Just realised we’re running low on hand soap! We have china dispensers that I refill occasionally from a large Ecover bottle. Have been handwashing so much they’re getting empty and the next Ocado slot isn’t till Sunday evening. Doh.

On the tissue front, I’ve heard that a runny nose is not a feature of coronavirus.

QuietlyTerrified · 05/03/2020 12:27

Thanks HasaDigaEebowai

I guess it would do for a cup of tea in an emergency situation! I dont have sugar in tea so it might be a bit sweet for me but it would do! Grin

Still in stock it is 5 litres though but £29.99 free delivery. It's 65%. I saw an equivalent on ebay last night for £89.99Shock

ofwarren and WitchDoc I am in a similar place for similar reasons. Right now I’m dealing with my real difficulty believing this is actually happening, it’s quite a normal adjustment reaction and I expect it to pass and I will become very practical again.

I’ve been yearning for a large garden and this situation makes me realise I really want to work towards that in the future. Thankfully we do have a little outside space and I’ve been thinking about how to make the most of that.

I’m having an initial think about the shape of the day if we were off school for several weeks, or even until September.

When very difficult things have cropped up for me I’ve sometimes coped well and sometimes not very well at all. It’s worth taking time now to reflect on what I did right or wrong before.

Counting my blessings always seems to help and one of them is not needing to shop now if I don’t want to so I can avoid both “panic buyers” and tutting “non panic” shoppers Grin

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 05/03/2020 12:54

YY to trying to count blessings.

When I opened doors at the hospital with my coat sleeve pulled over my hand I was thankful that I am so small that my sleeves are always too long for me (an irritant in the past!) When I read about social distancing I am thankful that I am a terrible introvert and would quite happily stay alone in the house for fifty two weeks with my kindle, and that my DC are old enough to be happy with Netflix and FIFA

@QuietlyTerrified perhaps it is too early to make a decision on an August holiday? I wouldn't go away without insurance though and personally would rather cancel in those circumstances.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 05/03/2020 12:54

Well fifty two weeks was clearly a Freudian slip BlushGrin

Castoreum · 05/03/2020 12:59

On the tissue front, I’ve heard that a runny nose is not a feature of coronavirus.

In this case I think the tissues are for coughing into to avoid spreading germs, not for a runny nose.

KundaliniRising · 05/03/2020 13:14

News in the Express.....

Coronavirus mutates - and new more aggressive strain behind up to 70% of infections

wherearemychickens · 05/03/2020 13:37

I like the idea of a 'flu box' with a collection of what you might need to get you through in one place. So far my list is juice cartons, tissues, vitamins c & d, zinc lozenges, licorice sticks/tea, paracetamol and dry cough medicine, and a thermometer. What else would you include? At the moment these things are all over my house so putting them in one place together feels like a good idea. What food would be good?

Destinysdaughter · 05/03/2020 13:42

Bloke on Vine show saying he's got a year's supply of food! Think he's in Australia.

ofwarren · 05/03/2020 13:42

Just waiting for my ASDA delivery. The only thing missing is Dettol wipes, which I have 6 packs of so I'm ok about that.
They also swapped antibac hand wash for normal, but again that's fine.
Phew

WitchDoc · 05/03/2020 13:44

Ignore my previous posts. This is what I would do if I lived on my own with the DC.
DH has just told me we'll be following government guidelines re; pulling DC out of school. So that's that then.
WIBU to LTB?!

WitchDoc · 05/03/2020 13:46

I hope your dreams of a large back garden come true @Neome

MoonlightMistletoe · 05/03/2020 13:48

Just remembered when I had no appetite after having my first child I had these sachets full of vitamins. You can mix with either water or milk - milk is nicer so if you have long life milk in your stash that will taste nicer than water imo.
This link is the strawberry but you can get other common flavours like chocolate and vanilla, I also think I remember a chicken or veg soup version.

Another thing is protein powder for shakes may be handy if things get hard or like I mentioned appetite is low.

MissusMaker · 05/03/2020 13:49

@wherearemychickens how about lemsip? Vick vapour rub? Hot water bottle.

Squirrelonwheels · 05/03/2020 13:51

I’m finding it hard to know when to start taking advantage of my stocks and not going out to the supermarket. If the plan is to delay the inevitable spread of the virus then it may be weeks/months before it reaches some areas. So for now I’m still going shopping (and trying to resist adding too much to my stocks!) but then I don’t know if that’s being silly and the whole point of stocking up is to be able to avoid going to places like the supermarket. Argh. I know nobody knows, just musing!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/03/2020 13:52

It's a weird feeling to be able to say thanks to horrors of a potential no deal brexit, I've not had to worry about buying anything like loo roll. Being able to leave it and items like paracetamol for others was quite a relief when I went to the supermarket this morning. It's not a smug feeling at all, I don't feel at all superior or anything, I just am grateful that there is more for others.

I did witness some quite scared conversations and feel a little bit shaken by the atmosphere. In Hong Kong though, after the initial panic buying happened, reports are that it settled again and there were supplies after a couple of weeks. So we just need to breathe and take time to look after our own mental health amongst it all. I've had tea and a mini roll and feel a bit better. I'll find a nice old comedy film for tonight I think.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 05/03/2020 13:54

@ringsnthings thanks for the link - looks like it’s out of stock now 🙁. Appreciate your efforts.

Destinysdaughter · 05/03/2020 13:58

Delivery drivers on Vine show giving anecdotes of a £600 super market delivery and one bloke who had 96 toilet rolls delivered! There's definite panic buying starting now...

Destinysdaughter · 05/03/2020 14:01

It was mentioned earlier that essential oils such as eucalyptus etc can help relieve symptoms. Worth getting?

@Destinysdaughter can you still watch vine? I thought they were shut down a while ago ..

pemberlyshades · 05/03/2020 14:03

It's that time of day again...

Brodrick · 05/03/2020 14:06

I wouldn't go. My dd is supposed to be going next weekend to dance I have told her she cant go. Not worth the risk

FuckThisWind · 05/03/2020 14:06

Jeremy Vine not Jeremy Kyle.

Rather different programmes.
