Hi!

Just thought i’d start a thread as I know a few of us have found out we are expecting! Would love to hear everyone’s stories to start us off as I know December feels soooo far away yet!

I’ll go first, I already have one child, he is 6 years old Smile Totally did not plan to have anymore once me and his dad split, I was one and done. However, years on met my current other half and I just knew straight away I had a change of heart. We started trying 18 months ago with negatives every month, later finding out there was infertility on both our sides. We moved in together January this year after deciding we would give IVF a try once we were settled in new GPs etc, only to find out we were pregnant! This came to an abrupt end 3 days later where we had what’s known as a chemical pregnancy. Absolutely heartbroken I had half given up, what were the chances we would fall pregnant again so soon after so long of nothing?

Well, here we are, after only 1 cycle later, pregnant again! Hopefully this time is different for us, it definetly feels different! Grin

@Bluebanana414 I think we may be due date twins ☺️ (maybe a day out!) …I’ve told my boss fairly early on as we have a very good working rship and they have been nothing but supportive, it has made it easier as it feels like a very large secret to carry when you’re feeling off your game. Likely to tell team in next couple of weeks as it’s getting difficult to hide - my wardrobe choices have been creative in the last 3 weeks 🙃

@Alexm06 congratulations to you! Nausea / general food distain stopped for me at around 10-11 weeks, fatigue that was enough to bed bound me started to fade at 13-14 weeks. Picking up new symptoms now like constipation and lower back pain which is glamourous.

Has anyone experienced “quickening” yet? I know it’s very early but I’ve noticed it on occasion just in this last few days… it’s an odd sensation!

LemonMermaid · 20/06/2025 22:33

@IcyLimeSwanthis is my second pregnancy & I am pretty sure I felt something the other day. Ain’t going to get too caught up on it yet as still early even for second pregnancy

IcyLimeSwan · 21/06/2025 05:29

@LemonMermaid thats fair, I expect nothing consistent until later down the track. This is my first so it was more of a surprise when it happened as I’ve never experienced the feeling before

Bluebanana414 · 21/06/2025 08:13

Ahh thanks all- I will tell my manager next week I think. Ridiculously nervous even though we have a great relationship - so silly, just overthinking it I think - definitely beginning to show now so only a matter of time 😂

@IcyLimeSwan oh yay, hi! My 20 week scan is 17 July, guessing yours must be somewhere near then also?

So weird you mention quickening (which I did need to google) but I think I could have felt this yesterday? Although, l had just had a big burger and chips so may have been that, but the only way I could describe it is like a muscle twitch!

Hope everyone is doing OK in this heat, it's soooo warm x

UNICORN1589 · 27/06/2025 23:41

Hope everyone is doing ok. We found out the gender this week...to my shock , its a girl! So will have 2 💙💙 and 2 💖💖. We have never found out with the others but with a big age gap, 17, 11 and 9 they wanted to find out so did it for them and im glad we did. Now thinking of names which is so hard! Anyone else finding out the gender?

TTCK8 · 28/06/2025 07:07

@UNICORN1589 ah how lovely! We are finding out the gender tomorrow and I can’t wait 👏!!! It’s our first so not bothered either way! But also finding names so hard - we can’t agree on any 🤣

GlowWorm89 · 28/06/2025 07:21

@UNICORN1589and @TTCK8were finding out baby’s gender on the 5th of August, it’s our first and keep going back and forth do we want to find out or not. Finding names is hard, looking for a name for your child you’ll realise how many people you don’t like 🫣 it’s also a bit more hard for us as his English and I’m Estonian. My parents don’t speak English and his parents don’t speak Estonian so need a name that’s easy to pronounce in both languages 🧐 xxx

CheeryPombear · 28/06/2025 09:54

At our 12 week then sonographer thought it was a boy but I didn't want to find out, she just blurted it. Now have to wait to 20 weeks to find out. I think girls names are much easier than boys.

How's everyone doing with symptoms? I'm now 15 weeks and still feel awful. Spent most of yesterday afternoon projectile vomiting on top of a migraine. Phoned the number in my midwife pack who said we didn't meet criteria to be seen & likely a migraine and to phone the GP, we didn't bother as it was gone 3pm they're as much use as a chocolate fireguard. I phoned last week for ongoing sickness to get some cyclizine and they said I could have an appointment in 3 weeks. It wasn't until I brought up ongoing local maternity care reviews that they relented and I got a call back. I feel totally fobbed off by everyone.
I keep getting told that symptoms settle by 12 weeks, I feel awful. I'm exhausted, I'm struggling to eat anything at any time, I've got terrible heartburn and sickness and just feel washed out. I was so excited to be pregnant but I don't think this will happen again. My body clearly doesn't like it!

Hope everyone else is doing ok?

AnonKat · 28/06/2025 10:30

Had a private scan yesterday and found out im having a boy! Honestly one of my best memories, watching baby suck his thumb and kick his legs.

My 12 week scan was dissappointing, as it was soo quick. But this was a amazing.

LemonMermaid · 28/06/2025 10:32

@UNICORN1589@TTCK8@GlowWorm89
my 20 week scan is on the 4th August & I am finding out the gender this time. This is my second pregency & I didn’t find out with my first. Wanted the surprise but this time we are finding out for our daughter. Told her last week she was going to be a big sister & she is super excited but is positive it’s a girl 🤦🏻‍♀️ she’s named the baby & doesn’t seem to comprehend it could be a boy 😂 so if we find out & tell her & it is a boy she has time to get used to the idea.

@CheeryPombear unfortunately I can’t comment on the sickness but I do still feel completely drained. I am yawning all day & sleeping a lot. Keep getting told that will go & i will be full of energy soon. I just can’t see it. I am trying to get on as normal & so far succeeding, but not sure for how long.

GlowWorm89 · 28/06/2025 10:54

@CheeryPombearim sorry to hear you’re having such a bad experience. I’m 14 weeks and 4 days and symptoms I’m having are I’m still tired. Just travelling back from a 2 week holiday and I’ve had a nap every day sleeping 1,5-2 hrs and still knackered by bed time. Also I find I’m out of breath a lot quicker. Hunger is starting to sett in. I use to have “breakfast” around 10am (I wake up 5am for work) now food is the first thing I think of when I wake up 😂 and I’m thirsty all the time .
old wives tales say that the harder the pregnancy it’s a girl and easier it is, means it’s a boy. Would be interesting to see if that is correct in our case.
I do have to say not having symptoms as such makes you paranoid if everything is ok with the baby.

IcyLimeSwan · 28/06/2025 11:23

@AnonKat @UNICORN1589 how lovely - such wonderful news and congratulations to you both 🩷🩵

@TTCK8 @GlowWorm89 @LemonMermaid we find out on July 17th - at this point we have a decision if it’s a boy, but if it’s a girl we’re into multiple options and can’t seem to agree on the same things, I like more modern and the other half is transpiring to be more traditional… we also have the same issue where certain names remind you of people and even if you like the person, it can feel like their name / personality would be taken! A strange phenomenon 😂

@Bluebanana414 on the above apologies as I meant to respond! Our scan dates look like we must indeed have the same due date ☺️

@CheeryPombear sorry to hear you’re still not feeling so great - really feeling for you. It’s not nice to feel fobbed off either. I drink milk for the heartburn, could that help? Although I appreciate if you’re not feeling like you can eat much this might not work for you. Here if you need to vent, hopefully they will be able to get you sorted at your next appointment - your voice deserves to be heard though so don’t feel bad for pressing, if you feel like you need to be seen sooner then you know your body and they should respect that. Are you taking prenatal vitamins? I’ve heard of people switching brands and finding that helps. Sorry I can’t be more help - hugs for you as I can imagine it’s feeling a bit relentless! ❤️

emzlyz · 28/06/2025 11:41

@CheeryPombear I'm 14 weeks and still nauseous amd tired. Had a headache for the last week too. Keep hoping the symptoms will ease but haven’t done yet.

We're high risk so having scans every 2 weeks (ish). Next is at 16 weeks and I'm hoping they will tell me the gender. An NHS sonographer told me at 16 weeks last time (she felt sorry for me because my private gender scan revealed my waters had gone and they hadn't been able to tell us the gender).

CheeryPombear · 28/06/2025 14:12

Thank you everyone.

I'm trying to eat when I can and take vitamins when I can. If it doesn't settle in a few days I'll try the EPU again and see if they will see me. I feel so bad for moaning when we've wanted this for so long and spent so much on it but jeez pregnancy is hard work! No-one tells you this do they, you just hear all the good parts.

Today has been better than yesterday so taking that as a win and I've not got a paddling pool to keep cool.

Mama09876 · 01/07/2025 09:39

Has anyone had their 16 week appointment & heard the heat beat? I’m interested to see if the myth is true with lower rates for boys and higher for girls. It was true for my first and I’m not finding out again but love the guessing 😂

had mine today with average 148bpm, so guessing another girl 😬

GlowWorm89 · 01/07/2025 09:47

@Mama09876for some reason my 16 week appointment is a phone appointment 🧐 my next scan will be my 20 week scan.
at our 12 week scan baby’s heart beats where 153 so recon a girl as well but I’m still convinced it’s a boy as so far thankfully have had a very easy pregnancy. No real mood swings, nausea was/is minimal, skin hasn’t had any breakouts… so let’s see

Mama09876 · 01/07/2025 10:20

@GlowWorm89 aww that’s a shame it’s by phone? I wonder if different areas do different things at 16 weeks.

All those symptoms sounds exactly the same as me and similar to my first very easy pregnancy (and birth) and I had a girl and I’m thinking girl again as so similar! But we’ll see 🥰

emzlyz · 01/07/2025 12:22

@Mama09876 My last pregnancy baby's heartbeat was always high and I had a girl. My NHS trust don't routinely listen to heartbeats at midwife appointments.

emzlyz · 01/07/2025 12:31

Anyone else struggling with shortness of breath when walking? I live in Yorkshire and its so hilly, we have a labrador that needs walking so we have been doing our usual walk but I am really struggling. Especially in this heat. I feel so unfit, pre-pregnancy I was running (well partway through couch to 5k for the millionth time) and working out regularly, as well as daily dog walks. Now I struggle with our 1 walk a day. I feel so unfit. I was signed up for tough mudder next month but made the decision it wasn't worth the risk of infection, but now I know I couldn't do it physically. Don't get me wrong, I am not that fit, even pre-pregnancy my BMI was just over 30, but I am fed up of struggling to walk up hills that I was once running up. I have gained 7.5lb but I had lost weight pre-pregnancy so I can't see the weight having that much of an issue. Yesterday I was tempted to flag down a tractor for a lift up the hill to my house.

GlowWorm89 · 01/07/2025 13:47

@emzlyz thought I was the only one. Stairs and general walking feels like I’ve ran a marathon. Same always been a big girl but fit. Never struggled like this before. And the heat is definitely not helping

IcyLimeSwan · 01/07/2025 15:33

@Mama09876 heard the heartbeat at mine - I’m clearly a rookie with this stuff as I had no idea she was going to check and when I heard it, I was so surprised I burst into tears 🥹 . Baby was 147bpm so the theory would say girl but I
keep thinking it’s a boy (with no rationale as to why 😂)

How’s everyone faring in the heat? Last night I managed 3hrs sleep thanks to overheating and preggo insomnia 😳

@GlowWorm89 @emzlyz deffo finding I'm getting more breathless, have noticed that I’m moving more slowly when I’m walking too!

LemonMermaid · 01/07/2025 15:37

@GlowWorm89@emzlyzI am definitely slower than I was. I work at Tesco as a shift leader so on my feet all day & I have noticed my work rate dropping. Luckily my manager is extremely good with me & understanding.

CheeryPombear · 01/07/2025 16:46

@emzlyz I'm a 5k runner (also done C25K around 300000 times 😂) and I feel so unfit and heavy at the moment despite actually losing weight (I will let the midwife know!).

I don't know if my appointment next week will listen to HR. It's in a children's centre not a GP or Hospital so don't know if they have a portable Doppler.

GlowWorm89 · 02/07/2025 16:47

Hows everyone’s hay fever? I have suffered with a bad hay fever for most of my life. Before getting pregnant I would have days where I had to take 2 Allevia tablets and then still might have ended indoors. Currently I’m trying to cope with 1 tablet of Piriton a day and I’m not well. My nose is red and sore from all the sneezing and blowing my nose. My eyes are constantly itchy and so on. Does any of you have any home remedies that could help that are safe for pregnancy. I’m already using Vaseline on my nose but that doesn’t seem to do anything either. I’m sorry for the long rant, I really hoped that with a bit of rain today I’d feel better but no 😑😩

McNicola · 10/07/2025 20:46

Yaaay glad to find a December 2025 thread going! Currently 18 weeks pregnant with our rainbow baby, due 11th December - I have a son who turns 4 next week, and we had two MCs last year so feeling very anxious this pregnancy but slowly getting more excited 😊 nub theory people reckons there's a 90% chance it's a girl but we'll find out for sure at our 20 week scan in a couple of weeks. I think I've started feeling movement but still in the awkward stage where it could just be gas 🤣 hope everyone is coping okay in this heat, I chucked on a swimming cossie after work today and slithered into my son's paddling pool for 30 mins to cool off!!
