smoking in pregnancy

An acquaintence(close friend of a friend) is six months pregnant, and has not managed to stop smoking ( about ten a day I think)
I don't smoke (used to smoke the odd one or two but stopped when I realised I was starting to enjoy it).

I appreciate it must be hard to give up but can it really be THAT hard? I struggle to be positive about this person at the best of times. Actually I think she is a silly little so and so. Am I being a bit harsh to think shre is being stupid and selfish? Not that I am perfect but I would never have done anythign to harm my babies in the womb.

I saw the thread last night and I have read most of this one. Tamz77 to say that you think the majority of women that smoke whilst pregnant are usually low income. WTF. That is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard.

If you are not trying for a baby and then you find out that you are pregnant and all of a sudden you are supposed to just stop, not only do you have the stress of finding that you are pregnant and your life is about to change drstically but you have the added stress of having to stop doing something that you may have done for god knows how long.

Non smokers that have never smoked have no idea how difficult it is to stop.

The whole alcohol verses smoking is just stupid.
My mum drinks wine every night and hates smoking.
I told her I was giving up and she said "about time". I then asked her to stop drinking wine every night. Do you think she can? NO.

It is ok to drink but not smoke, its the same old argument.

I am starting to ramble on now so I shall leave it there.

One last thing. All non smokers, please don't be too quick to judge.

It is an argument that really pisses me off and I knew that last nights one was dragged up but never even saw the dates on this one. I skimmed the thread and didn't evens see the idiot from last night. Oopps. Ignore my post. Can't MNHQ just delete this person and not allow them to post anymore?

I dont think it has helped the situation by this thread being put on the homepage. This is an important subject and i have nothing against debate but lets face it, if the other thread on this is anything to go by , this is not normal debate. This is just adding fuel to what I presume is a troll's fire. I know by posting on it I am now part of it but I just couldnt believe it when I saw it on the homepage.

There isn't a woman out there that doesn't know that she shouldn't smoke when pregnant, but smokers are addicted and need support and encouragement to help them cut down & give up smoking. Lectures just add to the already existing sense of guilt and are not helpful.
