@Frenchtoastie absolutely take the meds! I was on cyclizine in my first and third trimesters with my daughter, no issues. It reduced my vomiting to a couple of times a day which I did think was as good as it could get so didn't go back for alternative meds. I didn't gain enough weight in pregnancy and was back at my prepregnancy weight by day 10 and then lost another 1.5 stone due to severe pnd and breastfeeding an allergy baby on a very restricted diet. I ended up quite poorly with it. All my reserves had been used up in pregnancy and I didn't have any left to get through the 4th trimester.

I had a miscarriage in July and in that pregnancy I was on cyclizine and prochlorpreazine and they helped somewhat but didn't control the sickness enough and I had a fall when dizzy and ended up in a and E with a sprained ankle. I lost 8lb in 6 weeks. (Zero suggestions that the meds or the sickness had any role in the miscarriage btw just one of those things)

This time around my GP has stepped me straight up to the second line of treatment and I'm on cyclizine and metoclopramide. I was sick 5 times in the GP surgery! I've only been in them a few days but I'm able to drink better than I was. I'm feeling weaker earlier than previous but I didn't regain weight from the unsuccessful pregnancy.

It can feel like taking meds is risky but sometimes there are consequences for not taking meds too. Cyclizine is completely safe in pregnancy lots of women take it every day. It is the first line of treatment and doesn't work for everybody and others need alternative meds

Thankyou @Superscientist bless you you sound like you’ve been through the mill

Superscientist · 27/11/2024 20:05

@Frenchtoastie unsurprisingly my daughter was 3 before we could even think about trying again and we are currently looking at a 5 year age gap! 😂

Frenchtoastie · 27/11/2024 21:47

I don’t blame you! I can’t imagine going through this again.

does anyone else feel ill almost constantly? I don’t know if this is normal, I feel shivery, my skin is blotchy I feel poisoned and nauseaous, is this just first trimester joys??

Thetravellover · 27/11/2024 22:31

Advice for nausea?
Im just over 6 weeks and the sickness has just kicked in and it’s horrible! I haven’t actually been sick (yet) thank goodness but I feel nauseous ALL DAY so please suggest some natural remedies!
I’m meant to be seeing family this weekend and no idea how I’m going to feel ok for it, not telling anyone until 12 weeks
thanks 🙏🏼

For those that have been suffering with colds, how have you been getting through them? I'm absolutely loaded with one now and feel so miserable. Can't breathe and can't use my usual go to sudefed nasal spray 😭

I chuck olbas oil on everything - in a diffuser, on my pillow, on a tissue! Some people hate the stuff but I love it. And paracetamol.

MrsS11 · 28/11/2024 07:14

@Hoppityhophops another geriatric here at 37 😅 it wasn't the plan but here we are. @Thetravellover everyone is different but I find eating little and often helps (Lidls salted rice crisps things seem to hit the spot) especially right before bed and if I'm up in the night. The biggest thing for me is sleep, I'm so much more nauseous when I'm sleep deprived but between toddlers and pregnancy insomnia that one is harder to control 🫠 I'm not feeling horrendous yet but I know my nausea peaks around week 10 which I'm pretty sure is Christmas!

Cookies123 · 28/11/2024 08:10

Has anyone experienced thrush in early pregnancy? I'm 6 weeks pregnant and I think I've got it

CatmumTTC · 28/11/2024 08:15

@Thetravellover I'm approaching 7 weeks and yes nausea really starting to ramp up. Find myself gagging morning and evening more than in the day. I think the morning nausea is related to having an empty stomach and the evening is fatigue related. I've started eating a packet of mini cheddars from my bed before I get up to try and line my stomach, washed down with a ginger tea.

Hoppityhophops · 28/11/2024 09:54

Cyclizine is the one. Takes the edge to the sickness right off. The downside though is it can make you feel tireder but personally I'll take that over feeling sick.

Yes, seven weeks here and feeling sick and having these moments of severe dizziness where I need to sit down most days. I don't remember feeling this way with my older child but that was almost eight years ago now so maybe I'd forgotten

LifeonMarss · 28/11/2024 10:56

Waiting to hear back form GP about sickness, I don't think it helps I get myself into a panic every time I'm sick. Just hoping they'll prescribe it to me over the phone as I can't move much atm without dry heaving due to nausea

Yeah, you’ll need to ring your GP. I got a 7 day course of pessaries. It’s more difficult to shift in pregnancy apparently.

Snugget · 28/11/2024 12:05

We got our blood test results back this morning and found out that it is a little girl 💕 I was so sure baby was going to be a boy, going by my symptoms (or lack of). Feeling a bit shocked but very happy 🥰 and looking forward to seeing her again at our dating scan next month.

Chewing gum!

CatmumTTC · 28/11/2024 13:37

Congratulations @Snugget! What service did you use? I'm tempted to test gender early so we can say over Christmas. Sneakpeak seem to do a blood test at home you can do .

Snugget · 28/11/2024 13:57

Thanks @CatmumTTC we used SneakPeek but had it done in the clinic along with our scan, the home test kits look good too.
I don't remember it being an option with my older two, I find it amazing that they can tell you so early now!

BroomAdventures · 28/11/2024 14:00

Eek! Congratulations @Snugget 🩷 I’m so tempted to have that test done. 16 weeks seems so far away!

@Snugget Congratulations!! That's lovely

Emj1993 · 28/11/2024 15:14

@Snugget - congrats that’s amazing! I’m so tempted to do one of these!

I had posted in this group last week and then haven’t had a chance to catch up until now, so congrats to everyone one who have had their early scans since then! 💕

This is my second baby and I am so worried this time - don’t know if it’s because I’m much more aware of this time round of things going wrong! I had really bad sore boobs and now the feeling has gone away which is worrying me, and the nausea comes and goes. Has anyone else had this happen? It’s so hard to not obsess over everything!

Hi guys, please can I join you lovely ladies? I've been lurking and reading everyone's updates, but been too afraid to post (like in some way it would jinx it!) I am currently 8+5. IVF pregnancy, and am nearly 36. Had a miscarriage last year so I am all kinds of nervous and scared. Had a scan on Tuesday and baby is doing well, but I've still not quite 'accepted' it yet. The woes of infertility and MC for you hey!

I just wanted to say congrats to everyone here and it's lovely to read how you're all getting on and positive scans. Good luck to those awaiting a repeat scan. It's a long wait between and days feel like months!

@Emj1993 my symptoms come and go - nausea seems to peak around 10am then subside when I eat my lunch. I've found my boobs don't hurt anymore, and find myself sat squeezing them -- husband looks odd at me / slightly aroused I think 😂I asked the clinic on Tuesday if it was common for symptoms to come and go and they said yes some days you can feel good, others feel like ass. Take the days you feel good as a win, however I heard her saying all this knowing full well I'll feel terrified when I have a 'less' day.

Congrats @Snugget !! Did you have the NIPT test?

And @Cookies123 I had it around 5 weeks, and the IVF clinic told me to use the external cream, and avoid the tablets and internal. And it cleared up in a few days 😊

Emj1993 · 28/11/2024 16:14

@GCS34 - Welcome to the group and congrats on your pregnancy! 😊

Thank you so much for your reply, you’ve reassured me! Your comment about squeezing your boobs made me laugh as I’m exactly the same! 😂 I’m only 5+1 currently so looking forward to getting more towards the 8 week stage like you as I think I’ll feel a bit better then!

I remember the first time round getting past the 12 week scan then feeling a bit more reassured as can totally understand your nerves. Not long until you’re there! 🫶🏼

Thanks for the warm welcome @Emj1993 🤗

Funny the things you find yourself doing isn't it? I find myself sniffing things too, seeing if I find them offensive or not. Not entirely sure what I get out of that one mind you!

Not long to go though until you are - will you have an early scan or you thugging it out until the 12 week scan? I've had 3 already due to IVF, and I do find it helps (if only for that moment in time, but still).

Awww thank you! Congrats on your second baby - that's really exciting and a lovely sibling for #1! I am going to have a 10 week scan (week on Saturday) and if that goes okay, maybe I'll believe it a little more.

Question - I have my first midwife appointment next week (I didn't get this far last time). What do I expect? Is it just a lot of quesitons and bloods? Scans and fertility I'm an expert at, this part is totally new to me and feeling a bit rabbit-in-headlights!

Nomnomnew · 28/11/2024 16:56

Congratulations @GCS34 and welcome! I have my first appointment next week too. It’s just a long appointment with lots of questions about health and medical background, and some social stuff like family support and how your partner is. And yes some blood tests and blood pressure etc. It’s a good opportunity to ask any questions though as there’s plenty of time for the appointment (for once!)

Thanks @Nomnomnew and congrats to you too! You must be a similar gestation to me then. What day is your midwife appointment next week and what will you be at it?
Thanks for the heads up on what to expect! I have to fill out a pre-appointment questionnaire that asks me everything under the sun - I am expecting to have to answer colour pants based on some of the questions I've read so far! Is this a second pregnancy for you as you have been to one of these before? Do you have your 12 week scan already booked, or do they do it at the appointment?
