Abortion tablets

I recently found out I was pregnant after splitting with my partner and have decided to have an abortion.
Due to covid, I've had the tablets posted out to me..

I had the first tablet today and will be taken the next 6 tomorrow but I've read in the booklet that you can either put them up your vagina or put them in your mouth however the mouth option can cause more sickness / diarrhoea..

Just wondering if anyone did the mouth option and how they felt and how bad the side effects were etc..

Hi everyone,
How are you all doing? I’ve got the tablets and am planning on taking the first one tomorrow evening.

I’m so apprehensive though. I keep reading all the side effects.

I had a m/c a couple of years ago and the bleeding was slow to start, but quickly stepped up.
Is this a lot of bleeding from the onset? I don’t have any strong painkillers, they didn’t prescribe any. I might pop to the pharmacy and stock up on something a little stronger....

What a year 2020 is Sad

How is everyone doing? Sorry for not replying sooner op. I don't seem to get notifications. I only took the four and bled very quickly- my bleeding lasted three weeks. I then tested positive so had to have another test sent out which was negative. I didn't find the bleeding too bsd- also have children at home so didn't want them to notice anything was wrong but it was easy to manage.

QuirkyUsernameHere · 30/04/2020 13:09

@sunandrose I'm doing good thank you! I was worried about reading all the effects but I was fine , thankfully! Do you know how far gone you are? I was only 5/6 week which could be why mine wasn't so bad?
Urm the bleeding started after about 1.5-2 hours after the first four tablets, was quite steady and then after I took the last two that's when it started pretty heavy.

@gingerbeerandlemonade did you not take the other two after the four? That may be why the test was positive xx

sunandrose · 30/04/2020 13:10

Glad you finally got a negative @gingerbeerandlemonade

How long was it until you started bleeding? What about when things came away?
I’m trying to time it all for their bedtime x

sunandrose · 30/04/2020 13:12

I’m about 7.5/8 weeks... it’s taken me a while to decide what to do.

The nurse said that as I’ve had two vaginal deliveries, including giving birth 9 months ago then my cervix should still be fairly open and hopefully it wouldn’t be too painful....

I really am dreading this I’m pretty confident I’ll go through with it and it’s the right decision. X

QuirkyUsernameHere · 30/04/2020 13:14

@sunandrose as long as you're happy that this is the right thing for you to do, that's the main thing.
I knew straight away I was going to have an abortion.
I've never wanted kids and probably will never have them so always said if an accident was to happen, then I'd know what to do. They always say contraception isn't 100% but we're lucky that we're given this option to be able to have abortions

Hi, how’s everyone getting on?

@northnorth how did the consultation go?

@sunandrose is it the process you are worried about? It really wasn’t that bad and I was 9+2. I’ve also had 3 vaginal births so that might have helped

@QuirkyUsernameHere I also knew straight away that I was going to have an abortion without a flicker of doubt but kind of for opposite reasons. My family is more than complete - my second pregnancy turned out to be twins and I’ve always struggled to give 3 kids the attention they need. I’ve always been resentful of families with 2 children and that I was never given the opportunity for that, so there is no way I’m going to bring a 4th (and potentially 5th given I’m predisposed to twins) into the mix

I hope everything goes well for you all x

QuirkyUsernameHere · 02/05/2020 08:01

@TingTastic yep all good here thank you!

It's just like a period now so nothing much to report here.. occasion get the little clot of blood, like tiny ones but yeah.. all okay here 👍🏼

Hope everyone else is doing okay ❤️

Hi everyone,

@TingTastic the consultation was very quick and easy. Had that Thursday and my nurse telephone consultation was booked for the next day (yesterday). This morning I received the pills in the post so overall it’s been a very quick process.

I must admit I have not taken the first pill yet to get the process started. Mainly because I need to go and stock up on sanitary towels and painkillers but also because of doubt. I guess in different circumstances I would have this baby which makes it so hard but ultimately I know an abortion is the right decision.

I hope everyone is okay ! This thread has really helped knowing there are other ladies out there going through the same thing and that I’m not alone xxx

sunandrose · 02/05/2020 13:27

Hi,
I’m glad they got the tablets to you quickly north.
I’m in a similar situation. I have the tablets here but I’m so worried that I just don’t know if I can do it. I know it’s the right choice deep down but taking the tablet is just so unknown.
I’ve got a call from the nurse scheduled for Tuesday when I’ll be 9 weeks. I need to do it before then. Not sure if I would feel more comfortable doing it all on Sunday/Monday when the hospital is open....

Oh I wish we could all have a magic wand to make this go away!

@TingTastic thanks- that’s reassuring and backs up what the nurse said.

I feel the same, I wouldn’t wish this on anyone but good to share our feelings.

Lots of love x

QuirkyUsernameHere · 02/05/2020 14:09

@northnorth you're definitely not alone!

Did they send you codiene in your pack?

@sunandrose what do you mean, when the hospital is open? In case anything happens and you needed to go?
There's an aftercare number which is 24 hours as well if you went through BPAS, if not there's always 111 to call.

To be honest, it wasn't clear in the booklet which is why I ended up phoning them.

The nurse said that if you start bleeding inbetween taking your 4 tablets and then the final 2, you should take the last two orally because if you put them up and you're bleeding, they will come out with the blood. Sorry if TMI..

Xx

Hey girls can I join? (name changed so this doesn't link to my others)
Found out I was pregnant last week. After a LOT of hard thinking I decided to ring BPAS for a termination (hardest decision I've ever made as I have always said ill never have one - I have 2 DC and its just not the right time for another right now)
Rang on Monday, telephone consultation Wednesday. Tablets received yesterday.
Took it early afternoon.
Its now been 3 and a half hours since inserting the 1st lot of meds (and 2nd lot half hour ago)
Cramps are getting worst and started to slightly bleed.
Im sat in tears wondering what have I done and starting to feel slightly guilty.
I've send DP to the shop to buy me a load of chocolate/sweets/fizzy drink (comfort food!) - alongside a normal shop we need of course..
Is anyone else emotional about it? Please tell me I'm not the only one

QuirkyUsernameHere · 02/05/2020 18:17

@Namechangecrazy2020 don't worry!

OP posts:
QuirkyUsernameHere · 02/05/2020 18:18

@Namechangecrazy2020 sorry I posted before I'd finished! 😂

I went to Tesco the day before mine and bought looooooooads of sweets and chocolates.
Did you get any codiene in your pack?

Have you taken the final two yet? X

OP posts:
Namechangecrazy2020 · 02/05/2020 18:55

No, no codeine as im allergic!
Rotating Paracetamol and Ibuprofen every 2 hours and currently have a hot water bottle, but still can feel the cramps :(
Yes. I had the final 2, two hours ago now.

How are you feeling? X

QuirkyUsernameHere · 02/05/2020 19:38

@Namechangecrazy2020 oh no! I don't wanna rub your face in it but when I took the codeine I had no pains at all after that.

Are they like period pains or worse?

I'm okay now, it's just like a period to be honest.
I suffer with depression and anxiety as well and I'm really surprised how well I've been with it.
I knew 100% straight away this is what I wanted anyway so wasn't a thought in my mind.
Just split up from my partner, 26 and really not wanting kids now or anytime in the future so... I know abortion isn't birth control but accidents happen so. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think you're probably over the worst of it to be fair.. if you've had the last two I think by bed time hopefully it should have calmed down

Hope you're okay though.. if you need anything just reply on here or you can private message me hun xx

OP posts:
TingTastic · 02/05/2020 20:04

@Namechangecrazy2020 I had quite a few cramps too but they got better after I passed a couple of large clots after a few hours. I managed to get to sleep ok that evening and the pain was basically gone when I woke up in the morning so hopefully it won’t last too long now. Chocolate definitely helps! I hope you’re feeling better by now xx

Namechangecrazy2020 · 02/05/2020 20:09

I've been sat down (ive got a recliner sofa so put the feet up) DPs put a film on, everytime I stand up I feel it coming if that makes sense?
Hes just made me another hot water bottle and sending me to bed for some sleep, whilst he cleans up, so I'm thankful for that!
Thankyou for replying it means a lot x

QuirkyUsernameHere · 02/05/2020 21:13

@Namechangecrazy2020 yeah I know what you mean.. I found the next morning was worse as gravity must take its toll when you've been sat down / laid down 😂😂

Aw bless him, he sounds like a good egg!

I hope you get a good nights sleep. I've not slept right for the past five week.
The best night sleep I had was Tuesday when I took the 6 tablets.. I slept through then the next night it was back then normal.

I did find that Wednesday, I woke up feeling fresh and like a new woman, and felt happier.
I don't know if that was because I'd got a good nights sleep or if psychologically it was all over etc I don't know..

Xx

OP posts:
sunandrose · 02/05/2020 21:49

How are you doing @Namechangecrazy2020? How bad are the cramps? Hope you manage some sleep.
I think I will feel the same as you- I’m already wondering why I’m doing this but it has to be. Hopefully once you’re through with the process you’ll be able to find some peace with your decision. The nurse I spoke to last week said that you always need to remember that the choice was based on what you felt right at the time. Be kind to yourself.

I’ve stocked up on paracetamol and the nurofen with codeine. Also have some stronger codeine prescribed when I had awful headaches in my last pregnancy so hopefully that will do the job.

I didn’t go through BPAS. I rang our local sexual health clinic as that’s what came up in the google search for our area and it’s part of the hospital. It’s not 24 hours but looked in my bag and I have an out of hours no to call for the emergency gynae ward if things get bad. Not sure 111 would be doable at the moment- it took me 3 hours to get through a couple of weeks back when my baby had tonsillitis.

I’m all set to take them tomorrow. I’ve got to. I’m devastated but for so many reasons and anxieties on my part- my first labour was very traumatic so my last pregnancy was just one big worry, topped with the virus uncertainties to pretty much all areas of life, timing and so many other factors, this sadly has to happen.

Thinking of everyone Flowers

Namechangecrazy2020 · 02/05/2020 23:05

Im doing okay. I passed it at half 8. Hit with a wave of emotions, sad but also relieved, very surreal.
The pains were not as bad as I anticipated to be honest. Just a bad period cramp/early labour contractions.
Finally getting to bed now to try get some sleep. I ended up watching Britain's got talent to take my mind off everything.

You'll be okay @sunandrose I think I worked myself up over nothing.
Thankyou again @QuirkyUsernameHere xx

sunandrose · 02/05/2020 23:09

Oh I’m so pleased it’s over for you @namechange.
I hope you get some sleep tonight x

I’ve actually woken up today and feel that today is the day. I need to get this sorted. I’m planning on taking the first tablet at 6pm.

Does anything happen after the first one? X
