Hi everyone!

Well, I got my BFP on Friday morning and it is only just starting to sink in! According to my dates I am due 2nd Feb and I thought it would be nice to have a Feb babies thread, where we can all share our news/worries/excitement!

Cant wait to hear from you

Tarlia

It's best to be on the thread that your due date falls - although obviously some people on the feb thread will be 4 weeks 'behind' others.... just means the later ones have advance warning of stuff about to hit them I suppose....

If you're talking 25th April then your due date would be 30th Jan (but you can stay with us rather than join the Jan thread if you want...!)

Or if you're talking 25th of May then your due date wuld be 28th Feb

That is assuming your cycles are normally 28 days long.... The mum's net calculator that varicoseveined posted will do the maths for you....

judyjiggles · 24/06/2010 09:57

Tarlia I think you're just over four weeks pregnant. The date of my last period was 15 May and the doctor said my due date was 20 February so I guess yours must be around 2 March 2011? It is weird how they work it all out - its the first time for me too so I am certainly no expert!

I am so sorry to hear of some of you ladies' news since yesterday.

I had a slightly weird experience yesterday. I feel almost embarassed to say this on this thread - but I have been quite emotional about this pregnancy so far and even though its what we planned, since I have had the news I have been all over the place - sometimes very happy and excited but sometimes frankly quite the opposite.

anyway I went to the doctor yesterday to see if she could refer me to someone to talk to - a counsellor or something - and she said the waiting list was too long but that she could refer me to Marie Stopes for 'pre-termination' counselling, even though I was very clear that this was not what I wanted. The whole thing was a bit upsetting to be honest.

Is anyone else having these feelings of ambivalence or am I on my own here? Like I said I feel almost embarassed to say this on this thread because I know how exciting it all is and you ladies seem very sure that this is the right thing for you.

cler · 24/06/2010 10:01

Hi Tarlia. If the first day of period was 25th, 40 weeks from there would give you a due date of mar 1st.
Im feeling so tired all the time and im looking forward to reaching the stage where you get lots of energy back because i just feel so lazy at the moment but cant help it.

angels1 · 24/06/2010 10:04

judyjiggles I think this is normal. Our baby was very very planned and I really want children (this is 1st but mc last yr) but I get moments where I think 'cripes, what am I doing?' I'd never get a termination, and if I lost this pg I'd be devastated, but I still get jelly leg moments of questioning if i've done the right thing and if I will be able to handle everything etc.

I had an odd experience this morning. You may remember that I've been signed off for 3 weeks with Hypermesis. Got a call from my work place saying HR needed to know what was wrong with me for the records, despite doc writing hypermesis (may have spelt this wrong) on cert. She said she couldn'te tell hr this as they didn't know what it was, and needed to explain to them what exactly it was (can they not look it up if they're that bothered??). I got a very stern message to ring work, and got so worried about what they'd say and if they would be off with me. I started crying uncontrolably and shaking at just the prospect of talking to them (those darn hormones). Anyway, on the face of it they seemed fine, although who know. Still shaking though

anyone else had anything like this with work ever?

judyjiggles · 24/06/2010 10:27

angels1 that sounds really horrendous. if you hand in a sick cert isn't that the end of it? so have you actually spoken to them now? that sounds really unreasonable of them and poor you for feeling so wobbly about it all. i hate work stuff like that its just unnecessary stress.

angels1 · 24/06/2010 10:45

well, I posted them the cert last week and told one of the bosses why I was off (as I felt it right someone knew) and asked him to keep it confidential for time being. I did that by email (too chicken to call). Got nothing back. That was a week or so ago.

I did ring back work this morning (not the main boss who left the stern message but someone else who is important in the company, but slightly more deputy than the person I originally told).

It was odd - she said they needed to know exactly what was wrong with me for payment etc of sick leave. I said it was on the doctors form but I got a comment about it being a medical term and they didn't know what it meant (??? surely they coudlo look it up??). She put the emphasis on the fact that it wasn't her that needed to know, it was HR and head ofice getting her to find out, but I'm not sure. Surely if you have a doctors certificate, then that should be the end of it?? She seemed understanding and said doctors advice to stay at home and rest was good advice, but she tends to say one thing to your face and another to everyone else. Just the whole thing feels odd.

judyjiggles · 24/06/2010 10:50

hmmmmm. That does douns weird. What kind of company do you work for? Might be worth printing off a copy of its sickness and maternity polciy for yourself for reference. Also are you in a union? if yuo get any hassle yuo could talk to them. I'm sure you won't though - companies have to very careful with sickness - theyr can't bully their employees.

Deliaskis · 24/06/2010 10:53

angels1, wow, they're not handling this very well are they? I'm pretty appalled actually that they are querying something on your sick note that is quite easy to look up. As they are not your doctor, I don't see why you should have to have further discussion with them about your condition.

I know some companies, once a person is past a certain number of weeks (not this early, but after e.g. 28 weeks) and is having a lot of time off sick for pregnancy related things, they make them take that time as part of their mat leave, but not this early.

You're right, if you have a Drs cert, that should be the end of it, they don't need to know 'exactly what is wrong', and I guess they are free to consult their own medical expert if they can't find out what it is from Google.

Sorry for you having to put up with this.

D

tabbycat76 · 24/06/2010 11:04

Morning everyone - wow lots to catch up on!

Welcome to all the new mums-to-be! How many are we now?!?!?

Anyway, it would appear the period of 'symptom-free' has gone. I've woken up this morning with a constant nausea feeling tho no sickness yet thank god! My stomach, infact all my abdo muscles (which I assure you are not in anyway toned) feel like I've done a thousand sit ups and when I cough, it feels so tight. Is anyone else feeling this?

As for yesterdays phonecall from the early pregnancy unit.... it didn't happen so no scan appt. I'm really quite shocked because if anyone in early pregnancy was experiencing nasty abdo cramps you'd think they'd see them and scan for reassurance! Anyway, our local midwife is at our GP surgery this afternoon so I'm going to phone her and ask her about this referral and see if she can chase it up. I'm still concerned tho I think to be honest the cramps have turned into nausea which I guess can only be a good thing??

I stayed at my mums last night (who is yet to learn she'll be a grandmummy) and it was so difficult keeping schtum about it! She was expecting me to sleep over during the day to prepare for my night shift. Told her I'd cancelled the shift because of stomach cramps, probably caused by my IBS playing up but then she asked me to help her move some furniture. When I said no, could my brother help instead, I thought, Oh God, she's so going to know! She's quite well tuned in like that! I don't think she'll be surprised when we tell her. Plus my boobs are noticeably bigger so I think she'll know. I'm going to have words with my husband later and see about telling family at the w/e, it's just too hard to excuse everything and keep secrets like that!

So anyway, I'm rambling, sorry guys. I'm hoping to have that scan today at some point and in the meantime I'll continue with the nausea and apply my Bio-Oil! (It arrived today, smells de-lish!)

Have a good day guys!

angels1 · 24/06/2010 11:06

I work in an independant school and had planned to try to get pregnant so as much of the first trimester was in the summer hols on purpose so as to miss as little work as possible when I knew I'd be bad (and luckily the plan worked!). She also used the excuse on her message of needing to know what was wrong so she might have to organise cover for september...but surely with most illnesses/problems you might get signed off for (she didn't know I was pregnant) you wouldn't know until nearer the time if you were fit to work that far in advance anyway.

I can't get the sickness/maternity policy as only on work computers, and asking the person in charge of policies to email it to me will mean ANOTHER person at work will need to know, which I don't want to do at present.

Hmmmmm. Just hope this isn't a sign of things to come...

judyjiggles · 24/06/2010 11:22

Angels1 do you have a friend at work that you trust who could download the policies for you? the policies should be easily and readily available for all employees, not just to the person in charge of policies.

Tabbycat76 its a nightmare having to try and keep it quiet isn't it. This is my first pregnancy and I know how much my mum wants to be a grandma so I am going to be really strict with myself about not telling her until 12 weeks where its all a bit more certain - although i have already told my sister (but sworn her to secrecy!) also - for me its bleedin' obvious because i have a penchant for red wine and cigarettes, both of which are notable by their absence now

tabbycat76 · 24/06/2010 11:33

judyjiggles - so SO hard keeping it quiet. We were going to keep quiet until nearer 12 weeks but since having cramps the other day I don't think it's fair to keep family out of the loop if you'd then want them to help support you and look after you if anything did go wrong. My mums already a grandma once, but keeps saying that since my husband and I got married last Aug, she'll be too old to do anything with our baby by the time we get around to having one! She's 63 so barely old!!! But the pressures there and she knows we've been trying so it's only a matter of time. My husbands brother is also home from NZ today for a couple of weeks so how nice would it be to tell him face to face instead of over the phone or net!?! Dilemmas!

Ok, advice time guys - what would you do if a referral got sent through for a scan yesterday and you still hadn't heard anything today?!?

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 24/06/2010 11:36

Hello!

Joining in thread with some trepidation...

I'm expecting DC#3 on 25 Feb (according to computer calculation) or 26 Feb (according to little wheely thing). Already have DS, 5 (will be 6 by the time DC3 arrives), and DD, 2 (will be nearly 3).

I've had three miscarriages (one before DS, one between DS and DD, and one last Christmas) so always a bit twitchy in the early days (GP said this time "So, this is your sixth pregnancy?" and that sounded like such a lot). Will also not be telling until 12 weeks/NT scan so will have to hide from family in late July/early August, assuming all goes well. I might fork out for a private viability scan at around 8 weeks just for peace of mind as all my miscarriages have been before that.

When I've done this before a lot of people with due dates at the start/end of a month post on both threads. It can be nice to get both perspectives, plus if they move your due date after a scan you don't have to get used to a whole new set of people...

My stomach feels and looks big already. Im just over 8 weeks now. Has anyone elses stomach gone bigger? My kids have both had chicken pox over the last week so its been really tireing with them being poorly and im so happy ive had them already. x

canoe · 24/06/2010 12:09

Afternoon Ladies,

I hope everyone's feeling ok, and i'm really sorry to hear about people's bad news.

I have to say that today I'm feeling a lot better than i have in a while, even though i was way worse first thing this morning, almost throwing up when i first got up, but after managing to force down some breakfast - cheerios are my current choice, i've felt loads better all day. I think the key is to not let myself get hungry, and to keep snacking all through the day, before i feel like eating. The problem with doing this is that i don;t really have any idea how much i'm eating, i used to just snack on fruit between meals, but i now feel like i need more than that.

I can also report that i'm sleeping loads better since starting to wear a bra in bed - I'm wearing a sports bra which is quite old, and therefore a bit stretched, so quite comfy. My DP thought it was quite funny to start with, but as it's so cold here we're both sleeping in thermals anyway so very un sexy!
(I'm in Botswana, and yes that is africa, but it's winter at the moment, below freezing most nights and with no heating or insulation!)

Wishing everyone a good thursday

Tarlia · 24/06/2010 12:19

I'm so sorry to read some of your sad news I just do not know what to say, but I'm sending hugs your way.

Congratulations to the newbies!

Thank you so much for that information, ladies. I didn't realise I'd be classes at just over 4 weeks, I thought it would be just over 2. I'm just a bit baffled, especially since this is the first time I've ever had a BFP! The doctor doesn't want to see me until month three... I made a bit of a fuss and they have said they will see me in two weeks. What sort of care is everyone else getting early on? It will all fall into place, its very early days.

Judy, I think, at least I hope, those are normal feelings, I have them too. It's a huge thing changing from a couple to a family. I guess we all just need it to sink in a little bit?

Hope you are all feeling well today, I'm counting the hours till bedtime. Haha.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 24/06/2010 12:23

I'm sure my breasts are bigger (or fuller/firmer at any rate) and I'm only 5 weeks (ish). I expect to be having some waistband issues by 8 weeks, though; good thing it's summer so can go for nice loose dresses.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 24/06/2010 13:16

Tarlia, in my area we generally get referred for NT scan at around 12 weeks followed by midwife booking-in at around 13 weeks. Then I think nothing more until 21 week scan, then MW appointment at 24 weeks. After that I think it varies according to whether it's your first baby or not (more appointments for the first-timers).

Tarlia · 24/06/2010 13:27

Thank you for that, Professor, you've made me feel a bit better.

I'd just like to discuss things with my doctor or even a nurse, not wait 3 months until he wants to see me! There are things I want to ask. Plus I thought you had to be booked for a scan for around that time..

I thought we'd wait till 12 weeks to tell people, but with lack of medical support maybe we will involve parents and close friends ealier than that. It's lovely to have the support of so many lovely ladies, and dad(s).

Sam2302 · 24/06/2010 14:03

cler I am glad you have said that your stomach feels and looks big. I am 7+1 and stomach is looking a bit on the big side (like I've had a few massive lunches!). Clothes, especially trousers are quite snug and by the end of the day seem to be digging in and causing discomfort! Was surprised as thought most people don't show till 3 months, but I am fairly slim so don't know if stomach is expanding outwards as it has no other room to grow!

xx

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 24/06/2010 14:05

Actually this time my GP did listen to my heart and check my urine before referring me onwards into the system, which no one has done before. Quite handy, in fact, as it turns out I may have a symptomless UTI (have to call back on Monday for the results) which I wouldn't really have wanted to be sitting on until 13 weeks.

tabbycat76 · 24/06/2010 14:20

Ok guys - I have a scan appt at 9.20am tomorrow. Took some persuasion with the midwife at our surgery to get it but got one in the end. I'll be 6+2 so there should be a flicker of a heart beat hopefully. Keep fingers crossed that all goes ok. x

cler · 24/06/2010 14:21

Sam, i was very over weight when i was pregnant with my others but ive lost nearly 7 stone in the last year so i think my belly looks more obvious this time so i prob would agree its more noticable the slimmer you are. I definatly dont have twins in there because i had a scan monday. x

ledkr · 24/06/2010 14:24

Hi all. Can i join the gang? I will be due feb the 6th but will prob have it end of jan cos have to have a c sesction. Its no 5 for me eldest is 25 youngest 8. I have had really bad cramps on and off and have bought those really cheap tests from poundland and do one if im concerned. I too have a huge hard tummy and if i cram it into jeans i get period type pains and also i too have had abdo muscle soreness like ive been doing sit ups which i definately havent. It horrble as i have been wearing loose clothes which make me look fatter and hardly anyone knows so i just look bloated.I was thinking when we go on holiday i will wear a bikini but when people ask when its due i might say i am about 5 months cos i feel so embarrassed.Does anyone else find that their belly is flatter in the mornings and gets bigger throughout the day?I saw Dr yesterday at 8 wks but only as i wanted to make sure i can get all my tests as i am an old bird. Also i know you wee more when pregnant but does anyone else get up to wee about every hour in the night its driving me mad. Thinks thats why belly is flatter in the morning cos i am de hydrated!!
