I don’t know why another thread hasn’t been created yet , so here you go. Now as we prep ourselves to the peak of this pandemic, let’s all face it together and appreciate how fragile our lives are and how we need each other to survive and flourish.

@MrsFezziwig - The company in Ireland already have them available. I'm so tempted to buy some. But they're in packs of 25 and need lancets and capillary tubes too. They wouldn't arrive for 2 weeks.

But I'm so hopeful we've already had it that I don't want to be swabbed (they're screening now for asymptomatic carriers, but starting with medical staff) as I fear it's a waste of a swab. At current rates it would take TWO YEARS to swab the whole region!

AlohaMolly · 19/03/2020 07:47

Oh @VenetoResident I really thought it would be processed stuff that would be the risk and that I’d be able to switch back to our local butcher. I hadn’t thought about if they get ill that the food wouldn’t be safe.

I think I’ll head to them today and then freeze the stuff I buy?

VenetoResident · 19/03/2020 07:49

@Onceuponatime - short frequent drives are worse (for petrol cars certainly) than not driving it.

We have a jump starter that would start the car but can also be used to trickle charge.

It supplies 12V electricity too so in an emergency we could use it as a battery pack for phones - we have a 12v lead that has 4 USB ports on it.

It was a couple of hundred ££ though.

@ooopsupsideyourhead
Here is a thread about entertaining two year olds

Home with a two year old www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/3853110-home-with-a-two-year-old

@Lifesavesocialdistance You won't really need shoes much. You could order a Clark's foot measurer then you can order online at your leisure. We buy immaculate Clark's shoes via Facebook market place for £5-£8

@WhereDoWeGo How you feeling this morning. You are never alone with mumsnet. How hold are your little ones?

84TinsOfBeans · 19/03/2020 07:56

@BlackeyedSusan how are you filling your day?

@Utini I would explain there is new bug like a cold that can make old people very very ill. So we all have to stay indoors/gardens/away from people until it goes away to make sure everyone is safe. It won't be for forever but it will be for quite a long time. The people in charge have lots of clever woman and men who are making a special medicine to stop people getting it.

VenetoResident · 19/03/2020 07:57

@AlohaMolly - yes - buy, freeze, cook with clean hands and it will have virtually no risk. I'm sure the biggest risk will be a car accident on the way to the butchers. 🌷Good to support local businesses too.

Onceuponatimethen · 19/03/2020 08:13

@VenetoResident I’ve been told before by a mechanic if that to keep battery charged you need to do 20 minutes x once per week at 60 mph in 4th gear! But then within 15 weeks or so all the fuel would be gone anyway by doing that and after that the battery would still run down!

BlackeyedSusan · 19/03/2020 08:25

If you have an electric hand brake, think if you could get at your car bonnet to open and charge. I keep my car in the garage and would not be able to get it out/ open the bonnet/ get a mechanic into to garage to sort it.

I opted for an analogue hand brake.

AlohaMolly · 19/03/2020 08:57

My car insurance is due for renewal 11/4/2020. Perhaps I could declare my car sorn and save on the insurance Sad

MrsFezziwig · 19/03/2020 08:59

@VenetoResident thanks so much for all your posts, really helpful insights into the lockdown situation.

I live alone & thanks to these threads was pretty well prepped, so in theory could just lock down here and now if need be, but have an elderly relative living alone who several of us share care of, which complicates matters.

84TinsOfBeans · 19/03/2020 08:59

@graphista. You can grate courgette with salt and pepper and a bit of oil. Then fry shallots, a tin of chick peas and garlic and a bit of thyme if you have it. Chop up cherry toms and add everything onto the grilling courgettes to grill some more.
I'll send a photo of the actual recipe. It's by Anna Jones

KatyMac · 19/03/2020 09:00

@VenetoResident at the moment yes - but we are watching and waiting - if we were on lockdown someone would shop (I guess) and it would be one of them - neither are at work atm (well DD has started a streaming dance class but that's pretty safe apart from the Wi-Fi)

Hygiene is paramount and they are not touching/kissing us (well bf wouldn't and DD hasn't )

Tbh I think the lockdown is coming fairly soon :(

wherearemychickens · 19/03/2020 09:04

I have just tried to order a whole load of DiY stuff from B&Q and then found out most of it couldn't be home delivered, dammit.

KatyMac · 19/03/2020 09:13

@wherearemychickens - try screwfix they started with delivery

wherearemychickens · 19/03/2020 10:10

Thanks for the rec - will do!

bellinisurge · 19/03/2020 10:14

Kinda secretly a bit worn out being the strong , cheerful one in the house. And it's only Day 3.
However, I discovered some unused Morrison's party food in tbe freezer while making space for whatever needs to be frozen in our weekly delivery due today.
Who knew vegan cauliflower bites would be so tasty?

KatyMac · 19/03/2020 10:18

Me too @bellinisurge and all my food plans have come crashing down with 1 veggie with vegan leanings and 1 veggie with sectarian leanings - all that bacon is mine but we are short on soya mince and eggs

lexloofah · 19/03/2020 10:23

Went to LIDL this morning for top up shop, just fresh stuff. Cashier said loads of people had been in having already been to Sainsburys with no luck.

After school pick up tmrw I just want to stay in, have enough food in but don't fancy any of it, just feel sick with worry

Right off to set up makeshift desks in Dcs rooms for homeschool, got to keep busy

84TinsOfBeans · 19/03/2020 10:30

@bellinisurge I'm sick of being the one holding it together. My husband snapped at me Tuesday and now again today. I don't know why he's suffering more than anyone? I've come upstairs for mumsnet time and a cuppa and left the screaming toddler downstairs with him 'working'.

Sprayitall · 19/03/2020 10:31

Good morning,
How are you all today and how are the preps coming up? Dh is busy with his Virtual coffee mornings with his own little group of recruiters and people as such. Me and dd are trying to spend our time as much as happy, wild and carefree as we could be with playful learning in between. Accepting and acknowledging this is the new norm was and still is a bit challenging in my case. We downloaded a lovely bug chart from face book page called kookie illustrations yesterday to keep dd busy while gardening. I have lot of garlic left so planning to pickle them all today. I am also expecting couple of deliveries (ordered some hospital bag necessities and received only part of the orders so far) after which I think I can safely say that I am not going to venture out much. What day is all your cut off date for staying inside??

Fivefourthree · 19/03/2020 10:36

I'm amused by your veggie with sectarian leanings @KatyMac. I assume autocorrect...
Good luck with your sudden extras Flowers

bellinisurge · 19/03/2020 10:37

I'm listening to Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy while doing some chores, drinking tea and playing with the cat. Dh is working from hone. Dd is at school. I took a day's leave to do what I can to get tbe house set up.
Dh was concerned we didn't have enough instant noodles for dd to make for herself if both of us are poorly.
"Give me a mo", I said and went into the garage where the stuff is. Every trip to Aldi or Poundland or wherever over the past year or so and I got some. Or Mug Shots. Or whatever. I put them on the settee. It resolved that concern.

Fivefourthree · 19/03/2020 10:42

All OK here today, and good morning to all. So pleased to be away from shops. It looks awful.
I feel a bit guilty about my full larder and freezer, but like many of you we prepped for brexit and didn't run the stash down because of all the uncertainty.
I am shocked but not surprised at how quickly mayhem has ensued.
We've already shared a bit with family members, but have kept quiet about what we have tucked away.
It is heart rending seeing mums posting on Facebook about needing baby milk, but I can't get exercised about them being desperate for baby wipes. What is wrong with soap and water?

KatyMac · 19/03/2020 10:49

Piscatarian !!! She will eat fish if forced!

HasaDigaEebowai · 19/03/2020 10:56

My recent veggie DS1 if veggie for environmental reasons and will have to eat meat if necessary. I have a fair amount of soya mince anyway since we've all been eating a lot less meat but the freezer is full of meat from the brexit prepping.
