Booked for medical abortion and scared of the unknown

I'm 39 and 4+4 at the minute. I have only been with my bf 5 weeks and unfortunately got pregnant the first time we slept together. He knows and is being supportive as he can be. I'm booked in on 29th for 1st pill and back on 30th for 2nd lot. I'm so scared of the pain and bleeding . So many horror stories online. I know this is the right decision ut im so so terrified. Can anyone help shed some light on this..... help me settle my mind. X

Try to not worry. But for heavens sake, use a condom if a baby is not wanted, it only takes that one time Smile

Anyway, I'll stop being a nag. You're 4+4 so it should be straight forward darling. Just take it day by day and try not to worry (easier said than done, I know)

Pain and bleeding not so painful (heavy clots might persist though) also be prepared for throwing up at the same time though.

We did use protection. Just stupidly unlucky. I've been on pill for years. So its not as bad as all the stories online?

My experience is different as it was a medical miscarriage but procedure the same although i was a few weeks further along. The pain was over very quickly after the sac was passed and was managed ok with codeine. The bleeding was not too bad after the main event was over, it was managed fine with always night pads. The bad bit was over in half an hour really. Everyone is different of course but at 5/6 weeks there wont be so much to pass so if you have good painkillers ready it should be unpleasant but tolerable. Wishing you all the best for the procedure

Lizzy im not so much worried just scared. It's the only decision to take at the minute.

Thank you katsandkits. So night pads are way to go? What im also scared of is I have to travel to get to clinic. If I take tablets at clinic how soon after will everything to start. I'm a nervous traveller at best of you me due to ibs.

Feeling scared is normal darling. Reading horror stories online won't help, I learnt that the hard way

Personally I would be going for the op not the pill, for me the pill was awful. Way more painful than actual labour (I wasn't induced). I'm not trying to scare you I just wish I had been told

yup - can't remember if it's when the first/second lot of pills kick in - but it's nothing to be scared off and probably a lot less scary than the non medical type.

Cause my bmi I only have option of pill or surgical with no sedation.

Ah looks like I'm in the minority though so maybe I'm a rare case, I was in hospital and they gave me pethidine which helped a lot if that's any use x

I went for surgical as i wanted it over and done with when i left, i didn't want to have to deal with effectively miscarring at home on my own. I still cramped badly for a few days and bled for well over a week.

They offered me G&A (i think, it was a long time ago, and i honestly wasn't paying attention - but it was definitely something to basically make me go a bit doolally for the procedure but be awake) or a general, it's quite common apparently to not use general when they can, and apparently women don't have any memory of the procedure (i went for general in any case).

My emotional response surprised me, partly hormonal i think, and despite never planning to do anything different from when i found out, it really threw me for a good few months (the horrible bf at the time not helping) - just be prepared to be a bit wobbly afterwards, even when you know it is the right thing for you.

I would see if they'll do the sedation if if you have medical that you'll be in hospital for it, for reasons whispers has mentioned, if not I'm sure you'll be fine but make sure someone's with you just incase you need the support

I've been told ill be sent home once taken the second pills so I need to travel home

Journey is about 50 min to an hour.

Fair enough, have a look at this it might answer some questions, also speak to someone in person/on the phone from there to go through things and make sure you are making the decision that you want, not a short term BF. At 29 you're an adult you have to do what is best for you and everyone experiences it differently, be prepared for a very bad period as a starting point.
