I don’t know why another thread hasn’t been created yet , so here you go. Now as we prep ourselves to the peak of this pandemic, let’s all face it together and appreciate how fragile our lives are and how we need each other to survive and flourish.

Has anyone noticed Chris Whitty rarely blinks?? He's a bit reptilian...

bellinisurge · 18/03/2020 18:18

Got to admit, even a rough tough old git like me had something in her eye at the thought of schools closing and exams being cancelled.
Dh and I broke up some furniture to take to the tip to work it off.
I'm having to be the strong one in our house at the moment. Dh is trying not to worry and is worrying about his failure to avoid worrying. Dd is pleased school is closing but pissed off at not being able to hang out with friends. It's also her birthday very soon.

Quite surreal now that it has actually been announced. I just hope that it does actually help to stop the spread!

VenetoResident · 18/03/2020 18:29

@HasaDigaEebowai I am expecting there will be a lot of public anger about all this initially but most of it might stem from denial. Oooh .. how I wish to see the faces of people who asked me to “react proportionately” 🙄 Dh is finally thanking me because he initially thought I’m mental - I can’t relax much now because I couldn’t get any slots for my usual supermarket deliveries. I don’t get how people are so much relaxed and go ahead with birthday parties for their kids as if this is nothing. These are the people who put Nhs at risk.

Thanks for the new thread. I'm feeling so strange about the school closures. Not how I expected to feel at all. My youngest is in year 6 and she'll miss her end of year and end of primary school stuff most likely. More importantly I really feel for exam students. A very strange day..

Sprayitall · 18/03/2020 18:35

@Destinysdaughter I’m now curious. What is being a reptilian? My friends talk about it a lot and they say many of the top people are reptilians - what does it mean! I don’t understand that because I don’t think people can be reptiles??

OP posts:
Destinysdaughter · 18/03/2020 18:42

Sorry I wasn't being a conspiracy theorist it's just weird watching him talk, how little he blinks, it's unnerving!

Sprayitall · 18/03/2020 18:43

@VenetoResident why is that 50% are hospitalised? Is that a culture related issue there like India (where we don’t take chances of being at home and will like to be seen by a doctor right away if we don’t feel well )

I found it very difficult to adjust to British way of life initially with NHS getting on my nerves and giving me appointments 4 weeks away however bad my situation was (I had prolonged heavy periods and had to stay in bed all day still couldn’t get an appointment and had to wait 4 weeks- got frustrated and booked my ticket back to India right away for the same night and managed to see the doctor on the same day I arrived - My levels were so bad I needed a blood transfusion right away, if I had waited for 4 weeks God knows what would have happened - This was on normal days , I am scared to even think of what will happen to Nhs now)

OP posts:
Sprayitall · 18/03/2020 18:47

@Destinysdaughter no I am not saying you are a conspiracy theorist. Its because I come from a very different background and I don’t understand half the things people talk yet here in the U.K. to be honest, I am poor at understanding half the slangs and phrases used as I didn’t grow up here.

My friends talk about it a lot and they say many of the top people are reptilians - what does it mean!

There is a famous UK sports personality and presenter called David Icke who unfortunately had a very public breakdown. He's now a professional conspiracy theorist and he genuinely believes that the world has been taken over by a group of alien shape shifting reptiles and that most prominent world leaders including the queen are reptiles in disguise.

Thanks for the new thread. I thought people might be interested in the above approach being taken here.

Legoandloldolls · 18/03/2020 19:00

Crap.

No gcses
No prom
No school shirt signing
No opening of GCSE grades
No coping mechanisms learnt to take in a level
No school ever again.

I'm heartbroken but I feel numb

I have two boys with ehcps in sense schools but one has already closed. My son has a disability socail worker to but dispite Borises speel there is no school as they can not meet ratios. As he has severe ASD he cant go anywhere else
It would be beyond cruel.

God I wish I was that thick right now. To be so blissfully batshit crazy

LeGrandBleu · 18/03/2020 19:04

I am now prepping for non-food I won't be able to buy in next months.

  • Paper and printer ink
  • Vacuum bags
  • Powerbanks if at some points there will be reduced hours of electricity supply
  • at home sport equipment (jumping rope, bands, nothing over the top)

Kids are teenagers, so not expecting them to grow out of clothes and we will definitely not use shoes as we will have to stay indoors.

When prepping for food, consider salt, spices and herbs.

Prep for your own mental being and consider doing some online learning. Platforms such as Coursera and EdX are totally free of charge if you do not wish a certificate and you can access courses offered by Harvard, Stanford and other big names.

Consider board games, because at some point online streaming will get to your head.

Please share your ideas or preparations for non - food items

Orangecake123 · 18/03/2020 19:07

If you need extra food, but there's also places like Holland & Barrett. Free delivery over £25.

Waitasecond · 18/03/2020 19:08

Thanks for the new thread @Sprayitall. I’m feeling a mix of emotions now the schools are closing. I’ll be glad to have my family all at home but it feels very real now.

Rumours are flying about a 15 day lockdown starting on Friday. I think if people are hearing and believing these rumours the supermarkets are going to be scary places to be tomorrow. I’m so glad we can avoid it all. Stay safe everyone Flowers

Orangecake123 · 18/03/2020 19:12

I love David Icke and honestly thought he was crackers when I first came across his book "the biggest secret" through my aunt- but he was right about the child abuse ring at Westminster and he wrote about the push for contact less cards back-before they were even a big thing and this was even before I can remember osyter cards for transport.

misscockerspaniel · 18/03/2020 19:18

Rumours are flying about a 15 day lockdown starting on Friday Do you remember quite a few threads back, the poster whose uncle worked for the fire brigade, who had attended a meeting and been told to prepare for lockdown in (then) 10 days time? The timing tallies with that.

Legoandloldolls · 18/03/2020 19:26

I just want to drive down and get my mum 😭😭

ooopsupsideyourhead · 18/03/2020 19:26

I have cried this evening. I am a secondary school SENCO. I have cried for all the reasons @Legoandloldolls listed, but also selfishly for myself, I love my job. I’ve cried for the colleagues I won’t see for a long time. For our small school but BIG community.

I will have to work with the SLT to discuss what we will do to support our vulnerable students, most of whom I’m responsible for (I’m also the designated teacher for looked after children). But, as DH is an essential worker my hands on helpful will be limited unless I can take my two year old in with me. I don’t even know if I want to do that.

Legoandloldolls · 18/03/2020 19:27

If anyone can crochet maybe try helping woolly hugs. They get donations could send you the bits you need

Fivefourthree · 18/03/2020 19:31

Hi all, just checking in Flowers

VenetoResident · 18/03/2020 19:32

@Sprayitall - no - you only get a bed if you are ill enough to need it. I read of a hospital doctor who couldn't find a bed when he was dying (got one eventually).

They haven't been testing the milder cases widely. Only if you're in hospital.

They are trying to change that now and find the asymptomatic carriers to stop the spread.

VenetoResident · 18/03/2020 19:34

My DS is still in the dark as he's doing iGCSEs and Cambridge say they'll still run. So he has to keep going even though he's been out of school for 4 weeks and probably won't get any more teaching before the exams. 🤯😩🤯
