Hell, I've just found out I'm expecting No. 3 mid November, and am very excited. A bit scared too - I can't remember a thing! How can I possibly have done this twice already??? Hope more of you can join me soon!

Hi everyone - saw my doctor last week & he is booking me in to see midwife & then arrange scan on 19th May. I had two early scans last time with ds - internal ones - really want to advoid that with this pregnancy but DH has told me a woman from work had a dating scan 'over the tum' at 6 weeks. I had my 1st tummy scan at 10 weeks last time so wondered if things had moved on a bit. I know the internal probe scans can't damage the baby but I did bleed afterwards & if I don't have to have it then I will be happy. I am 7 weeks now according to my dates & feeling very sick though eating for Wales at the moment!

monkey · 12/05/2003 09:11

In my 1st pg I had trans vaginal dating scan at 6 weeks, but this time I had a normal 'on the tum' scan at 6 weeks with no prob, so maybe things have moved on, zippyb & you can avoid the internal - not much fun - I remember seeing it before the procedure & thinking in panick how enormous it was! Cant't they make them any smaller!

I didn't know if you knew, people just having dating scans, but the dates are most accurate between 12-16 weeks. So having a dating scan at 6 weeks is not as accurate as having a scan when you are further on. I am lucky as there aren't a lot of births here so I will have a scan at every appointment (about 5 going by last pregnancies) and one of them will fall into that window. In both previous pregnancies I had a scan prior to that but the Obstetrician (no sonographers here, all done by the consultant) wouldn't give me an accurate date till he had done a later scan.

chanelno5 · 12/05/2003 13:22

Glad to hear everyone is progressing well despite the sickness, knackeredness etc.
Have got my first scan tomorrow, so feeling a bit nervous. Will be nearly 14 wks.

WWW - I didn't realise that they could tell what you're having so early on (or at least give you a rough idea) Am now wondering if I'll find anything out tomorrow. Good news about your scan and tests

whellid · 12/05/2003 13:36

chanelno5 - if it's just the dating scan then it's unlikely that they will be able to tell you what sex it is. That usually waits for the 20 week scan.
I will ask at my 20 week scan. We found out about ds and both want to know this time too.
Susanmt and monkey I'm also not having any tests, and didn't last time, for much the same reasons.

monkey · 13/05/2003 10:04

susanmt - yes you're right. it's just occured to me that my 1st antenatal appt this time, was at 6 weeks & he thought it was a bit small for dates, so would review the edd at 10 wk appt. (by wghich time schlumpfli had grown well & he didn't need ta alter the date).

But last time had a dating scan at 6 weeks - actually wonder if in all truth it was to actually see if the pg was 'viable', not for due date at all?

It infuriates me how the nurses just presume that most women are going to have an internal scan early on! Not all of us want a great big dildo shaped thing shoved inside us! And when you say 'no' they look at you as if you're strange! Just to let ZippyB and others know that you ARE entitled to say no, they can see just as well with a tummy scan! They saw my baby's heartbeat at 8 weeks, but still dragged me in 2 weeks later to have another go at persuading me to have an internal scan, I said no again, and had a tummy scan and they managed to date it, I was 10 weeks. So if you want to preserve your dignity that little bit longer, don't them push you around, a tummy scan can be every bit as good as an internal one!

eefs · 13/05/2003 15:03

I had my scan this morning. The baby looked lovely, but didn't seem to move much (are they supposed to be wriggling at 12 weeks?). The scanner was a wagon though, really quick and curt and, when I requested it, printed off the most blurry image she could, even though she'd had a beautiful image seconds before. agghhhh, she may be doing 100 of these a day, but it's still my first view of the baby. It still doesn't feel real though.

zippyb · 13/05/2003 17:48

Thanks rhubarb I really don't want another 'probe' so will stay determined & stick to wanting 'tummy scan'. Really anxious at the moment & can't believe I am really pregnant though have done a total of 6 tests (all positive) have swollen tum, erratic moods, tears Oh & bigger boobs! I think I will ask my GP on Thursday if I can go down hospital as early as possible as I am still worrying whether baby is in the right place, sounds odd I know but apparently I have a very 'funny shaped womb' & we were lucky last time that ds wasn't ectopic (well in the smaller part of womb to be accurate.) Sorry to go on - is nice to air my worries - even if I do ramble on!

WideWebWitch · 13/05/2003 21:21

eefs, glad everything was ok even if you did get a crap picture. Mine seemed to be asleep for my scan at 12 weeks too and the sonographer kept poking the thing into my tummy to try to wake it so I think it must be normal. Chanel, how did you get on? Zippyb, hope your doctor is reassuring and helpful.

nobby · 13/05/2003 22:17

This pregnancy is so different from my last one:

last time: had to buy 36F bra; this time: 40E

last time: bought expensive clothes from Formes; this time: Hennes in the sale (Formes clothes gone to skinny friend)

last time: thought it was admirable to work up until the last minute; this time: am SAHM with toddler (so still working up to last minute)

last time: read every pregnancy book going; this time: am avoiding them like the plague

last time: worried and fretted about every twinge; this time: what will be will be

last time: got upset that dh didn't stroke my belly every 5 minutes; this time: toddler strokes it so I don't care

last time: had legs waxed, facial, manicure and pedicure before labour; this time: will be grateful if I can still be shave legs

monkey · 14/05/2003 10:02

hey - snap, nobby, apart from breasts - I think mine have given up the ghost - absolutely no sign of life!

Thanks for asking, www. Scan went well. Saw the little critter nodding it's head. Also had due date moved 2 days earlier to 11 Nov, but as my others were all overdue, it's nothing to get too excited about. Was lovely to see it though, and doesn't matter how many you have, it's still a magical moment. Will have to wait for 20 wk scan if I want to know what it is. Was thinking that I want a girl, but after seeing it, I don't really mind at all.

Best wishes to everyone, great to hear your news.

nobby · 14/05/2003 20:54

Monkey
Wish I could give you some of mine - i'm sick of looking like Bet lynch all the time.

Rhubarb · 14/05/2003 22:33

I feel siiiiiiick! I'm on evening barfyness, with what feels like gut rot, and you know when your mouth keeps filling up with water? Haven't washed my hair in a week, the angle I have to stand at to wash it makes me want to barf straight away! And I'm having another "I DON'T WANT A BABY!!!!" moment too! And how come suddenly everyone else is having a baby in Dec too? Like that Windsor Sophie whatever her name is?

Good luck Zippyb, they should definitely see if the pregnancy sac is in the right place with a tummy scan. Hope everything goes ok for you.

eefs · 15/05/2003 10:47

oh poor you Rhubarb, I'm not too bad now but a few weeks ago every single smell made me retch, eugh. You'll probably feel a lot better in a few weeks, how far gone are you now?
It does seem everyone is pregnant now, this thread seems to be the busiest! What was in the water in Feb/March?

I'm starting to worry about finances now, I want to stay off work for 6 months this time, which will meant at least two months unpaid, with the amount of debts we have at the moment I'm not sure we can mangae this, might start a new thread actually...

zippyb · 16/05/2003 20:42

Thanks rhubarb - am hopeful midwife will send me early next week for scan - tummy one please! I know how you feel with the sickness - but I do seem to get to 1.30 & suddenly need 'stodge' - been in safeway twice this week having lunch while ds is at nursery! But then the rest of the day it is fruit, fruit, water, fruit & so on. Don't remember being so sick with ds (but then again am coming off anti-depressents too at moment so could be that).
eefs I too am worrying alot about money - we have debts & a HUGE overdraught which is not going down & am just wandering how we are going to manage (was going to increase my hours at work when ds goes full-time in September). I am sure we will survive but don't you just get fed-up just doing that every month? Sorry just looked at bank balance on line & am still a bit shocked! Sorry for rambling but thanks for listening.

Rachael17 · 16/05/2003 23:53

Oh balls! I've never ever done that before! Stupid computer!

1stimer · 17/05/2003 23:46

As the nickname suggests this is my first baby I'm due 9th Nov, obviously I have all the usual questions/anxieties, otherwise I would be abnormal!!! So good to read everyone elses thoughts/feelings and emotions. I'm British but I live on the otherside of the world with no family around so that also makes it a little harder, So far for the first 13 weeks have had all day nausea!!!But good now. Have been coping very well, but had a scare 2 weeks ago and now feel a little nervous about things. So its nice to talk to others that are going through the same feelings. BTW baby was planned and dp is being very supportive we are both very happy about bump!

Ghosty · 17/05/2003 23:47

1stimer · 17/05/2003 23:55
