Guys I have a cold!! And I’m going on holiday tomorrow :( I don’t think it’s the flu as I think I would know - just super congested sneezing every 2 mins and with a bit of a sore throat. Apparently I can’t use lemsip which is usually my go to. I have taken paracetamol and made tea with lemon ginger and honey. Any other tips? Hopefully it will go by tomorrow but I’ve heard that pregnancy makes colds flus and everything worse…

No specific help, but try and up your vitamin c either through food or those effervescent tablets (if allowed and you can stomach - I can imagine nothing worse right now 🤢) hopefully it’s blip and lifts for your holiday!

Gargle with salt water. That helped me when I had a sore throat really early on in my pregnancy

I made the mistake of leaving it til my LO was born - high risk pregnancy and a lot of stuff going on during pregnancy that just made me not want to tempt fate..it ended up we could only get a 3 day a week when she was 13 months. We are only getting our full time place this week - she’s 16 months. I had to return to work 3 days a week and use hols to make up the other days. At least this babe will be easier as they know I’m pregnant so can keep me a space from now 😂

That's mad! It becomes a cyclical problem - once people are booking so early, the next batch of us who are pregnant also end up having to book so early. I'm similar in that I don't want to tempt fate but sounds like I'll need to just suck it up as I can't afford not to, I'll need to be back at the office so will have to find childcare somehow!

Just catching up…

I’ve bought the travel system from Cosatto (was a deal we couldn’t ignore really) and we’ve been given my friends outgrown ergobaby carrier. Still have the cotbed from my first so that’s sorted apart from a new mattress but haven’t bought anything else. My mum, on the other hand, keeps telling me about baby clothes she is buying and/or knitting 😂

Has anybody else started with the leg cramps whilst you’re sleeping? I forgot that delightful part of pregnancy and was sure it was more of a third trimester thing but obviously mistaken!

Jadeypie · 30/07/2025 08:11

Morning everyone 😊

My ds went private from 2, its ridiculous having to even think of this already and waiting lists isn't it? Im planning on putting this little one in ds school nursery hopefully anyway.

I think after my 20 week scan im going to start buying stuff like prams ect and start the nappys and wipes with the weekly shop xx

Jadeypie · 30/07/2025 08:12

@Thegirlhasnamechanged ive started to feel more uncomfortable in bed and swopping sides like a rosterie chicken haha xx

Thegirlhasnamechanged · 30/07/2025 08:27

Could I ask where you are all roughly based? Just asking as I’m in Yorkshire and (granted my children are 6 and 4 so it’s been a while since we needed to enrol into private childcare) but I’ve been told that the waiting lists aren’t that bad right now even with the 9 month funding coming up 🙈 I dropped to part time when I had my first so would only need 3 days a week childcare so maybe that’s why but I’m overthinking in that being tired and pregnant way!

@Jadeypie oh I feel that! Like a rotisserie chicken, up a million times to pee and leg cramps. Lucky DH 😂

Sunshinemoom · 30/07/2025 08:29

Honestly I think it crazy I’ve reached out to a couple nurseries now, and childminders the nurseries don’t have space until January 2027 and a few of the childminders are full but kept my number for when they have space. I wasn’t expecting it to be hard 😅 I’m based Buckinghamshire!

I’m Northern Ireland - everything is delayed/behind/backwards here 😂

Moosey898 · 30/07/2025 09:45

@Thegirlhasnamechanged I'm in Surrey - I imagine childcare here is a nightmare to secure....might have to reach out to a few places just to ask about wait list times!

I haven’t even thought about childcare 😮 I didn’t realise things got booked up that early! I am also looking at taking the whole of 2026 off work. I work hybrid, one day in the office two at home. Starting to think maybe I need to look at nursery places soon based on this chat 😮

I woke up with horrible cramp in my leg lastnight 😓 it’s the first time I’ve had it in this pregnancy. I didn’t get it will my 3rd trimester previously, so was thinking they wouldn’t be around till then 😣

I’m also based in Yorkshire. I’m the same it’s been even longer since I looked at childcare (mine are 15 and 12). I remember just applying a couple of months before I needed it, but sounds like that might not be the case now 😮

Hodge8578 · 30/07/2025 12:07

I’m in Yorkshire, I’ve literally just paid the deposit for my nursery for September 2026. I thought I was stupid looking so early but when I started looking at seeing there was wait lists I thought I better just do it because of the childcare I need. Although I have some family close I can’t / won’t rely on them so it’s a necessity I have childcare in place for me to go back to work.

dubkitten · 30/07/2025 12:29

I am in Dublin, this is my first so no idea what childcare here is like. When my nephews were born they were mainly minded by grandparents

LoveaCaramelLatte · 30/07/2025 12:37

I'm Greater Manchester. One of the nurseries we were most interested in has completely closed their waiting list as they are getting so many enquiries. Wouldn't tell me when they were booked too, but judging by the others nearby I assume even Jan 2027 might be off the table.

I've also been getting mild leg cramps for weeks now. I suppose constantly getting up to go to the toilet has one benefit in that my legs feel more normal when I get back to bed!

WildFinch · 30/07/2025 12:42

I'm on the South coast, east Sussex. I haven't considered childcare at all! No children and only moved to the area in December. How do you even choose a nursery/childminder?! Will do some googling. Similar to others I'm hoping to take a year then go back at least 4 days a week. I am fully home-based at least.

WildFinch · 31/07/2025 10:16

Morning ladies. I was up maternity last night as I could feel and see a lump/bulge in my vagina when I was in the shower. I've had a feeling of heaviness down there, a bit like a tampon about to fall out (sorry if TMI) on and off for a week. I was worried about a prolapse. They examined me lying down but I can only feel it when I'm stood up. They said cervix was closed but low down. Baby is fine but also head down, that could just be how it was laying last night. They could feel something when they examined me but said it was just the shape of my vagina! I'm not convinced. Anyone had anything similar? This is my first pregnancy to get this far, surely my pelvic floor shouldn't be that weak?!

If you are not happy I would go back for a second opinion

WildFinch · 31/07/2025 10:49

Thanks @dubkitten I'm waiting for a call from maternity unit to book in a cervical scan. I'll ask them then.

A friend had something similar after giving birth, they never got to the bottom of it. But she was sent to a pelvic physio rather than midwife, could that be an option?

Just had my 15 week maternity appointment and got to listen to the heartbeat 💗 if old wives’ tales are to be believed, it’ll be a girl!

I found it slow with the sickness but since that subsided I feel like it flying by! Think it helps already chasing one child around 😅 xx
