise. I hope people don't ruin it by taking advantage.

I feel sorry for the police being on the frontline of this.

applesandpears33 · 23/03/2020 21:42

Thank you for the help and advice. No farm shops that I know of, but I'll do a bit of looking online to see if I can find something.

AlohaMolly · 23/03/2020 21:47

I feel so sick. Thanks to these threads I knew it was coming and I feel like I’ve prepared as well as I could, but I think it’ll be like a mini grief for a few days.

Do we think it could really ‘just’ be three weeks?

Sprayitall · 23/03/2020 21:49

@apple Try their Facebook local pages. By now most of the locations have their own support group pages offering local deliveries etc. You might get some info there. Milk&more are still delivering so if you have an account and if they deliver you can do that. Or may be one person can go, buy all the things they need and send a parcel to them?

OP posts:
WhatALearningCurve · 23/03/2020 22:00

@alohamolly I'm assuming it's 3 weeks because Italy had 2 weeks then have extended by a week. What happens there next week will determine what happens here (I think anyway)

tryingtoprep · 23/03/2020 22:07

@Vaki I forgot to wish you all the very very best with your operation.

Vaki · 23/03/2020 22:14

Thank you, will definitley have to contact my doctor to see if we're going ahead, as i need to travel an hour away for the op
