Hi!

Just thought i’d start a thread as I know a few of us have found out we are expecting! Would love to hear everyone’s stories to start us off as I know December feels soooo far away yet!

I’ll go first, I already have one child, he is 6 years old Smile Totally did not plan to have anymore once me and his dad split, I was one and done. However, years on met my current other half and I just knew straight away I had a change of heart. We started trying 18 months ago with negatives every month, later finding out there was infertility on both our sides. We moved in together January this year after deciding we would give IVF a try once we were settled in new GPs etc, only to find out we were pregnant! This came to an abrupt end 3 days later where we had what’s known as a chemical pregnancy. Absolutely heartbroken I had half given up, what were the chances we would fall pregnant again so soon after so long of nothing?

Well, here we are, after only 1 cycle later, pregnant again! Hopefully this time is different for us, it definetly feels different! Grin

@CheeryPombear I felt the same before my last scan. I felt nauseous anyway (as I have a majority of the time so far!) but I think the sonographer double took when I came through as I looked so stressed and sick about it. I told her I was very anxious and she was lovely, pointed out the heartbeat the second she saw it. It turned out my 12 weeks scan was actually a 10 week scan so I'm back on Friday for my proper 12 week scan and screening and as it gets closer I'm getting nervous again, but not as bad as I was before the last one so far.

I know a positive scan 2 weeks ago doesn't guarantee a positive scan again, but I seem to be in a headspace where I feel okay with allowing myself to be hopeful. I have anxiety and OCD (and had to come off all my meds when I learned I was pregnant) so I think that also took a while to settle down but my therapist suggested that I think about how I would like to feel during my pregnancy - maybe imagine a good outcome and a bad outcome.

The reality was that I would want to enjoy the moments being pregnant as much as I could, even imagining the bad outcome. That's a bit of an oversimplification but it has helped me to reframe it I think - when I get into a Google hole I can think to myself 'do I really need to suffer twice/agonise in advance if something does go wrong'? And the answer is no. But distracting myself is easier said than done!

That's great you've got a day off work. Have you thought about how you might like to spend your time before your appointment? And something calming you would want to do afterwards, no matter how it goes? I decided I would go for brunch with a family member (but I knew I could cancel if I ended up not feeling like it!). Sending good luck 🍀

Hi @CheeryPombear i have my scan on Monday and feel the same as you, I think it’s normal!

CheeryPombear · 11/06/2025 12:20

Thanks @PearlSimmon and @Pinkstuffs. I've got a few bits to catch up on around the house in the morning, scan is 2.30 so Mr Pombear is finishing work early and will come with me. I think we will go out for dinner afterwards.

It's so hard to be positive after loss. I'm waiting for counselling, I've struggled with depression and anxiety for years and came off meds for IVF. I honestly thought IVF would never work for us and had kind of resigned myself to the last cycle and done and then bam, pregnant, then an SCH with bleeding. It's been a rollercoaster and it's got me on edge. I think I'm still very shocked by it all.

emzlyz · 11/06/2025 16:17

I have my 12 week scan on Monday. We had a 7 week scan on EPU that was fine. I'm so nervous for Mondays scan.

We had an 18 week loss in January and I just want this pregnancy to work out. I also had a chemical pregnancy a year ago so this is my 3rd pregnancy in a year. I just want to get to full term with a healthy, earthside baby!

KT199 · 12/06/2025 07:34

Good luck today @CheeryPombear! Hope all goes well. We still have a WhatsApp group going yeah 😊

CheeryPombear · 12/06/2025 20:52

Baby Pombear is measuring a day ahead (last scan was 5 behind) and is looking very healthy. Struggled to get good scan pics as it was facing us then turned around and shoved it's bum up! Very active and wiggly.

I had a panic attack when I first went in and had to stand outside, the team were lovely and got me in quick but then my bladder wasn't full enough so got sent back out. Waited nearly 2 hours afterwards for the Consultant which was nerve-wracking but all good. My SCH remains but is now smaller than baby and they are not concerned.

Sending love to you all xxx

Hello everyone, I am currently 12 weeks and have a scan on Monday. The past three or four days however my nausea and fatigue has become much worse, I am struggling to get out of bed and go to work or look after my toddler. Is anyone experiencing the same? My last pregnancy I did not experience any nausea so it feels very different. X

Mine got worse after 12 weeks. Im nearly 15 weeks now and its starting to calm down with cyclizine.

Pinkstuffs · 15/06/2025 10:46

@Daisychains9 I’m 12 weeks too and also have my scan tomorrow! My sickness is still awful, although I think the fatigue is a bit more manageable. In the evenings especially I can’t keep any food down. In my last pregnancy I was sick but it eased by 11 weeks so I’m hoping it goes soon!

IcyLimeSwan · 15/06/2025 13:13

Hi everyone, new here - hope it’s okay if I tag on to the December babies chat, I’m due 2nd Dec so 15w5d today… it’ll be my first child, safe to say I get swings between elation and anxiety. Started out with terrible nausea and fatigue but it dropped off at 10w and I’m feeling pretty symptomless of recent.

Anyone else feel a bit like the gap between 12wk and 20wk scan is a time drag? I have had a NIPT outcome confirmed, private scan at 14wks all looking good and heard heartbeat at 15wk midwife appt, but now staring at the whole month I have remaining before my 20wk scan and feeling a bit like time is standing still / wondering how the heck this time will even pass by!

CheeryPombear · 15/06/2025 13:36

@Daisychains9 yes! My symptoms dropped at about week 9 and now back with a vengeance at 13.

@IcyLimeSwan I found the time between my 1st scan to confirm I was pregnant (6+6) to Thursday (13+5) a huge drag. I'm hoping the next few weeks will go really quick.

Pinkstuffs · 16/06/2025 05:53

Good luck to everyone that has a scan today - I’m sure there are a few of us!

emzlyz · 16/06/2025 14:01

Our scan went perfectly 😍 measuring 1 day ahead of what I thought I was, and 5 days ahead of what our EPU scan said at 7 weeks. Just waiting on NIPT results and we see the consultant next week as we're high risk consultant led due to a previous 2nd trimester loss. Praying this pregnancy goes smoothly

My scan was fine too, I am due a day later than from my LMP which makes sense to me from when I think I ovulated! I had my consultant appointment today due to a prev small baby but will just be having extra scans. Also have a csection booked for 30th December!

LemonMermaid · 16/06/2025 14:26

Hi everyone not posted for a while just got back from Cyprus this morning. My sickness seems to have disappeared & I’ve got my appetite back which made the holiday so much more enjoyable. The heat and my fatigue wiped me out most days though. Got my scan on Wednesday which I am soooo excited & a tiny bit nervous. Not too sure why I ain’t super nervous. Think it’s because it’s my second pregnancy & know what to expect. How is everyone feelin? Loving seeing all the scan photos coming in xx

IcyLimeSwan · 18/06/2025 03:55

Pinkstuffs · 16/06/2025 05:53

Good luck to everyone that has a scan today - I’m sure there are a few of us!

@LemonMermaid this reads like me a few weeks ago - went on hols and fortunately my sickness / appetite sorted itself out just in time to ensure it was enjoyable! Hope you had a well rested break and I hope scan goes okay - I had so much nervous energy at ours that I couldn’t stop fidgeting while sat in the hospital wait room 😂 I think it was that sense of bracing for the unknown so if this is your second I can definitely see why you’d feel more relaxed!

Been feeling pretty good now I’m in 2nd trimester, it’s been like night and day compared to the 1st (where frankly I don’t know how I functioned as a full time working adult - kudos to everyone who manages households, jobs AND other small children during this time). Just tackling some preggo insomnia which I’m trying to view as sleep deprivation training, dread a 3am wake up at the mo as it generally means I’m awake for the day.

How’s it going your side?

@emzlyz @Pinkstuffs pleased for you both that your scans went well x

@CheeryPombear I feel like I’m counting the weekends to the next scan! Latest tact is to plan in some things to look forward to / distract me - my partner keeps joking that it’s clear I’m trying to whittle away the time because I’ve suddenly launched into the next decorating project 😬 if I can’t sit patiently through the next few weeks I will paint / re-organise / de-clutter my way towards it! The baby must be in there thinking what the hell is she up to now 😂

Bluebanana414 · 18/06/2025 08:54

Hey all 😊 congrats to everyone getting through the scans, loving the pics!
I'm 16w 1d today, symptoms all gone apart from achey boobs really. Had the scan, then a two week holiday, so only just starting telling family, which has made it feel more real now.

Also loving my new found energy, now I look back that first trimester fatigue is like nothing I've ever been through before!!

Quick Q, when are you telling your manager? I know you don't have to until 25 weeks but I am starting to show now so doubt I'll be able to hide it til then. I was also told you are much more protected as soon as you tell them...so just trying to figure out the order of events!

So lovely to keep up to date with you all x

CheeryPombear · 18/06/2025 12:22

@Bluebanana414 I've told mine already as I'm a nurse so have to be really careful but we also had IVF so she already knew it was a possibility. We've not done my risk assessments or paperwork yet as wanted to get past week 12.

LemonMermaid · 18/06/2025 12:27

@Bluebanana414I told mine at about 9 weeks as I am a shift leader at Tesco so do a lot of shifting, pulling & pushing. So thought it was best to say something early. Only a hand full of people know at the moment. Now I’ve had my scan I’m going to tell my daughter & then make it public.

It is upto you when you tell your manager but I think the earlier the better as they can put things in place for you. Plus you are entitled to all your appointments off

emzlyz · 19/06/2025 12:14

@Bluebanana414 I told my manager at about 7 weeks because I was really ill. We've done my risk assessment because I do sometimes work alone, have some moving and handling involved in my role and I'm high risk this pregnancy. Also means I can take paid time off for my appointments

Alexm06 · 19/06/2025 19:08

Hey all! Hope you don’t mind me joining. I’ve previously had 3 miscarriages with ivf so after this round when I got pregnant I held off until the 12 week scan to get excited! Well that day was today!! It still feels soo crazy that I’ve actually made it to 12 weeks!
can I ask when symptoms started to fade? I feel mine fading but my no appetite for anything is bugging me haha. I just want to eat something and enjoy it!

UNICORN1589 · 19/06/2025 22:14

@Alexm06 congratulations. My symptoms eased off at 11-12weeks. But tonight has come back strong, dont know if its anything to do with the head here, its soon hot and I feel so sick. Also had my 12 weeks scan on Tuesday and it was so amazing to see baby doing summersaults in there after a MC in 2023 and bad experiences with previous pregnancy in 2016. Hence the big gaps. Feel like I want to go on a shopping spree but holding myself back still.

CheeryPombear · 20/06/2025 05:33

@Alexm06 awesome news. Congratulations from a fellow IVFer. @UNICORN1589 great to hear your scan went well too.

It's starting to feel real for so many of us!

Alexm06 · 20/06/2025 18:38

@UNICORN1589its strange how they come and go isn’t it. But this no appetite one is just around constantly haha. Oh amazing!! I’m glad it went well too! Did you do the blood tests after? Yeah mine did a massive jump which was crazy to see. Yeah I get that my friend brought me an outfit yesterday as like a congratulations but that’s all we have haha.

@CheeryPombearthank you!! Ohh another IVFer!! I feel like it’s just a crazy rollercoaster followed by another crazy rollercoaster if all goes well haha

CheeryPombear · 20/06/2025 19:47

@Alexm06 absolutely. It's been a ride & half for us. 10 years to get to this point.
