Hi everyone!

Well, I got my BFP on Friday morning and it is only just starting to sink in! According to my dates I am due 2nd Feb and I thought it would be nice to have a Feb babies thread, where we can all share our news/worries/excitement!

Cant wait to hear from you

suzym1984 I'd wait until you have your card for the dentist, although I think mine just trusted me and didn't ask to see it. She was very good and made sure she squeezed in the max no. of appts to fit in with the card's expiry date. If you are going soon, make sure you let the dentist know anyway so he/she won't do an x-ray.

debka · 07/06/2010 20:14

Anyone else really fancy spicy food? Went to Sains today and couldn't stop piling in the chillies and lime mmmmm my mouth is watering just thinking of it......

Dee36 · 07/06/2010 20:19

welcome to everyone and thanks KnitterNotTwitter for your great post...

Newdad welcome and I'm loving the spreadsheet idea.. would be good if there was a way of posting it so we could all see ?

HazB2010 we've thought about an early (well 8 or 9 weeks) scan privately to reassure us before telling people but they are £100 where we are and we reckon we'd be better saving the money to put towards something more practical.. but at times I'm itching to do it..

Been a bit quiet the last few days as had a really bad tummy bug and just hoping the worst is past now as I'm off to Europe for a work trip for the rest of the week..but at least when I get back I'll be 7 weeks fingers crossed

SuzyM1984 still loving how many tests you've done - I've only done 2 but am contemplating another tomorrow just to reassure myself. Still getting odd twinges in the lower tummy and was shattered yesterday - didn't get off the couch all day but not sure if that was the tummy bug or not.

Am sure I'll be cursing wishing for more symptoms in a few days time..

p.s Starflowergirl so sorry about your news. Make sure you take time to look after yourself in the next few weeks.

Wow - this thread is growing faster than I can read.....yes - I'm a v. slow reader *(right - mental note to start logging on from work).

Have added myself to the list - Newdad, you must be building quite a spreddie by now.

Hazb - I'm defo going for an early preg scan, I was looking at the baby bond site yesterday and think i'm going to book in for when I am 8 weeks. There's no way I can wait until 12-14 weeks (i'm only 4+3 now!), its just for piece of mind I think, that there is a heart beat etc.

RachelPross · 07/06/2010 21:00

Hi all, I had my BFP on Thursday afternoon, this will be baby no 3 for us and I'm v excited. I've suspected for about 2 weeks that I may be pregnant as I have had sore boobs and been a bit nauseous.

Feeling better now I have the nausea under control, boobs are still niggling though.

How're you all feeling?

RachelPross · 07/06/2010 21:02

Thank you for adding me to the list age is 33 and online calculator shows 8th Feb. will hopefully be given a due date when see the Dr. this week.
Congratulations to all the other people that have recently joined.
15wks! for a scan, if that's the case for myself I think I'll be looking into one of the private ones recommended in this thread - thanks.

newdad75 · 07/06/2010 21:12

Hi again all,

So to answer a couple of questions - MissTFied - no she is not active on the thread, though she's asked me to point out that she is "lurking".

MrsTeapot - please get Mr.T to join, it would be great to have the solidarity

debka - I'm going to expose my ignorance here as I have no idea what the "Birth Plan" is. But I'm sure I'll work something up on it once I've found out some more

Have also now updated the sheet with the new info. (Still waiting for Pink10 and pipsicles, but we've had a couple of small changes - Average age has gone up to 32.4 and average kids to - 1.7.

As for symptoms, I can reliably report that while she has been very tired recently, The Good Lady is not feeling any nausea, though she does have the same soreness a lot of you have shown. Also her sense of smell has gone haywire (though that could just be my socks). No metallic taste but she has found she's been more hungry lately and has developed a liking for peanut butter and jam on toast (not sure about the peanuts!).

Thanks again for all the advice, please keep it coming.

That's it for now

newdad75 · 07/06/2010 21:25

Sorry Pink10 and RachelPross, have now updated again:

Average age is now 32.4 and average kids - 1.9

Thanks

newdad75 · 07/06/2010 21:26

Meant to write - 33.9...

RachelPross · 07/06/2010 21:50

I'm 30 btw

clareanna · 07/06/2010 22:12

newdad they now recommend peanuts in moderation! there is no clear evidence that not eating peanuts in pregnancy has any effect on whether a child develops a nut allergy - so bring on the sunpat!
look at www.food.gov.uk/safereating/allergyintol/peanutspregnancy on the Food Standards Agency website for more info

KnitterNotTwitter · 07/06/2010 22:22

Updated with Pink10 and RachelPross's numbers and I've put everyone back in due date order....not that I've got minor OCD or anything....

KnitterNotTwitter · 07/06/2010 22:31

NewDad A birth plan is where you write down your preferences for the actual birth itself. You discuss this with your midwife before the big day and then give it to whoever is with you to deliver your child when the time comes. It's an expression of your wishes and so while your midwife will read it and take it in it is no guarantee that you'll get the home-water-birth that you dream of.

This is mostly because the one person who doesn't read it is the baby - and they're the one in charge of the situation. Thus if they fancy being born on the hard shoulder of the dual carriage way on the way to the hospital then that is where baby will be born. Mind you you never hear of it going wrong for babies delivered in the back of the car.... probably the safest place to give birth statistically.... don't know why more mum's don't choose it TBH!!

pipsicles · 07/06/2010 22:55

IT's taken me ages to read all this - I only logged on 24 hours ago!!!

I have the doctors booked for tomorrow - DH is coming with me. I'm hoping he might be able to help me date it because my last AF was 6th April!!! I think I missed an AF and then got pg without even realising I'd started again. Had spotting last Sunday and symptoms kicking in since then, so really doubt that I'm any further along than 4+4, but it's frustrating not knowing, esp as I'm the only one with all the question marks! newdad (also a fan of the spreadsheet!), to fill in the other gaps, this is DC#1 and I'm currently 26 (27 in three weeks) Hopefully, I can replace my ?? with real numbers tomorrow!

I think I'm going to trundle of to bed now - been telling myself that for the last 45mins! I've been on the phone all evening - a good friend with 2 of her own, and the future great-grandparents who I had to hold the phone a foot from my ear for the squealing from one of them!!!

It's good getting to know you all. Hope you all have a good day tomorrow.

earlgreyismynectar · 07/06/2010 23:06

Hello everyone and wecome newbies!

newdad75 a birth plan is what you spend the last few months pouring over, tweaking the details, considering everything only to completely disregard once labour actually begins (well in my experience anyway!). With regards to when to tell people, the standard is 12 weeks after the first scan, certainly for employers. Whatever feels right to you both. I am waiting till 20 weeks for the anomaly scan where much more detail can be given and certain potential conditions can only be determined at this scan. My reasons for waiting for this are two-fold, I'm 39 and therefore classed as in the older and (potentially) higher risk group (I feel about 20 but that's beside the point!). The other reason is purely work related which I won't bore everyone with, but there is method to my madness. A lot of my good friends are in my work place and they too won't find out till then. I confided in a good friend at 6 weeks with my last pregnancy and then officially announced it at 12 weeks only to discover that my friend couldn't contain her excitement and had already passed the news on to a number of people (little did I know at the time!) so i've had my fingers burnt in that respect!! I have told my mum and my sister and a couple of friends outside the work loop and that's it. I fully intend to keep it a secret till 20 weeks and have some cunning clothing solutions lined up! I'm confident I can do it but I'll certainly keep you all posted!

I have my booking in appt with the midwife at 10 weeks which is in the middle of July. I'll just have to wait till then to discover when I get my first scan, hope it's at 12 weeks!! If not I would look into an earlier scan hazB but depends if I can justify the cost as others have said! Doubtful as I'm putting my flat on the market next month so all my spare cash & energy will be going in a property direction (am I mad?). This was planned before the pregnancy!

mrs teapot prima ballerinas are we! :-)

Same symptoms as before but thankfully no more excruciating stabbing pains! Great to hear of others similar symptoms!

All for now!

suzym1984 · 08/06/2010 07:08

Earlgrey DH and I have our house on the market too....we must be mad! But I hope it all gets sorted before the baby gets here!

applecharlotte I soooo want to book a private early scan, but DH isnt keen, he doesnt understand why I cant just wait! So I will try and talk him round....
To justify the cost, I will tell him that 9 months of me not drinking, and being a glorified taxi driver, will easily save us £100!

Have a lovely day everyone!

OP posts:
applecharlotte · 08/06/2010 10:08

Morning Mama's (+ Papa!),

Can anyone else not drink coffee? I used to have one v v strong cup in the morning but now if I try a sip it tastes like poison! Its so amazing what pregnant bodies do.. I'm a bit in awe.

So i've only told my sister, who was very excited. Think I'm going to have an early scan at 8 weeks and depending on how that goes tell my mum then wait until 12 week scan for the rest.

I went to the doc's last wednesday and he was going to refer me to the midwife at the local hospital, can anyone tell me when I should hear from them? I'm so impatient.

suzym - ooh I like that thinking, you're right we're going to save quite a bit of cash not boozing. I might try and justify some new clothes on those terms!

KnitterNotTwitter · 08/06/2010 10:30

applecharlotte I'm avoiding all caffine while pregnant - sounds like your body is asking you to avoid it too!

I was told to expect my letter inviting me to my 12 week scan to arrive by Tuesday next week - excited to get a date in the diary. With DS1 we got caught up over Xmas and had the scan at nearly 14 weeks - will be nice to see this one sooner!

Feel rubbish today - mildly nausious and very bloated - the total opposite to Sunday! No actual sickness though...

banana87 · 08/06/2010 10:40

Anyone else wondering if they are actually pregnant for lack of symptoms?

I am tired as anything and could easily sleep all day, have no appetite, and very sore breasts BUT that is it!!

In total denial here...

KnitterNotTwitter · 08/06/2010 10:52

banana87 Yep - I felt totally not-pregnant on Sunday, not even any of the symptoms you mention. Came back with avengance on Monday though!

grumpling · 08/06/2010 11:11

banana87 - yes, my only symptoms are cramping and low backache, which is making me constantly worry that I'm MC .
I have had a faint metallic taste and I seem to be really tired and sleeping badly (not to mention emotional!) but none of those are concrete enough, dammit!
So I tested again yesterday and all was well. Told my sister last night and she cried which was all very lovely!
KnitterNotTwitter - are you actually a knitter?? I've started knitting and have found some cute baby patterns by Rowan. I think I'm going to make the bean something once I'm a few more weeks gone ...
I am also tempted by the early scan but suspect that DH will not approve of the expense!
Have good days, ladies (and newdad!).

smallblackflowers · 08/06/2010 11:37

Hi all, I'm feeling really bleurgh today.

Am also tempted by the early scan, and depending on when the '12 week scan' is actually booked for, I may well book in for one. Handed a form in at the docs yesterday that will be passed to the midwife, and then she/he will contact me. Soon I hope. I'm very impatient
I sent off my application for the maternity exemption card yesterday too.

I'm a knitter too, and also into a bit of sewing for my DD - made her a grobag style sleeping bag this week which has saved me a few bob, and some lovely dresses and hats in the past couple of months too. This will probably all end soon, as returning to work full time at the end of July . Roll on February!

newdad75 · 08/06/2010 12:18

Hi All,

Right so the Good Lady, while not an active member of this thread has developed my basic spreadsheet trying to chart our story into something much more attractive (she also works with lots of data and is much better at this than I am ) and I thought I'd share with you.

The images are on the Photo Gallery on my profile but please let me know if you can't see them....
