Hi everyone!

Well, I got my BFP on Friday morning and it is only just starting to sink in! According to my dates I am due 2nd Feb and I thought it would be nice to have a Feb babies thread, where we can all share our news/worries/excitement!

Cant wait to hear from you

babynelly2010 - 2 February

loveablebunny · 12/06/2010 00:13

Only just found this, can i join in please?!!!

EDD 4th Feb, I'm 27, this is my 1st.

Was only first month of trying, didn't expect to be pg so quickly, still doesnt seem real!

Was away on a city break and had a bit of an upset tummy. Thought it was the flight, but it was our little bean!

Symptons so far have been peeing none stop (seriously where does it all come from?!), bouts of diahorrea, sore boobs swelling by the minute (was already DD cup, gonna struggle for bras!) Apart from that don't feel any different, still keep expecting AF to show up.

Just to make things more complicated i am type 2 diabetic, which i found out today means i may have to go to an antenatal clinic every fortnight. So far we've only told our parents but i'm gonna have to fess up at work as the clinic is held every Tuesday morning and i live an hour from work!

Good thing is that the clinic holds special diabetic clinics and the diabetic nurse, dietician, midwife and obstetrician are all in the same team.

Downside is that i'm not really very hungry but have to eat to manage my sugar levels, but the only things i want to eat are those that i shouldn't! Of course there is an upside to this too, i never really stuck to my eating plan before i was pg, but now i have to for the health of my baby, so i'll probably weigh less after giving birth. Not that i'll have any money for new clothes on the measly maternity pay we get!

Sorry if i've babbled, feels good to be ab;e to share!

Interesting to hear about the mucus thing - I was wondering if I am still supposed to be getting it - sbf HOW did you check if your cervix was closed?!?!?!

We're going into town today and as John Lewis is already on the list of shops anyway - I think I might go and find a nice bra lady to help me. I can still fit in my two current ones with the pads out, but will not be able to go to town again for a couple of weeks and don't really want to be without one if I suddenly need it - should I be going up a cup size so I can keep it as a just in case, or should I have it so I can wear it now? So confused - can see a lot of money being spent on these things!!!

The other thing I desperately want to do in town today is to buy my little Peawee an 'acknowledgement' gift (sounds terribly American, I know! - No offense to anyone I hope!). DH is having none of it and says it is far too early to be doing stuff like that, but all I have to prove its existence is 3 little pee sticks!!! He says that after our first scan we can go to Harrods and buy a teddybear (both my brother and sister had Harrods teddies - I was the only one deprived - that will NOT be happening to my children!), but I'm going to keep working on him today! Anyone else done this yet/want to do the same/think I'm a fool?

I struggled with nausea all day yesterday and the only meal I ate without feeling like I was going to hurl was my dinner. Just eaten a box of cherries, which were nice, but still leaving me a bit hmmm.... (My MIL once misquoted Forrest Gump as saying "life is like a bowl of cherries - you never know what you're gonna get" We were all like, "What - apart from a cherry!", but now I'm beginning to wonder if there's some truth in that!!!)

I told the rest of my department at school yesterday too - I really can't keep my mouth shut!!! All week, people have been noticing that I'm not myself, and as someone who is usually ready to share my feelings at the drop of a hat, I've been unusually quiet. I'm so rubbish at lying that I was probably going to let it slip in the very near future anyway. I now just need to tell my head.

My poor cat keeps coming into the study and looking at me like "Hey! You do know it's waaay past my breakfast time don't you?" and I can't do anything - her food smells absolutely vile and even thinking about it now is giving me the dry heaves!!! We only live in a small 2 bed flat and she is an indoor cat and I'm getting a little bit worried about how I'm going to cope with her around - DH will be really sad if we have to get rid of her, even if it's just for a little while. Anyone any similar problems? Honeywitch you said you have a cat, plus kittens on the way - what are you going to do with them all? You must have a very fertile house!!!

Okay, I've been going on and on for ages now, so I'll stop, but hope you all make the most of the fact that it's the weekend. I should be marking books really, but have very little inclination to actually begin!

Happy Saturday!!!

xxx

pinkelehant and earlgrey Thanks for the advice about bras. I will get myself down to John Lewis today I think, my poor swollen boobies deserve some comfort!

As for symptoms, boobies still huge and sore, I feel starving ALL the time and shattered too. I am finding it v v hard to get a good night sleep, weird vivid dreams, getting up to wee and also feeling hot. So I seem to be waking up even more tired than when I went to bed.

I told my head at school yesterday as I need time off for a booking appt and she was lovely. It feels good to have soemone at work know.

Wish me luck with my bra mission today!

Hi ladies, can i join in here? I got my BFP on wednesday. Im 5 weeks and due 14th feb! im 28 and this is my first, we managed to conceive on our first month of not using contraception! I feel tired all the time and my boobs are a bit sore. Have also been having constant stomache cramps, but doc said its just growing pains due to uterus growing. Hope everyone is well xx

pipsicles · 12/06/2010 10:45

Welcome Jane I think you're our 50th member!

I just wanted to log on to say that I've got my scan date through this morning! I am bursting to tell people! It is 30th June, the day after my booking appointment!!! Yay!!!

smallblackflowers · 12/06/2010 10:59

pipsicles at the cherries misquote.

I too have a cat, and can't face the smell of 'wet' cat food on the best of days, so feed her complete dry food as much as possible, and try not to breathe when I'm scooping it out of the bag. DH is responsible for the cat litter, and has been for the last couple of years. He also does cat sick. On the plus side, in my last pg, when I was home on mat leave before DD was born, I found my cat to be wonderful company, and didn't feel as alone as I would have done. I was laid up with bad pelvic problems so couldn't get out and about much.

Re the cervix checking, although it sounds fairly grim, it was something that was recommended as a way to track my fertile phases when TTC, and once you do it every day you can have a really clear idea of whether you are potentially fertile that day. Old habits die hard, and I've done the occasional check since my BFP! I expect it will be interesting towards the end of the pg to find out if things have started dilating etc! Anyway, as to the 'how' of it all, here's a link infertility.about.com/od/tryingtoconceive101/ht/cervixovulation.htm

Welcome janedoe25 and congratulations!

LalZee83 · 12/06/2010 11:29

Hello all

Wow it has gotten very busy on here since I last posted!
pipsicles and smallblackflowers, we have 5, yes 5 cats - they were my DH's before we met and he does the litter exclusively. So far I am ok with feeding them both wet and dry, but to be honest am a bit more worried about when the baby is born... could they become territorial? Is there any chance they could get into a baby's moses basket and cause any harm?
We dont allow them in to quite a few rooms in the house but they have access to the kitchen (where their food and catflap are) and the living room.
DH would be devastated if we had to give them up.
Any advice anyone can impart would be great.

Have a lovely weekend everyone

earlgreyismynectar · 12/06/2010 12:09

Good morning everyone!

Lalzee83 and Pipsicles we too have a cat. Well, a kitten, he's about 9 months old but is Maine Coon so is BIG and already the size of a standard cat! I had a moggy when DD was born who was getting on a bit by that time and quite set in his ways. He had a feisty character too so I didn't trust him being around DD. I think now with retrospect I overreacted a bit, & by the time DD was crawling his food was moved to the front door area (on the other side of the baby gate). He found it hard to jump the baby gate so would come in, eat, then sleep in the hallway. Unsurprisingly he ended up moving out and relocated to my next door neighbour! (all were happy with the new arrangement). I still feel guilty for being perhaps overly cautious. He came back to see me before he died last summer (sob). Anyway, my new cat is a kitten and is quite used to LOs and more adaptable to change. I am ok feeding him meat once a day & he always has dry food out, so far it isn't making me want to chuck. My main problem just now is having to change his litter myself due to DP being away for 3 weeks at a time. I posted a thread about this last week re toxoplasmosis and got lots of advice and reassurance. Only you know your cats and how well they will adapt to a new situation. I think it's a great idea to have strict cat free zones in your house, certainly till you've sussed it out. DD adores having a pet kitten and as someone said on my last thread, having an animal to take care of is an important life lesson for LO's. Ideally you can make it work. With retrospect I could have done more to integrate my old cat with DD so don't make the same mistake as me and overreact! But DO monitor it carefully and make changes as you need.

linz17xxx · 12/06/2010 12:30

I'm 5 weeks and I have woke up today with lots of pressure just above my public bone. Its not particularly painful but mainly just very uncomfortable......has anyone else had this feeling?

Ba8y1 · 12/06/2010 13:32

Hi ladies

Was hoping to join your thread please?! Got my BFP about 2 weeks ago, but had no idea re dates as I had an mc on 17th April and then got pg again straight away. I had a scan yesterday (saw the heartbeat - yey!) which they reckon puts me at about 6 weeks. Have worked out that that makes me due on about the 4th Feb! Have added myself to the list!

Hi ladies!

Just got back from La Senza, and my boobs have gone up a whole cupsize! Bought myself 2 lovely new bras and they feel soooo much better. Couldnt bring myself to buy M&S non-wired ones tho .

Linz17 Have no real words of advice about the pressure feeling, but I have had a few funny feeling low down, kind of sensitive, which always passes. I am sure it is just normal stretching/ moving!

Pipsicles congrats on getting your scan date...bet that is a wonderful feeling! I have my booking in appt on Tuesday and I am hoping to find out a scan date soon after.

What a huge thread - soooo many feb babies! Wishing everyone well with their pregnancy!

But, at what stage should we go the GP? I'm still very early, like 4-5 weeks so is it too soon to go?

Thought my lack of symptoms would be too good to last! I've become very windy - much to my husbands displeasure! And have started feeling twinges of nausea. Keep telling myself it's way too early yet for pregnancy symptoms and that it must be psychological but I guess every pregnancy is different! The smell thing is weird tho that some of you report - waiting for that one to kick in!!!

And I am STILL waiting for period to start - this is all very surreal and I still can't quite believe!!!!!

By the way, Pisicles, fab you have a list of feb babies and due dates!! Great idea but what do the ?? in () mean?!? Age?

Diamondback · 12/06/2010 19:22

Hi All,

Well, on the subject of sharing the news, me and DH decided to tell immediate family only. His family are delighted (though cautiously so - his sister had 6 MCs and I've had 2).

So I told my Dad last night and he didn't seem all that thrilled. Given the amount of gip he's given me over the last year about how much he wants grandchildren and when was I going to crack on, I'm a bit bummed.

I know he's probably worried (he is a World Champion worrier!) as me and DH aren't flush at the mo and he did give me a hug and tell me he was pleased. He just didn't seem very pleased.

Hmph.

Oh well, maybe I'm hormonal and overreacting. And withdrawing from caffeine - this little spud really doesn't like it!

nicb79 · 12/06/2010 19:29

tabbycat you're due on the same day as me...congrats.
I phoned my G.P this week, they don't need to see me, I just had to fill in a form for the midwife, who has already contacted me (was very surprised, I'm still in denial!) to say she'll see me in mid July. But I guess very G.P surgery is different.

I felt a bit sick this morning, but maybe all in my head, as I'm expecting it to happen. Having some stomach pains too.

I'm finding this a huge, support, thanks everyone. Think my husband is pleased as I've found some others to talk to about it which saves his ears!

My bleeding seems to have stopped for now but I have to go and have another blood test on Monday (live in the USA so everything different here) just to check hormone levels. Apparently I'm not as far on as I thought though! Will find out and update you. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Grannyapple · 12/06/2010 23:02

Hey can I join please?? Just found out this morning-morning only 2-3 weeks , so just trying to let it sink in-DH well pleased!! Need to get him to calm down a bit, as it's still early days..

Anyway, due date 16th feb, no. 1 & I'm 34.

Phew, SIL is down visiting this w/e -she's a midwife. Feel a wee bit relieved that I've been able to tell her-gonna use her as my personal reference guide!

earlgreyismynectar · 13/06/2010 00:45

At 5+2 the baby is as big as a sweet pea! Aw, now that name will definately stick!

tabbycat76 · 13/06/2010 08:14

NicB79 - so we share the same due date eh?! Congrats to you! I still generally feel ok, I'm quite surprised really! Every little thing I do feel though, I'm thinking hmm, is this the start of it, ie the morning sickness. I thought going to the GP just yet might be too early but since you've been and have an appt with the mw, I'm thinking maybe I should go next week, I'll be just over 5 weeks then!

GrannyApple - another 16th Feb baby! Welcome! We also seem to share the same facts, age and baby number! My husband and I were beginning to think a pregnancy might never happen because we'd been trying for 9 months, and then we were also worried about being old 'first timers' and how your eggs are also old etc etc, so it's really reassuring that I'm not alone, first baby at 34 - well I will be when it arrives! Did you have any worries like that?? I'm wondering if you can become ever so slightly neurotic about everything during a pregnancy!!!

Loving this chat forum though, it really does allow you to chat away and vent off concerns etc when you're still in that 'hush hush' time of the pregnancy!

Grannyapple · 13/06/2010 08:41

Hey tabbycat76- yes had exactly same concerns & we too had been trying for about 9 months. Had made the decision (well in my head at least!) that if it wasn't our month this month, then were going to see docs together. Luckily, so far, no need...

So nice to hear that there is someone else in exact same position!

SIL said to me last night she thought something was up-so told her-obviously ecstatic. I have a heartmurmur since birth so wanted some reassurance about that & also whether I could still exercise ( avid runner) she says all fine but just take it slower & shorter distances. Want to tell sis ( we are v close. & no parents around any more). But paranoid me telling a few people is gonna tempt fate. But it's my sis, so prob will.

Don't feel any diff at all at the mo-only slightly achey boobs...oh & on the bra front, she says underwire is fine & she wire them through all 4 of her pregnancies-dreading that bit-I'm big without being pg!!

jackinthebump · 13/06/2010 12:34

Hello to all!

Well, Positive test last Saturday, saw the Doc this week and have booking appointment with MW on 8th July. Due 8th Feb (ish) really pleased, DH also really pleased but also cautious. Totally terrified! So far only told best friend, going to try not to tell anyone else until 1st scan. Had to buy bigger jeans yesterday - might just be normal fat! Feeling horrendously sick a lot of the time at the moment!

GrannyApple you're right it's so reassuring to hear people are in the same position as you. Like you, I was threatening the husband with a GP appt next week if we hadn't have fallen pregnant this month. My brother jokingly teased him saying he was firing blanks so I'm sure he was getting concerned too (my bro obviously didn't help matters!) It's funny how you try for so many years to prevent a pregnancy and then when you want one you struggle for months! Life is weird like that. Good that you have people to confide in, it's a special time and you just want to tell the world don't you. We've only told one of my closest friends just now who too is a midwife. I used to be a midwife 3.5 years ago but it's funny how even then, you want someone else to say it if you know what I mean. It's like reassurance. We've decided not to tell anyone else until nearer the scan just in case. What are your views on having the screening tests?? We're high risk at 33-34!

By the way, to all that are interested, I've bought a fab day by day pregnancy book illustrating and describing what's happening to your body and your lil nugget (as we've named ours - has anyone else got weird names they've called their bump??) on a daily basis. It's really interesting. Funnily enough it's called "The Day by Day Pregnancy Book" by Maggie Blott. Well recommended. Gives the husband an idea of whats going on aswell as proving to them the certain little ailments you might be feeling ARE pregnancy related, like, you're not being lazy, you're simply feeling tired because the babys growing so fast etc etc!!!! :0
