Hi!

Just thought i’d start a thread as I know a few of us have found out we are expecting! Would love to hear everyone’s stories to start us off as I know December feels soooo far away yet!

I’ll go first, I already have one child, he is 6 years old Smile Totally did not plan to have anymore once me and his dad split, I was one and done. However, years on met my current other half and I just knew straight away I had a change of heart. We started trying 18 months ago with negatives every month, later finding out there was infertility on both our sides. We moved in together January this year after deciding we would give IVF a try once we were settled in new GPs etc, only to find out we were pregnant! This came to an abrupt end 3 days later where we had what’s known as a chemical pregnancy. Absolutely heartbroken I had half given up, what were the chances we would fall pregnant again so soon after so long of nothing?

Well, here we are, after only 1 cycle later, pregnant again! Hopefully this time is different for us, it definetly feels different! Grin

I’ve only bought a couple bits that were in sales at work. Holding out until we’ve had a clear out so we’ve got space

We are having our attic converted as we speak so we can make more space for baby stuff! Can't wait to shift all my Christmas decorations and old photo albums into the attic so I can store all the baby items I like, plus we can get on with the nursery!!!

emzlyz · 30/07/2025 12:00

We have got a few hand me downs already from a family member who has a 1 year old, like a next to me, bouncer, carrier and boxes of clothes. Then I have bought some outfits on vinted, plus the handful of clothes I bought in my last pregnancy (ended in a late miscarriage). I told my husband I want to go test out prams soon so we know what we want and can keep an eye out for offers. Then once we have removed the current furniture from the nursery (going into our office which currently houses everything we are moving into the attic). Then we can start thinking about a cot and nursery furniture.

Pinkstuffs · 30/07/2025 14:10

This is my second boy and my first is only
15 months so we still have most things although I only saved 1 bag per size from when he was a baby. I am not planning to look or buy anything until at least 30 weeks as we have no space until our renovations are finished! I had an early anatomy scan with fetal medicine at 16 weeks so feeling slightly more relaxed about my 20 week scan next week.

chickengirls · 30/07/2025 14:20

Haven’t bought anything yet. I’m nearly 22 weeks. I always wait until a bit later for general anxiety reasons!! Have a few clothes stashed away from my others but don’t know what!

Poppypo · 30/07/2025 16:46

Hope you don’t mind me jumping on, can anyone take a guess at my 12 week scan? Will be finding out the 1st August at my 20 weeks scan. After having 2 girls already I really can't wait to find out what we're having 😊

Pinkstuffs · 30/07/2025 20:11

@Poppypo i think it looks like a little girl to be honest but im not really an expert. I have a son and pregnant with another and it’s been very obvious from their scan pictures that they’re boys!

Poppypo · 31/07/2025 16:51

@Pinkstuffs ohh really only a couple of people have said a boy like everyone else has said girl, my girls scan photos look totally different to this one so think I've just had it in my head that it's a boy lol unless that's just wishful thinking 😊

CheeryPombear · 01/08/2025 16:51

Hi all, hope you're well.

We had our 20 week scan today. Little boy was covering his head and face and wouldn't stay still enough for a heart check. Legs, stomach and spine all look fine.

I'm starting to feel less anxious but still can't feel movements. Back on 20th for another scan.

Little frustrated as we also didn't get photos but he's moving and looking healthy from what we saw.

Mama09876 · 02/08/2025 20:23

@CheeryPombear same happened to us! Back in 2 weeks as couldn’t get clear view of the spine, everything else all good! Luckily they just gave us the scan photos cause I forgot to ask 🙈

emzlyz · 04/08/2025 08:17

I have my 20 week scan on Wednesday. Hoping we can find out the gender. We are not able to have a private scan as the ones I trust won't scan us due to having hospital scans every 2 weeks. So fingers crossed, this baby behaves! Just booked baby's first holiday as well. We are going to Iceland in March for my dads birthday. Already spending hours researching prams and baby friendly activities.

Poppypo · 04/08/2025 11:22

I went for 20 week scan on Friday and the cord was in between baby legs so couldn't find out the gender, but if she had to guess she would say girl but not 100%. Don't no what to think? Is it most likely girl or could it be a boy and bits hiding behind cord? Anyone else had this

GlowWorm89 · 05/08/2025 20:32

Had my 20 week scan today. Found out we’re having a boy. 🩵
scan was good just could not get a conclusive view of the heart so will have to go back in few weeks time.
Also found out that my placenta is covering my cervix so if that will not move I’ll have to have a c-section.
hope all you mamas are doing well xxx

emzlyz · 07/08/2025 11:58

Had my 20 week scan yesterday. Started off great, got 2 measurements straightaway that she said are usually the hardest to get, but we couldn't get brain measurements because baby had head tucked into my pelvis. So we are going back in 2 weeks. We did find out the gender and now I am planning a gender reveal, nothing big, but I was thinking just a photo of my dog with some balloons. Then can send that to everyone.

@Poppypo I am sorry, I can't really give any advice on whether cord makes any difference, but could you book a private scan to confirm?

UNICORN1589 · 09/08/2025 23:13

Had 20 week scan yesterday and was such a relief. Really struggling to enjoy this time around (due to past experience) But after the scan yesterday I finally feel like I can enjoy. Sonographer was amazing, couldn't get a good view of the heart due to baby not keeping still or being in the correct position and didnt want me worrying and coming back in 2 weeks...so had me on my side, tilted backwards on the bed, star jumps...didnt work. So sent us for a walk and a fizzy drink and said come back and he would try again after the next appointment. This worked and he got the views he needed. All looked perfect. Also placenta is at the front, explains why movements feel so cushioned and hard to detect. Cant believe we are half way already!

@UNICORN1589 great news! Bubba looks good ❤️ seems there are a few of us back for 2nd scans. It's nerve-wracking isn't it! I was shaking so hard at our scan and the room was cold which didn't help.

I've also got an anterior placenta but in the last 1-2 weeks have really started to feel movement. It's quite low down, mainly on my left but he's found my bladder a few times and today it's felt like he's trying to push a foot out my vag. It's the only way I can describe it. Clearly likes to be moving and stretching a lot. My bump has gone pop. Before annual leave I looked a bit chunky but now it's a proper bump showing. Where did it come from!

Hope everyone is ok in this heat xx

Bit late to the party - we had our 20 week scan a few weeks ago (24 weeks now!) and luckily they covered everything in the one session, all looked healthy and we learned that we’re going to be having a little girl 🥹🩷

Don’t know when nesting kicks in for most but definitely already experiencing it, I’ve been amazed at my own ruthlessness when it comes to throwing stuff out (will be on first name terms at the tip the rate I’m going), I find myself declaring random storage / cupboards need to be organised like my baby’s life depends on it 😆

Wildwelshcob92 · 13/08/2025 10:54

We had our 20-week scan last week and everything looked great! The only hiccup was that our little girl was far too comfortable lying face-down, so we couldn’t get one particular picture of her heart. We tried all the moving around and wiggling, but she wasn’t having any of it 🤣 — so we’ll try again at our next scan.im also a anterior placenta but have felt her more this past week.

The biggest surprise was finding out we’re having a beautiful baby girl! We were pretty convinced it was going to be a boy 🤣 but honestly, we couldn’t be happier either way.

Because I’m high-risk I’ll get to see her again next week when we finish the last part of the scan and I have my uterine Doppler 🥰.

I did have a slight moment of panic last night when I realised we haven’t actually bought much yet — just a few cute babygrows here and there. I’d been holding off until after the 20-week scan. So this weekend, we’re getting started on the nursery, and I’m so excited 🥰.

we would love a 3d scan but everyone says different for what weeks are best to go, anyone help?

GlowWorm89 · 13/08/2025 14:10

Had our second 20 week scan yesterday as baby boy was not showing his heart and face. Was there for 3 hours yesterday. So grateful to the doctor who did my scan to preserve and get all the pictures needed. Lots of stairs and jumping to get to that point.
we haven’t bought anything yet. Got 2 small packets of wet wipes and in laws got a crib that belonged to my partner, out and cleaned. Haven’t even bought a mattress yet 🤣
Went to a larger Mamas and Papas 2 weeks ago and got very overwhelmed with everything available and what we need. Don’t even know where to start from 🫣
I hope everyone is doing ok with this heat wave from hell. Thank god the nights are still a bit cooler xxx

CheeryPombear · 13/08/2025 14:56

It suddenly feels very real doesn't it. I have an 8 weekly meeting at work and just said the next one is October which will be my last one! 😱

We have bought quite a lot already just because I like to be super organised but I'm also a nightmare that I have to unpack everything and check it all works/looks ok and then can't get it back in a box.

If you're around Burton on Trent there's a great shop called Bambinos and Beyond which is a lot cheaper than Mamas and Papas.

I think I've also started nesting, so much has gone to charity shops already. Now need to get a unit moved from baby boys room and get a wardrobe/chest of drawers.

GlowWorm89 · 13/08/2025 15:19

@CheeryPombearunfortunately that’s a bit too far. I’ve heard that there’s a good shop in Loughton east London. Also I find that the ukbabycenter.com is a good website. I know mamas and papas is so expensive. They have lovely stuff but definitely for a pretty pound.
I know I need to start but still feel a bit afraid to jinx it. Been wanting this for so long it still feels like a dream 🥹🥹🥹

Ronnie09 · 13/08/2025 17:11

Hi all, a bit late to the party but I’m 20 weeks having a little boy due 30th December🦋🩵 got a rescan next week as he wasn’t playing ball at all and still 5 things left to scan for !

What’s everyone doing about maternity leave? I was going to put my mat start date as the day before due then take hols for couple weeks before hand but dunno if it’s better to bring mat forward even just slightly. I’m getting very mixed opinions about the smarter move 🤯

how’s everyone managing in the heat? My wedding rings are off and I’ve had to loosen the straps on my sandals. What on earth do people wear on their feet, pregnant, swollen in winter !!? 🤣

lush to hear people are feeling movement, I’ve still felt nothing and placenta is at the back so I thought I would 😩 first baby though so I’m clueless!

CheeryPombear · 13/08/2025 19:37

@Ronnie09 I went from not knowing if I was feeling baby at 19/20 weeks to there's no doubt by mid 21 weeks. Also my first. I thought it was wind at first 😂

@GlowWorm89 they have an online store so you could look locally and order 😜

GlowWorm89 · 13/08/2025 20:08

@CheeryPombear ah that’s great. Thank you, I’ll have a look now ☺️
Been feeling flutters for few weeks now, I’m 21+ 1 today. Movements are getting stronger and more noticeable. Quite looking forward to feeling proper strong movements so dad to be could feel it as well.

emzlyz · 13/08/2025 21:34

@Ronnie09 I am high risk and will likely be induced early so my maternity leave will start at 37 weeks. But I've saved my annual leave so I'll be finishing work at 33 weeks. I know it's early but I work in a hospital and there's so many infections that time of year, I got a few last winter and want to avoid that if possible.

IcyLimeSwan · 13/08/2025 22:15

@emzlyz similar to you I’m going earlier - will finish at around 35 weeks. Was originally going to push to the end but would really like to have some personal ‘me’ time before the baby arrives. Even if she’s late I’m telling myself I’ll never have this equivalent time where I can focus just on me again, so it’s probably beneficial going off earlier. I’m lucky to have a good maternity stint ahead of me though, so felt I could make this decision to take some time ahead of her birth - realise it’s not quite this simple for everyone. Mind you, watch her now arrive early that I’ve settled on this logic 😅
