Hi everyone!

I just thought I would post this because I have spent countless hours reading other people's posts and comments trying to calm myself down and ended up sressing myself out more through not seeing others with the same experience.

I am 36 with two living children and one loss in between. The eldest is 13 and the youngest is 9. I have been worried for a while about perimenopause after losing hair, greying and generally feeling achy and old. I had a 5 year copper coil that had been in waaaay over the time it was supposed to be in (around two extra years - please don't judge, I know I am grim!) and I decided to remove it myself in the middle of June this year, which was surprisingly easy, painless and I didn't bleed at all. I figured that if it was that far out of date and nothing had happened, I wasn't likely to get pregnant now.

I usually have around a 26 day cycle, and since removing my coil, I have been a bit more irregular (between 24 and 29 days) with between 2 and 4 days of spotting before I have bled properly. Even then, the bleeding has been very minimal with a few clots and some random uterine tissue. I did have a LEEP procedure in around 2017 and since then, I have been worried my cervix may have been blocked after the gynaecologist couldn't fit the 10year coil due to the amount of scar tissue.

I bought some LH strips out of curiosity and for the first time this month (3rd full cycle), I got a line as dark as the control line on the 14th of September. When I got another just as dark the following day, I had an odd 'feeling' a bit like anxiety just before me and the OH BD'd. At what I am guessing is around 7dpo (basing potential ovulation on the 16th of September), I decided to do a cheapie 'freedom' strip test from Tesco, knowing it was completely stupid that early on, and I was beyond shocked to see the faintest of lines. I then ran to Tesco and got another pack of 2 of the same strip tests and a digital clear blue just in case. Within hours I dipped the strip and it was stark white. Out of curiosity (and because I apparently enjoy torturing myself), I then took at least one every day for a few days following and got stark white negatives 8dpo, 9dpo, 10dpo and 11dpo. Eventually, I figured the test at 7dpo was an evap, even though it had the tiniest hint of pink.

I have had all my usual pre menstrual symptoms, hormonal migraine (also around 7dpo), slight nausea, tender under-boobs, rage, tears, womb cramps, constipation and then needing the toilet, gas, minimal watery/tacky CM and then yesterday at 11dpo, some spotting after I decided to check my cervical position. It was quite low down, a little flat to the wall and slightly open. Not unusual for me at all. The second I saw pink in clear/creamy CM, I knew it was over. I did also wedge a bit of tissue up there and saw more pinky red. I also noticed my boobs weren't as tender. Then I sobbed myself to sleep like a moron.

Today at 12dpo, I decided to do a random LH strip just to see what it would look like at this point in my cycle and it was almost as dark as the control line. I panicked after reading that higher levels at random times can indicate perimenopause or PCOS. I did also read though, that it can be normal for LH to rise just before a period or that it can sometimes indicate early pregnancy due to the similarities between HCG and LH?

I went to Tesco for the food shop and promised myself if I bought one last delusional pack of two HCG strips, that would be it and I would never allow myself to test unless I was a week late, ever again. I fully expected to see another stark white stick of disappointment, but instead I got another squinter just like the one at 7dpo. My brain would not shut up and I waited until I could squeeze out enough to dip the last strip and it looked exactly the same. A friend who is a 'bad influence', persuaded me to waste my only digital and I only went and got a bloody positive?!

Now I'm just scared it won't stick and I won't believe it is even a thing until I see it on a screen.

Current situation: I still have heaviness in my womb area and I feel like I could come on my period at any moment. My boobs don't really feel as tender. I always have weird vivid dreams and indigestion anyway, so I wouldn't notice if those changed. I haven't needed to wee more than usual. My nipples haven't darked, got bigger or become like bullets. I'm not any more tired than usual. I honestly don't think there is anything I can say is noticeably different.

Good luck everyone trying to get their BFP and I hope this helps someone losing their mind the way I do.

Hopefully you can see the strip from today that I had to edit like hell for it still to be barely noticeable! 😂 I still can't get my head around how a digital picked anything up at all. The strip test from 7dpo and the second strip from today looked pretty much the same.

Hoping for a sticky one!

@Perimumopausal yeah my son thinks I'm having a bad flair up of my migraine condition, which is triggered by the weather usually, so he's not too suspicious. To be fair, the hormones are making the migraines pretty rubbish as well.

I'll be 16 & a half weeks by Christmas, so I'm really hoping I'll see some improvement by then

Pryceosh1987 · 17/11/2025 00:40

It might be early stages. It all hasnt kicked in yet. But i wish you all the best.

Yeah, I will be almost at the same point by Christmas so I am hoping it will have at least eased off a bit by then even if it's not completely gone. I am having a really rough night. 😩

Had a follow up scan at the epu this morning & got to see baby, he/she was so wriggly and actually looks like a baby now and not a frog 🤣
the second sac seems to be vanishing which is good, you could see it but it’s definitely shrank.
they dated me a couple of days ahead also so I’m now 11+2 which is good as the last scan I was measuring a week behind my date. now due the 7th of June but will prob be having a section so it’ll be a may baby

Samthenanny · 18/11/2025 19:48

How you all doing?
@Perimumopausal i sad as well about Xmas and the foods. I love eating loads of meat and cheese usually.
im hoping we all feel better by Xmas, think I was about 16/18 weeks when I didn’t feel nauseous with my little boy.

That's really good news! We have our 12 week next Wednesday. I am glad it's almost here. It might make the nausea and vomming feel more worth while! 🤣 Then I can make sure the rest of the family knows before I tell my kids.
It must be strange when booking a C section, knowing exactly when they are coming.

@Perimumopausal ah not long to go, I hope it’s a quick week for you.
it definitely helps the nausea/vomitting seeing baby. Atm I can’t brush my teeth as it makes me want to vomit & I’m wearing Invisalign and just taking those out makes me gag

This evening, I vomited in my own hand over a fart the second I heard it... I don't even know if it smelled or not 🤣 I also just gagged typing that... The struggle is real.
Everything is going wrong in my life at the moment. I think I just need to stop. Maybe maternity leave is exactly what I need.

Officially in my second trimester as of yesterday & really hoping this sickness subsides soon. I really can't cope with work much longer, I just want to sleep all day

JustAnOrdinaryHuman · 25/11/2025 13:58

How is everyone else doing?

Perimumopausal · 25/11/2025 17:20

@JustAnOrdinaryHuman
Woop! Happy 2nd trimester!
Got my 12 week scan at half eight tomorrow morning. Feeling really nervous. Hoping the fact that I am still feeling so gross means everything is okay. At weekends I have been sleeping non stop purely to avoid feeling so sick! It's grim isn't it? Fingers crossed it buggers off soon because I am fed up with hearing myself complain!

Samthenanny · 26/11/2025 09:39

@Perimumopausal just came on to ask about your scan, hope all’s gone well.
ah yes the weekend sleeping, I felt so bad for my toddler as all I done as nap or sit.

hopefully by Christmas we’ll feel much better

Samthenanny · 26/11/2025 09:41

@JustAnOrdinaryHuman whoop on the 2nd trimester, I’ll be joining you on Sunday. We told some family at the weekend and our toddler, I just need to tell work now and I’m really not looking forward to that. Basically got pregnant 2 weeks into the job

JustAnOrdinaryHuman · 26/11/2025 11:28

@Perimumopausal hope the scan went well this morning, mine is tomorrow morning, planing to tell ours boys after the scan.

@Samthenanny I've not been in my job long, new this year & was stressed about telling my line manager, had to tell him early due to the bleeding & emergency scans, but to be fair, he's been great.

Samthenanny · 26/11/2025 12:00

@JustAnOrdinaryHuman glad he took it well.
im a nanny so I know ideally they’d of liked someone to of been in the position for more than a year but these things happen. I know I won’t be going back also as logistically taking 2 of my own children just won’t work.
planning on telling them tomorrow as the mum works from home, I mean she of guessed as I’m so big already 🤣

Perimumopausal · 29/11/2025 11:05

Hey!

My scan went well thank you! They measured me as 12w4d on Wednesday which puts me at 13 weeks today, but that doesn't seem to add up so I hope I haven't got a chonk growing in there 🤣 we got a lovely scan picture, but one of the other pictures looks like Batman, which is hilarious.

@JustAnOrdinaryHuman how did your scan go? We are going to tell my partners mum and grandparents today and then I am going to tell my two children tomorrow, when they are together.

@Samthenanny have you told your work yet? Mine have known since the day after I found out because I was freaking out over the spotting and I haven't been able to hide it anyway because of my gagging, vomiting, bloating and being off!

OP posts:
JustAnOrdinaryHuman · 30/11/2025 10:28

@Perimumopausal, yeah so pleased your scan went well. Mine also went well, they measured me at 13 weeks, so 13 +3 today. So our due dates must be very similar. Mines the 4th June with an expected date of around 28th May for my c section.

We told our boys after the scan & our eldest seems un phased which we expected from him & the youngest seems excited.

Samthenanny · 30/11/2025 15:50

@Perimumopausal glad all went well 😊
how far did you think you where?
im 13 weeks today but wondering if they’ll put me forward on Tuesday.

No I’ve not mentioned it to work yet, the parents weren’t really around last week and felt I couldn’t spit it out 5 mins before I was about to run out the door 😬

Perimumopausal · 30/11/2025 16:00

The due date they have given me is the 6th of June but I am still going with the 9th. Not that it makes any difference because the due date doesn't mean anything 🤣

We told the kids this afternoon. My son thought we had called them into the living room to tell them off and was shocked and laughing, asking if it was a joke, and my daughter just sobbed. They both reacted exactly how I thought they would. It was quite a lovely moment to be honest. The Christmas Elf came a day early and they had a packet of Jelly Babies each and I wrapped up a little baby outfit with the scan picture.

My daughter has been sat planning a gender reveal party that I never wanted but I don't want to squash her excitement 🤣

@Perimumopausal i love that your now getting a gender reveal party 🤣

we have our 12 week scan tomorrow, I’ll be around 13+2

Samthenanny · 02/12/2025 14:13

had our 12 week scan today, they put me at 13 weeks which makes me the 8th June but I’ll be earlier anyway as I’ll be having a section.
baby was very cute and kept trying to hide their face.

Perimumopausal · 02/12/2025 17:20

Glad everything went well @Samthenanny! It's weird to think we are all in the same place. I had a Doppler with my other two so I ordered one and it arrived today. Not hearing anything yet though. Boo 🤣

@Perimumopausal ooh have you, I don’t know if I should get one. I’ve got another anterior placenta so movement first time was non existent so hearing baby might be nice.

you feeling any better yet?

toddy I’m not feeling too bad. Headache and slight hunger but no sickness so far

I have heard heartbeats and rolling around the last few days. They seem very active. My placenta has been anterior every time and I have always heard them by about 13 and a half weeks. Did you not feel them at all before? I always started feeling them around 22 weeks. My son shifted my ribs so now they are wonky 🤣
My sickness is going absolutely nowhere. I haven't been able to enjoy a single meal in at least 6 or 7 weeks now and I am hanging on by a thread!
How is everything else? Headaches haven't been a thing for me until the last couple of days but I am hoping that means a shift in hormones which might signal the slowing down of the nausea and vomiting. One can hope.
