I don’t know why another thread hasn’t been created yet , so here you go. Now as we prep ourselves to the peak of this pandemic, let’s all face it together and appreciate how fragile our lives are and how we need each other to survive and flourish.

It’s all news to me about David Icke and reptilians etc. I can’t get my head around that as my head is already spinning with the things I have failed to prep. I have this weird feeling that I have forgotten something that’s so important like that even though I have prepped as much as I can. Like many others my supplies won’t last beyond few weeks given that everyone being at home. I have sent my sibling all the prep lists I have done. There are 20 cases in NZ so far today I heard but they are gearing up for winter flu and this covid together which makes it difficult. Elderly are given preference for flu jabs there now

@VenetoResident that’s so awful then.. I think they should start rolling out home tests right away even for asymptomatic individuals. It’s difficult though because mass manufacturers like China, India and France were/are all caught up fighting the same in their own country. sending you virtual hugs x

Sprayitall, there is alot of flab in the NHS.
I won't bore you all with my various experiences but I can see that throwing more money at it won't help. It needs re modeling, Germany is supposed to have an amazing system?
Ours is too slow. Too creaky and leaky.

I can't remember all the names but I hope the poster who is ill is OK!!

I had a huge panic last night that I had it, and thought :this is it.

This morning touch wood I'm fine, but it brought me more time! So I was out at 8am topping up on other bits, and children's fun books from the works.

Then tidied my bedroom.

The man in the works was on the phone, perhaps to his boss saying '' yes she's ill, she's in another room I've hardly seen her '' then started a massive coughing fit. I was torn, get out and leave all the stuff! Carry on?

I carried on but the bag is in quarantine! Selfish git... Also whilst there were few people around, I noticed people coming close to me. Walking close, one lady got really close in sainsbury talking about paracetamol!

I've tried to smile and chat at loads of old people today. Maybe patronising .... But had lots of lovley smiles back.

Re the screaming about a tsunami, what's surprised me most is the sheer 'vitriol' of some People, so agaisnt anyone talking about it. Viciously rubbishing it.
Closing conversation down.

One person saying '' it's all an absolute nonsense it will blow over by Easter ''

It's one thing to be optimistic...

I too stocked up on printer paper.

Turned my mind to dc pants, socks... One may need more socks and I'm thinking about running the clarkes gauntlet to buy shoes. She only has school shoes and boots.

I'm a name changer too and have been dipping in and out for a while since brexit threads.

Oh and I'm very exited I managed to buy eggs and my next move is to freeze them for cakes.

I feel for anyone in the most important years of their education. Apart from missing exams, they are missing vital milestones in their lives too 😢

My teen is actually quite upset at the prospect of no school for a longtime, although being off school seemed fun at first now she is worrying about some of her teachers etc. She’s actually quite close to quite a few of them and it’s hitting home that she will be missing a big part of her life for potentially months!

The mental impact of this virus can not be underestimated!

Well, I have only just got to the end of 15 and not got further than a couple of sentences in this...

I have spent most of the day cajoling a boy to do school work. it has been fraught.

Going back to read the thread now.

Could someone say when should we actually stop buying and deliveries from outside?

@VenetoResident how do you buy things there now? Are the shops open? How risky it is to buy fresh produces and do we need to give a soapy wipe down for everything we buy like fruits and veggies? It’s all getting confusing now and it will be very helpful if you can give an idea of what has become the new usual there so we know what to expect..

@lifesave I have not been out much for the past couple of weeks but I can understand people not taking anything seriously. I have avoided supermarkets and have upped my online deliveries until now for the past few weeks. But have no delivery slots available now. That sheer vitriol is getting too much - mocking at people who are taking extra precautions like wearing gloves etc I’m so scared that it may get more worse in the coming times.

Non food items I have prepped so far is few age appropriate simple family games (dd is 5), things like brush pack, couple of largish A2 messy pad papers, washable supertips, some nice books (she already has many that has to be finished) . I ordered some couple of weeks ago from
Amazon and hobby craft. If you have little kids like mine I would suggest you buy the story dices, dobble game and some gardening/sand/water play toys.

Yesterday's numbers - 2,629 medical professionals infected in Italy.

The number of healthcare professionals infected with coronavirus in Italy has risen to 2,629, or 8.3% of total cases, as of March 17, according to a report drafted by the Foundation Gimbe which is based on data of the Superior Health Institute (ISS).

8.3% of total cases is more than double the percentage of the Chinese cohort.

Shops are all open 'as normal'.

Honestly I haven't been wiping anything down.

Where we can I buy large quantities still in boxes - e.g six packets of pasta (we have no food shortages at all).

I spray alcohol on my hands whilst out.

Then I get home and wash my hands. Unpack and wash again.

There's very little that gets used straight away / isn't in packaging. Most stuff goes in the fridge / freezer or is a multipack. So it won't be touched again for a few days.

When we're handling food we wash our hands a lot and that's all that's coming in at the moment.

But... neither DH or I have any pre-existing health conditions so perhaps I'm more lax than most need to be.

@VenetoResident thank you for your reply. It’s actually very informative. All your posts makes me less anxious and prepares me well ahead to know what to expect. How long does alcohol based hand gel needs to be reapplied btw? I just have very less and I think I might run out of it before shtf

@WhereDoWeGo we are all in the same boat. So don’t feel alone. We are all here x it’s just one week of me having dd at home and I feel so exhausted by 6 pm (This is with Dh at home for help - he is doing job search) so imagine our plight if this continues for another few months

I knew it was coming but the schools shutting has really brought it home and upset me. Such a change to their lives. We are very lucky to have a lovely little school and being a part of it is such a positive thing for the kids. They're resilient and excited, but I'm really sad about it and what it signifies.

I’m due at a virtual family conflab but will pop back.

@VenetoResident You have been simply amazing keeping us updated. I am so sorry the situtaion is so horrid in Italy and my heart breaks every day we see the figures.

@Legoandloldolls I also feel heartbroken re: schools. Even though it's what I wanted. I have decided to pull DD out now. Her school is partially closed and she'd be in a class of 60-90 tomorrow . She's angry with me and DH for social reasons.

This is a big adjustment for all of us. I too have received warning about a lock down and I know I'm going to feel unnerved when it happens, although I want it.

I have had a dreadful day for shopping. Ocado has taken their website offline. God knows if i'll get anything on Friday. I had to venture into the shops and ended up helping a very elderly lady with her shopping but there was nothing to be had. I had to hold it togther until I left the shop to cry.

I haven't really posted but have been lurking since thread 1. Thanks for all the helpful advice and discussion, we stocked up over a few weeks and have been able to avoid the panic buying.

I'm just wondering what others are telling younger children. I have a DD aged 3.6, who goes to nursery three times a week, and is used to a couple of trips to soft play / a local attraction we gave season tickets for. I'm not really sure whether to try and explain, or just keep telling her they're closed and hope she accepts it.

She has a good understanding, she knows about coughs being catching (thanks Peppa Pig!), but she is a bit of an anxious child.

It's been a very draining day. Elderly relatives. I'm so worried for them. The impact on their mental health too. They had heads in sand and now penny's dropped and they're upset and panicking. I hope the government sorts something out asap for the vulnerable. Priority deliveries for the elderly and those with underlying conditions. They should've done this already.

Me too with thinking I've forgotten something. We've enough food even if it gets boring but I get this feeling there's a non food thing I've missed. I need to check my vitamin and supplements stock tomorrow. Could do with some more just in case. Also hoping GP will do another month's repeat meds.

Wouldn't it lovely to go to bed and wake up tomorrow from a very bad dream... I wish this would all go away.

I'm very glad if these threads. Being amongst people who understand. Too many are still refusing to accept reality.
