Just thought I would share the final countdown with anyone out there going through the last few weeks of bump-dom.

Be so lovely if the baby came a bit early or at least on time (six days late with first).Want to wear fashionable clothes again, put my shoes on without getting so worn out I need a nap afterwards, painting my toenails, getting ready in the morning without it feeling like an Olympic event, walking like a regular person rather than like someone who has wet themselves!!
(this may become a reality if I dont do any pelvic floor exercises!)

Ha! Wont be long now, really want to use all the new baby stuff that is piling up.

Good luck to all of you and hope you enjoy the last few weeks of being able to sit down and rest legitimately

Woose have you tried steam. Get some menthol crystals from chemist, chuck them in a bowl of boiling water and put your head over it. It does burn you nose a little but it helps to clear out your sinus cavities. It is probably mucus dripping down your throat which is making you cough. Especially at night time.
I am also full of snot etc. It is miserable.

Purple flower. Feeling for you. It is a slow count down until hospital. Which I remember being horrible.
38+5 for me.

woose · 26/09/2008 22:05

Will try that tomorrow. Thanks Ronshar. My friend also suggested gargling cider vinegar with hot water and honey, so will try that too. My DH came home from work and offered to take over looking after DS and put him to bed which was good and I went and had a lie down. I have also found that lying flat is what starts the coughing off and so I have been propping myself up which helps. I have been wearing sanitary towels because when I cough I have been leaking somewhat lovely!!!

Purpleflower. I hope things start for you after the sweep tomorrow. Will want to hear what it is like as I have not had one before, and will probably have one next week if this carries on. Have you been having any other labour symptoms? I have just been looking through my Miriam Stoppard book and seeing all the pre labour symptoms and I am having a few, but not the vital ones.

ronshar · 26/09/2008 22:42

Pelvic floor my love. Get squeezing

yousaidit · 27/09/2008 04:40

Can i join in? am 37+6 and am deeeeeeesperately wnting dc to make an entance soon!!! I've scanned through thread: so no sure-fire tips to get the little 'uns moving then?

woose · 27/09/2008 14:42

Hello yousaidit Nothing I have done has made any difference. I have been having some crampy period style pains, but that is about it.

Ronshar I know I have been trying to do the pelvic floor exercises. The problem is I have been diagnosed with a prolapsed bladder and so the consultant said there is not an awful lot I can do about it until the baby is born because it will only get worse. I will be going back to see him after baby born, and may need to have an operation or something. I think my bladder must have got a bit damaged during forceps delivery with DS as I was incontinent for about 6 months afterwards.

I had to have this really embarrassing assessment with the consultant and about three junior doctors, where I was on my back lega akinbo with them all staring on. He had has fingers up my whatsit and he is saying 'lets do an emergency stop. When I say stop you pull pelvic muscles in' Then we had to play the emergency stop game. So awful!!

Anyhow, today has been quite a relaxing day so far, and cough is beginning to get better, yay!!!

yousaidit · 27/09/2008 15:53

Woose yep, i get the crampy style period pains too, but really only when i get up after i've been sitting down, like everythingsre-stretching and not happy about it! Went for a walkthis aft but so kackered wasn't really much of a vigourous walk so don't think it will have made a blind bit of difference! Will let you all know how my egg custard tart test goes this eve...

nappyaddict · 27/09/2008 18:30

purpleflower how was the sweep?

She did the sweep but it's not too promising. My cervix is still quite far back and the head isn't really pushing on it. I'm also only 3/5s still although I feel even lower today than I have been, baby has also decided to go back to back. It was quite uncomfortable, she couldn't reach the cervix properly so just had a fiddle around. I'm booked in for another next friday so will be 41 weeks. DS was born at 41 weeks so hopefully it will be over by then.
I've been having period pain cramps for a couple of weeks now, really expected it to be the start of something. I really didn't think I would go over this time.

They will book me in for induction on friday. They only let you go 10 days over, so I will have this baby in the next 9 days.

woose · 27/09/2008 23:04

purpleflower Hopefully thinkgs will start happening soon and you don't have to be induced. I feel as if things have dropped even lower, and also I am very swollen down there!!

Feeling quite smug as have just bought all children's Xmas pressies online. So now don't have to worry too much about tackling the shop with newborn later on.
xx

ronshar · 28/09/2008 14:05

Ouch Woose. As if it isnt bad enough when you have to delivery a baby in a room full of doctors, to have to go back and have hands in places hands have no business. Horrible.

Purple, why only 10 days for you? Most hospitals allow at least 14 days and then you can push for expectant management for another few days if all ok with you and baby!

How is everyone else getting on? Any sign yet?

Nothing for me. Same old pains.

woose · 29/09/2008 09:50

No nothing for me at 40 +2 now.

Purpleflower Are you still here?

My mum is coming round today and we are going to do loads of cleaning so maybe that will do something. Yesterday I had the in laws over and they stayed all day until 10.15pm, was a bit knackered to say the least running round offering endless cups of tea, and making lunch and dinner. Oh well, at least they were helping and did some DIY for us, which I am very pleased with today.

Alexa808 · 29/09/2008 11:05

Just found this thread. Fab one. I'm 39 wks and will go for CS in 2 days. Can't wait. Am nervous though. Will she be alright? Will I be okay? So many questions. And baby daddy needs to fly out for a week on Sunday after the birth

nappyaddict · 29/09/2008 12:26

woose - get sweeping, wiping the walls, cleaning the windows inside and out oh and weeding the garden that should do it!!

ronshar · 29/09/2008 14:41

Alexa, you are lucky, at least you know when your baby will make an appearance

Get cleaning Woose!

purpleflower · 29/09/2008 14:53

Still here 40+3

Not much sign of anything, I've been out all morning hoping that being in an awkward place (30 mins drive from home) would start things but no. My Dad phoned me while I was on my way home and almost had a heart attack that I was out that far on my own He took my mums car keys away when she got to 38 weeks

I'm not sure why it's only 10 days ronshar. That's what the community midwife told me on Saturday. I'm at the point now where I just want this baby out so 10 days seems ok to me.

I hope the cleaning works woose, I did the house top to bottom on Friday in the hopes it might work.

ronshar · 29/09/2008 15:54

I have to take my DD1 an hour away tomorrow to get a tooth removed. My Dh hasnt even enquired as to whether I will be ok to drive that far! Let alone look after a sedated 9 year old. Oh well.
Hopefully It will send me into labour

sambrads · 29/09/2008 17:51

hi ladies i am due tomorrow and no sign of this baby coming

i go to hospital on thursday for a sweep then i will be brought in the following thursday for induction if i have not went myself by then .

we are only allowed to go over ny 10 days as well which i think i long enough ds was induced and it was very painful and i would love to go myself this time but not looking good .

woose · 29/09/2008 20:02

Oh my goodness, I have cleaned and cleaned and cleaned. It must have been a lot because even my DH noticed Vinegar is good for windows I have discovered!! House smells like a chip shop though

Ronshar my DH would be exactly the same. I went to visit a friend 2 hours away a couple of weeks ago and he didn't bat an eyelid!! I hope it goes ok for you.

Alexa good luck with the CS. I am sure everything will be fine

Sambrads I am totally with you on the not wanting to be induced thing. I found the whole thing very painful with Ds and would love things to be a bit bit different this time. One of the reasons is that I am booked in to the Midwife led unit which is not far away, and if you need to be induced you have to go to the big maternity hospital, which is so busy and I found it quite a stressful environment

Have got MW tomorrow so may find out when I will get sweep. I don't think she will do one tomorrow though.

sambrads · 29/09/2008 20:43

woose i to am hoping to go to the midwife led unit as well although in my hospital you are allowed to go to the unit if you only have one gel which i did with ds so i have a little hope

i have been told my baby is a good 8 and a half pound already how mad is that she will be 10lb by next week

nappyaddict · 30/09/2008 00:30

so what cleaning did you do woose so we know what doesn't make you go into labour lol.

woose · 30/09/2008 09:41

Cleaning toilets
Cleaning windows
Cleaning floors
Hoovering
Doing the washing
Hanging the washing
Cooking bolognese sauce
Loading/unloading dishwasher
Brushing walls
Sorting bank statements

NOTHING worked (am surprised the sorting bank statements didn't work, as always a bit of a shock to find out the state of the finances LOL)

Going to risk swimming later, and it is a hot curry for dinner. Any suggestions? Was going to have Madras, is that hot enough?

ronshar · 30/09/2008 14:14

Just as well it didnt work, Are you knackered after that lot!!!

woose · 30/09/2008 19:36

Was quite tired yes, but felt quite proud of my tidy, clean house as that does not often happen.

Had MW today, she didn't really do or say much. Baby now 4/5 engaged. I don't really know what that means. She has booked me in for a sweep next Monday, and then an induction the following Monday, so I think all in all this baby will be born on or around 13th Oct. Which is a bit annoying because my DS birthday in on 14th. I really didn't think it would be this long. Oh well that is worse case scenario and I still have my curry, which is on its way!!

Swimming was ok, but didn't do much as water was too hot and felt V uncomfortable

nappyaddict · 01/10/2008 02:28

why would you be brushing walls???!!!

did you do any mopping or sweeping? perhaps you need to get down on your hands and knees and scrub them as hard as you can!! even if it doesn't make you go into labour it might get the baby better positioned?

i wonder if ironing works?
